JAKE!

He's the one I would starve and drop to the bench.

I think Olakauatu is a great up and coming player, but he is a big problem defencively.
That edge defencive combo with dce/guac/harper was extremely problematic. Almost all the roosters points came from exploiting the lack of urgency and communication between those three.

Foran's edge on the other hand was working together and urgent.

Attack was a whole other issue, although I admit guac was strong with his runs at times. Still not involved enough to get much credit.
I don't understand defensive systems at all, but I'd love to know where the issue starts to leave the right side so horribly exposed so often.

Fox Sports has
Paseka 121m
Olakau'atu 116m
Walker 95m
Davey 74m
Taupau 67m
Jake 48m
Keppie 43m
Bullemor 30m

Paseka was pretty good apart from two stone cold drop balls.
Why is everyone ripping Paseka then?

Also, I "hate" these feel good threads after yet another pounding.

Yeah Ola's awesome, pity he has to defend next time Harper, poor bugger was gassed in that first half and the Rooters just ran through that edge.
Not going to argue against the Mole-man: he's our best forward by a long, long margin. But I'm not 100% sure that Harper is the issue on that side of our defence. I think the problems start with Cherry being anything but a steadying influence on that side. He plays one man in from Harper and I'm sure it's his indecisiveness in defence - rushing out of the the line, losing track of his man, failing to number up - that makes life so difficult for Harper and Saab. We have huge issues on that defensive side. Seems like every coach in the NRL can see it, with the possible exception of one Desmond Hasler.

Agreed re DCE, it definitely doesn't look like a solid defensive line.

Bullemor was on for 80 minutes and 30 metres? I'm not sure we should be looking at Paseka here guys.
Yeah, I've been pretty unimpressed with his contributions so far. How unimpressed? So unimpressed that I reckon we'd do better with Morgan Boyle in there. Although if Davey managed to get through unscathed I reckon he's shown enough to grab the spot.

Those drop balls were pretty costly when we were building or trying to build pressure. But I'm sure the coaching staff will realise that he was otherwise one of our best on ground.

Most threads after a loss are just populated with a lot of people riffing on themes like: we are too slow, we need to fire the whole squad, we are destined for the wooden spoon... so threads like this provide some balance and hopefully some reasoned discussion...

NRL has him playing 32 minutes. But yes he has been underwhelming so far...

Paseka dropped the ball a few times, that's why some are ripping into him.

Personally I prefer these threads after another such pounding. Sometimes, I find the negativity can be a too personal (re players and between posters) and it affects my enjoyment of the discussions here.

I also like to try and keep perspective. With plenty of terrible things going on in the world at the moment, things could be much worse than Manly really sucking the first 2 rounds. But hey, maybe I just am not as 'passionate' as some...

Why so angry?

I thought overall we were poor, no cohesion, never gained superiority in the ruck, poor line speed, overall a bit of a shocker.

Now I can kick stones and ruin my weekend ranting about who we should sack yada yada or I can say we were terrible, need to improve but thought Olakau'atu looked good and Walker and Paseka showed something.

I take the later but each to their own

No anger mate. It was said with more resignation than anything. Sigh-worthy (but not anger).
The frustrating thing is we aren't learning or improving. We are repeating our same mistakes. Over and over and over. Defensively we are swiss cheese with around 36-40 points against on average in the past 5 games now.

Not at the game, your "hate" of a thread after a loss comending one player and saying two were okay.

There will always be negatives after big wins and always positives after big losses

Okay, maybe should have said....dunno...don't prefer, or dislike. I was just typing quickly

We've shown we have all the tools to be a very good footy team, we just have to put it together.

Personally I think whilst many are pulling for the drastic silver bullet (ie drop x and y and promote q and z) I think its just a range of little areas we need a little improvement.

Dessie included. I cant remember the last game I saw us come in with a specific plan like Penrith kicking high to Saab and nailing him to stunt our set starts.

I agree there is no silver bullet. Schuster will make a difference, but replacing Harper with Koula, Croker with Lawton and one of the props for Tuitavake (which I want to see, personally) will not change the outcome of the last 2 games one bit.

It's pretty clear to me that we have a system issue. Without getting too technical/philosophical, have you ever heard of the 94% rule? I read about it a few weeks ago, and the theory goes something like 94% of the results we experience in the workplace, both good or poor, are a function of the systems and processes in which people work, not the efforts of people. The easy path is to focus on the 6% but in reality it's the system that is likely the problem. That is no doubt what Des and the coaching staff, as well as the players, will be focusing on.
