The Green/DCE combo

Snake

Snake's Alive!
It's a fait accompli that Green will be at the Warriors next year and Moylan at the Eagles. That has generated a lot of talk about the effect Green has had on Chez and the possible ramifications of a Moylan/DCE halves pairing.

I want to say that although I think Green was solid this year and helped a great deal with his level head and astute kicking game, we are doing Daly an injustice to imply that his spike in form this season is primarily down to Green.

Green or no Green in 2017, the entire squad performed better than previous seasons and I like to think that Daly improved a great deal off his own bat, combined with a more settled line-up, less injuries, better go forward and some handy coaching. Take nothing away from Green, he did his job but it's underselling DCE's effort this year to chalk it down to the guy beside him.

To say that Green organised and Daly ran the ball, is a little misleading in my opinion. Just about all of Daly's try assists came from a selective passing game, rather than taking the line on. Moving forward, we should benefit from being more of an attacking threat either side of the ruck with Moylan. Green started to show signs of age this year and lost a yard of pace that he seemed to previously possess (i've heard it's down to injury).

I think Daly can actually benefit from the added responsibility of organising the play a little more next year because he won't be able to drift in and out like he did at times this season. We need our best player and Captain to have his hands on the ball at crucial times and I think we went to Green a little too often at times this year, particularly in our attacking 20m zone.

Manly still need to fix the hooking issue.

Api is great when he is fresh, but as he tires his passes become erratic and tend to favour the LHS 😎

Hope young Lussick is building up for a bench spot next year

Green was a good influence at Manly, but obviously is not a long term solution @

It's a really interesting debate, the whole hooking issue.

The Cowboys won a competition with Jake Granville, who can only pass adequately from right to left and practically cannot spiral pass a football.

On the other hand, you have a guy like Smith whose service is obviously crucial to his sides fortunes.

Souths won a GF with Api at 9, so on the big day you can back him to get the job done...

It's a really interesting debate and I tend to think our coaching staff know enough to make the right call. If they didn't think he was good enough, they'd be scouting around for something else.

Wow, what a post. Perfectly articulated, balanced, informative and concise. Awesome summarisation from where I'm standing.

I dont see how hooker is an issue for us when we have the number 1 nsw hooker in our side not to mention hes a bolter for the Aus squad. The longer he is on the field the more points we make.

Green has been solid, I'm a fan of his. To me he's no nonsense, does his job for the team and goes by unrecognised. Unfashionable if you will. While I'm happy to have Moylan if it goes ahead, I'm concerned about how they will gel both being higher profile personalities.

Agree. A few months ago and well before the Moylan rumours I was talking to a business associate/mate who is a mad keen Manly supporter and I said he should take a look at silvertails.net. I told him at the time to look for the posts of a poster named Snake.
Keep up the good work @Snake, as hard as it is for you to post info early (i.e. when we all want it 😀) when it's close to being fact but potentially a risk of falling over.

Footnote: I, of course did not mention Eaglesdonttweet to old mate because really bad puns might scare him away.🙂

Thanks for the kind words mate!

Hopefully this Moylan thing comes to fruition...it's definitely in the works and 99% certain but until he signs on the dotted line, you just never know. It seems he has made a verbal agreement similar to James Graham at Saints but because of all the salary cap manoeuvring and the fact that a release has to be negotiated with Penrith, it's a lengthy process with no iron clad guarantee until it's over the line.

Fingers crossed because at the end of the day, rugby league is entertainment and Moylan sure as hell provides it.

It's pretty much a done deal...it's a messy situation with Penrith releasing him and our salary cap needing a bit work so it will take time but ultimately he should be an Eagle soon.
Are these accusations based on rumours or is someone really in the know?

I thought Green was really good for us this year. He had the ball in his hands much more than DCE, even though DCE is on mega bucks. I liken it to when DCE was killing it , when (I hate to say it), Foz was his foil. I love DCE as a player and I thought his leadership both on and off the field this year was exceptional, but I would worry that him and Moylan might be too much of the same to compliment each other.

Agreed, whether Moylan signs or not, it doesn't take anything away from the accuracy of Snakes summarisation of DCE's year and how exactly that correlates to Blake Green in the six. Green has been better than many expected coming out of the Storm system. Snake has been watching the football, and in my opinion has described the Green, DCE situation exactly as it was. Moylan, if he signs, is just a cherry on top.

I agree that DCE has still more attacking potential in him for our side but I think any review of his performance needs to take into account his contribution in defence that must compromise his attacking energy.

I have compiled some stats of halves this season - I've highlighted number of games played and number of tackles..........

DCE Stats.JPG

Daly's played more games, made more tackles, and averaged 23.36 tackles a game. The closest in this group is Pearce averaging 22.86, then you have Cronk averaging 14.55 tackles a game, Thurston 13.85 tackles per game he played.

I don't know for a fact but I feel the powers that be have a bit of tweaking to go with our forwards lineup and hopefully that will take some pressure off DCE to concentrate even more on what we all know he is capable of in the attacking area.

I hope you are right that Moylan will sign with Manly. He is a gun and will combine with DCE nicely.

He is certainly not wanted at the Riff. Why would a coach gamble their season by not picking Moylan who was fit for the weekend match. It was a complete failure move by Griffin. The Riff might have won with Moylans footy brain in action.

"Pretty much a done deal" is not what Fait accompli means! 😛😛😛

I think Green has been great for dce this year and his assistance probably has been underrated by many on this forum (our mvp voting is an indication of this).

I agree with you that he didn't "make" dce either. I'm looking forward to see DCE in his element next year, no matter who he partners.

This post was really only started to make the opening line comment! lol cough
