The Haumole Bible.

My guess is that Des will pick Siro to start, Haumole to the bench and Sipley to miss out.

Siro cops a bit of a bad wrap on this forum, we have a good record when he plays and he’s battled injuries for the last 12 months. If he’s fit he is a very good edge backrower.
Yep the If he is fit is the key. Hasn't been for awhile now and credit to him for battling on last year. For me he has peaked as a player and I dont see him getting better from this point onwards in his career. Oh that and the fact he doesn't pass to his centre 🙂

Has anyone seen Haumole pass it to his centre?

Last time I checked, forwards are supposed to run hard and tackle hard. Very few ball-play. Felise kaufusi, Tariq simms, kikau, cordner, su'a, matterson, etc etc don't pass to their centre (unless there is a definite overlap). Siro cops a lot of **** here for not ball-playing? I think the issue is the lines he runs
Sirros lines are a problem. Up and in defences are used to corral players back into the middle . Not only does sirro do this voluntarily , his line takes the outside pass option off the table, regardless of his intention to throw it or not , making himself and the movement a pretty easy target in the middle

This results in stacks on , and a slow play the ball also compounding it

Totally agree. His persistent choice, regardless of what's in front of him, to continually cut back was badly hindering our right side attack. For mine, put him in the middle, or let him go unfortunately. Great bloke, does a lot of good things on the field, but no longer dynamic enough on our edges, and far too injury prone to be holding up the development of some of our young guns. Guac is the future, and now Keppie apparently our new weapon on an edge! Plus Schu and Davey, and even Lawton? That's not even including guys like Tuitavake, and S.Fainu, who are incredibly mobile. Sorry Siro

It’s funny how we criticise edge forwards for not passing to centres when that’s not their role.

centres catch colds when teams aren’t going great and halves are having trouble getting into the game. The only time a backrower should pass to a centre is when there is a clear overlap, otherwise it’s just passing the problem off to someone else. Their role is to run lines and make yards, not distribute the ball. Halves usually cut the backrower out when there is clear space on the outside anyway.

we can look to Gifty as anecdotal evidence of a ball playing edge forward but (a) he played years ago so different game (b) he usually passed off to a half so was playing the link role that Jake already plays for us and (c) he was the exception, not the rule. There aren’t many like him.

Thank you Snake....refreshing to read some common sense

you are right
sirro cops a lot of flak for not passing to deter the attention away from DCE for not passing.
that side was dead set pedestrian and no way was this forum making it the halfbacks issue so it has been serving up the sirro sacrifice

It will sound flippant but... are we still talking about rugby league here or gridiron?
Has our game got to the gridiron stage where players are so programmed they can't play instinctive football? Are they really told they can't pass because it's not their role? I don't know any kid who'd want to play a sport that restricts free thought. I know I'm old-school but I want every one of my 17 players willing and able to be able to pass the football.

i would also add he has lost his mobility and the ability to bust thru the defense. I think its great to have a ball playing edge like Shuster and a player like Quac who can bend the line, and look to get a pass away or an off load. An off load in traffic, or a player who attracts 2 or 3 defenders and can stand in the tackle can create opportunities as well.
