The Games LOST in 2017

maxta

First Grader
Round 1 - Lost 20 - 12 Eels
Clunky game - new combinations - stop/start style suited them...effort was good.
Round 2 - Lost 38 - 18 Souths
Amazing start - Fell apart badly and heads dropped - bad loss.
Round 6 - Lost 35 - 10 Illawarra
Went in over confident and were never up for it - learned about effort from this game...
Round 7 - Lost 30 - 26 Storm
Poor start, but got into the fight - Worried the NRL favourites with some super attack and fight
Round 10 - Lost 24 - 14 Brisbane
Big 1st half - could consider unlucky, but fell below the standards set early.
Round 18 - Lost 16 - 8 Penrith
Sorry but no comment - this game was decided by an imposter with a whistle - Effort great.

Rounds 1 & 2 the cobwebs were obvious, as the players adjusted to key signings building formations and shape in attack and defence - so hard to judge till Round 4-5...
The Illawarra game R6 was probably a good thing, the team were over confident to the point they thought it was turn up, collect to collect the 2 points.... the team was flat almost waiting for someone else to get it done rather than rip in...(great to avenge it this Sunday but tough game in the Gong - won't be easy).
The following week against Storm, had stage fright for 25 minutes, watching Cronk play instead of contesting him....showed fight to make it a game and proved to themselves they could put points on where others would have copped a flogging - good signs in a loss.
A few weeks later after finding form played Bris R10 - Dominated 1st 40 but at half time, fell asleep....not far off the pace but certainly a poor 2nd half.
Again NO comment on the Penrith thing, as it was a non event....

What do you take from the losses....some say you learn more from these than your wins??

Every loss we've learnt plenty, so they've all been a good thing bar that rigged Penrith game.

After we got complacent against the Broncos we fell away, which we have learnt from and haven't shown much signs of doing so since. That game I was also disappointed in as Trbo was tackled in the air in what really should have been an illegal tackle i reckon, and after that we lost motivation and in my opinion lost the game due to it, although still a poor second half that we've thankfully learnt from.

Weeks against the Storm and Dragons we just didn't come with any energy whatsoever (except 2nd half storm where we nearly came back). I don't think we would've beaten many sides with the performance we put up against the dragons. Although after these games we learnt a crucial skill.. To not put your heads down and to not get frustrated or dwell on the negatives after something goes wrong as we started Dragons game with a bull**** widdop "try" and storm game with a kick out on the full

Good Point on THAT Turbo tackle...did shift the momentum in a big way....older than you young Harry, so forget some of these incidents - though that was 1 obvious big time miss....and a game changer.
On the flip side -the attack leading up to this game, revolved so much around Turbo, that his loss (though frustrating at the time) - meant the team had to learn to score points without him....this they did.

Good post mate.

We showed a hell of a lot of spirit in that loss to the Storm.

We were down 30-12 after 37 mins.

We had 4 goal line dropouts in that game.

And Melbourne made 3 try saves.

And remember, Taupau was out of that game.

Kelly had a blinder - 145m, 2 line breaks, 1 try, 1 try assist.

Jake was a powerhouse - 143m, 42 tackles, 0 missed tackles, 1 line break, 1 try

(Billy Slater was the difference - 3 try assists, 2 try saves)

Don't forget the first "out on the full" was taken out by the storm who clearly had his foot in the air and lead to 6 points and us on the back foot straight away. If the linesman hadn't handicapped us with that pineapple so early we might have got that one.

Thanks for reminding me of that one! I clearly remember being right on to that as soon as it happened. Just as bad as that 40/20 decision vs the Knights.
