Yep , looking at the draw , I think we are going to get a good indication of how successful ( or not ) the 25 year will be after the first two months .

I know the draw gets easier later in the year , but if we are say 2/8 it’ll be almost impossible to come back from there.

A pass for me is 4/8

A “ we could well finish top 4” is 6/8

We have 5 home games , we absolutely must win these.

Warriors away ( we usually do well in NZ)

Sharks away , could be a real toughie

Penrith away , it’s not Penrith Park but they’ll be in the top 2 so a real hard one.

What’s your thoughts.

Need a real good start the first 4 rounds because r5 - r8 is tricky… home games in that stretch are drizzle and StMerge (who are a bit of a bogey team) whilst the away games are gummies and riff…

I reckon we need to win 3/4 in those first 4 weeks to have confidence from w5 on…

It's an interesting start to the year for sure. Realistically we shouldn't be dropping any of the Brookie games with Melbourne being the biggest test, but we have beaten them the last 3 years in a row at home. Dragons on Easter Thursday could be more challenging than expected due to playing in Perth only 5 days earlier but we should be able to handle that and are a better side than them. Sharks and Penrith away are the obvious tough games but even then those aren't at their regular home grounds.

It's the period after the bye until the end of Origin that concerns me. DCE likes to take the couple of games before Origin off to conserve himself, Tom likely doesn't back up in Round 13 vs Brisbane, and we have to play all 3 Origin weeks without them, possibly Haumole and (less likely this year) Jake. So in a way I'd agree those first 8 weeks are the most important to bank as many wins as possible before Origin effectively shuts down the NRL for those couple of months. If we can win say 6/8 to start then snatch a few during that part of the year, we could definitely push for top 4 with the draw we have to finish.

What will define a teams year is how strongly they finish the year
How they Over come the Mother of All Adversaries and Over achieving

It won’t surprise me if the only one missing is Tom.

Just have a feeling QLD will go with “ generation next “ and both Jake & Guaca seem to be on the outer.

Origin is a terrible draw for the club, hopefully a fit and healthy squad are available then. I think there will be a few players in the picture for origin this year.

  • Turbo for sure given he is fit
  • DCE, QLD are short on quality sevens.
  • Haumole, with injuries to Murray he will be in the frame.
  • Tent and Jake, they will be on the edges of the 18, with injury you never know and in Tents case a good start to the year could have him in the 18.

Manly is one of the only teams this season that play 3 games without origin players. Still think this period will be the difference between top 4 or 8
Is this right? I’ve don’t think I’ve ever seen a team play all 3 split rounds.

Edit: Just had a look. Roosters and Bulldogs are the same.

I dont so much think the first 8 rounds will make or break our year, but feel if we want recognition as a potential Top 4 side, it would be great to get out the blocks well.
I reckon this season will have many changes of top 8 teams and will be a dogfight those last few rounds to decide who gets in.
I think what will define it is a decent run of being able to keep the same team together majority of the season, improve defensively and will find a Top 4 spot.
Just on first 8 weeks see 5 - 6 Wins so Silvertails will be Eagle Rocking !!
