The Daly Cherrygraph

The narrative around dce not rating seibold somewhat takes a hit in my mind when you think back to DCE talking in a presser after a loss about how he went away from the coach's instructions, and played a different game plan.

Is that something he would say if he went away from the game plan, whether in the heat of the battle or deliberately. It sounds like an admittance he made an error and should have played the game plan - made by a coach he apparently doesn't think can coach.

I may be wrong, wouldn't be the first time.
He’s the master of spinning media narratives and the club captain. It’s just a PR line and nothing more.

I think he doesn’t rate Seibs and didn’t like how Des was treated by the club after the Pride saga and saw an opportunity to set himself up inside a club that can offer more post-football opportunities and security.

Despite all the question marks aimed at DCE, what I argued long ago seems to remain the most probable. DCE had a falling out with some element of the Manly admin, whether its to do with the coach, the management, the owner, is not being said, and given his decision I dont think it had anything to do with money. The fact he would accept a quite low one year salary at SC of $500,000 and from the start of 2025 declare he wouldn't play with Manly, even though its reported he was offered substantially more to stay, seems to testify to that. I know some will argue that he was being given a car or an offer of coaching, but I suspect he could have got that at Manly. As has been shown following the Titans issue, DCE is very private about his affairs and despite being besmirched, doesn't react through the media but rather through action.

If greed had been the fundamental issue he would have bitten the bullet, put up with what was upsetting him, and taken the money offered by the Sea Eagles. He didn't. He stuck to what he obviously considers his principles. I disagree with many on this forum in that I think basically DCE is honourable. He just doesn't seek to defend himself publicly. He keeps his cards close to his chest. And the media and fans therefore have free rein to speculate unhindered.

I think where this ‘honourable’ argument falls apart is evinced in the 100% Footy broadcast. That caused all sorts of problems and wasn’t the respectful and ‘honourable’ way to go about it. I agree he’s had a falling out and I suspect it was to do with Hasler’s treatment. Either way, he doesn’t like someone. I also agree it probably wasn’t motivated by money but also think he’d be getting more than a great deal at the Chooks, which is why they were sounded out by his manager for a contract. He’d be set up post football for sure, in ways Manly could never afford to offer.

I think you have most of that right, though disagree with the honourable and particularly the 'he's a private person'. Private people don't need to make announcements when there is nothing to really announce until you have signed with another club. Don't sell me he was doing the club a favour, that could have been done over the phone or in person.

My understanding is this is very much the case....and still is. I am not sure what the fallout is all about but does go back some time. Having said that I think he played his cards very badly in how he handled his exit this year. History will certainly remember him due to his great tenure and +350 games with the club but so no sure as an all time great and all time favourite.

There was a time for DCE to support des and it was the last 8 rounds after rainbow gate, not while he is getting the arse from the titans. At least tino stuck up for him this time but our captain was eerily quiet when Des was being hung out to dry after throwing himself on a grenade

Des had a history of getting players to sign unders and DCE was reported of doing so for the last 2 years although his output is at odds with being underpaid . Its just as likely he didnt like taking unders for des and when he left so did the culture and agreement in principle

DCE choices were about DCE which is ok, but defies his standing as captain and club legend. Your only as good as your last game/ season / decisions

Trying to find excuses to justify his poor handling is a nice personality trait but not realistic and shows an emotional attachment rather than form

Its never ever cool in a salary cap to pay someone a million bucks and the lay down. You can have the ****s all day long but not game day ,

hanging around to reach personal milestones and showing up when it suits your own agenda, well that is a first class w@nker and TBH someone who has an inflated opinion of themselves and there standing . That inflated opinion is enforced every time someone pats him on the back for a 6/10 game

Rainbow gate
Gladstone
Dce resigning
Always derails full seasons rather than being moments, and he was the boss, leader on all occasions and up to his neck in it on 2 . Nice guy, family man but first class sook

Where's your evidence Leonard. . His actions are consistent with his behavioural characteristics. His motivation strongly suggest what I'm saying. I'm not saying I'm right, its just in my opinion its the highest probability compared to other options. I look at the arguments against and they are unsupported by factual evidence. My sense is that there is a strong tendency to dislike the guy which distorts perspective. The sense that he is arrogant, strongly confident. But wait, it could also be that he's quite reserved, an often mistaken quality. Does he big note himself verbally. . Outside of his minor stoush with Hastings and his strong advice to Schuster regarding commitment, you tell what he has done wrong. We like the flawed characters, the underdogs. Tall poppies we tend to suspect of hidden flaws. Thing is tell me in factual terms what he has done wrong. Not conjecture. Fact.

There’s zero facts , only opinions

NO ONE KNOWS.

That's the point Mark. He's being demonised by conjecture. No one really know, though based on what's happened we can surmise regarding what is most probable based on what we do know. Just as well none of those defaming him had to present evidence in court. They'd be torn apart and perhaps charged with defamation of character. Easy to say these things at a distance. No repercussions

Leonard already did, right here, but you haven't addressed that.

DCE leaving, DCE wanting more money, DCE not wanting to be disrespected, DCE wanting to be at a stronger club .... whatever, true or untrue, fair enough.
But not sure how you defend his channel 9 bombshell (which he doubled down on soon after, by referring to a smear campaign)

Yes I’ll grant you that.

But I think as fans of the club he plays for , and has played for now for 15 years , we are probably entitled to an opinion.

And both the pro & anti brigades have strong opinions , and very much tend to manipulate what they think has happened to suit their narrative.

I just think all that’s been said , has now been said , he’s got 1 game to go , and then he’s no longer a Sea Eagle.

I’ll still hold my strong view , but just as I did for his 350th game, I’ll wish him well for his last home game.

If I was there ( I won’t be ) I wouldn’t be booing or waving silly signs , rather I’d politely clap as he entered & left the field.

I just think it’s time for everyone to move on , anything raised has been raised a 1000 times before , we are achieving nothing by discussing it any further.

We know he’s going to the Rorters.
We know he hates Manly

But he’ll be like many , a valued “ old boy “ when the dust settles.

Just be good to see this thread die a natural death ( it won’t of course ), as there’s really nothing more to add to the whole sorry story.
