I believe its the have nots revolting because they gave certain players all the peanuts for christmas. Its not a joke, if your getting paid a quarter or less than the bloke that's playing next to you, Its bound to cause problems. Manly is guilty of paying overs for star players and the ****storm that it creates in the long term on and off the park is very clear to see but Manly hasn't changed or tried to fix the issue given DCE's new deal.

Been the same since 1908 at every single club that ever existed ...

I mean do you think sleepy bucknall was on the same coin as Fulton ??

Honestly do you think it’s different at any club ??

You mean DCE's $1.2 million per annum extension that only Buzz has reported?

🤣

Well look at the Roosters, Souths, Storm, and in the past the broncs. Some clubs are just better at handling the issue than others. You either pay extra and burn all the evidence or you suffer. Until Manly stops being a play by the rules club they will always be limited by the rules and languish at the bottom of the ladder.

Or get busted for breaking them thar rules. Like they did about 6 years ago when Fulton apparently got it all wrong on the third party front.

My issue is that the club has overpaid for DCE for the past nine years. There was one season to go before his massive salary would have been able to be better distributed. Yet the dumb-ass club extends his contract by a further two years when we all know his footballing powers keep diminishing with age.
I don't blame DCE. Who wouldn't cop the coin? But the club decision-makers don't seem to learn from their mistakes. It makes me question why I invest so much of myself into a club which thinks leadership is a cruise liner.

Weird how people only mention we overpaid for DCE but selectively ignore the fact that Jake and Tom are on 2M between them. The turbo fetish is bewildering to say the least.
Either you point the finger at all 3 or none.

Don’t blame any of the players but it is the club and managements fault for being so dumb and having 3 players take up the cap.

That's were we went wrong. trying to build a players worth up through third party deals instead of a weekly golf game.

There will always be a few players on a million and others on minimum contracts.
Split the money evenly and you will never have a team challenging for the premiership, playmakers are always going to command a million and you can't win without them.

Good points. Do we know if DCE was extended on a reduced salary or the same deal?

And this is exactly the problem. We will never rebuild with Penrith type passion until DCE is gone.

Before the Mid - 90's Super League War the amount of $$ that players were paid was fairly low.
League Players and Cricket Players had Day Jobs.
In the early 80's when I was working in a Supermarket, the legendary Cricketer DOUG WALTERS walked in.
I said "G'day, what brings you here today?" Something like that anyway.
He said he was the Sales Rep for Rothmans cigarettes.
TERRY RANDALL the Manly tackling enforcer, was a Cement Truck Driver, when I met him in the 80's at a mate's Concrete Pump business in Brookvale.
ALLAN THOMSON the Manly Second Rower, was my 3rd Grade Primary School Teacher in 1969.

Today there is a huge disparity between most of the players.
I can imagine how that could create some resentment amongst some of the players.
I do know that some players in the past have taken a pay cut to stay at Manly, and to allow the Club to pay some other players more money.

We don't live in a Utopian Socialist Society, so the players won't all get paid the same amount of $$.
