The Daly Cherrygraph

From Rothfields article:

"In another surprise, it has been reported that it was Cherry-Evans’ camp who approached the Roosters about a potential union.'

So our captain approached the roosters, the treacherous prick.

He couldn't manage a premiership at Manly since 2011 so he's gone looking for a club that has the potential to win a premiership and I hope he fails miserably.

It is and they will get away with it. We're all just pissed off that we aren't capable of being able to offer the same types of deals. It's a competition of haves and have nots and we clearly these days in the have not category.
Agreed but also pissed off the media narrative is that manly is so garbage that he took 300k less just to get away from the joint... not mentioning the extras not captured in the cap that would have been the difference and I'm not talking about his bonus BYD 🙃

A $500,000 contract and a new car is all that it took the Sydney Roosters to secure Manly legend Daly Cherry-Evans for next season.
And your columnist can also reveal that it was Cherry-Evans and his manager who approached the Roosters first, not the other way round.

DCE’s agent Joe Wehbe has long had a tight relationship with the Roosters.

Although he is unaccredited, Wehbe manages champion fullback James Tedesco plus centre Billy Smith – and next year will deliver Cherry-Evans and NSW Origin hooker Reece Robson.

While the Roosters still refuse to confirm a contract has been signed, Cherry-Evans will be wearing their jersey in 2026 unless he makes a last-minute decision to retire.

The $500,000 price tag will shock footy fans.

Most thought it was closer to $800,000.

That he is leaving the northern beaches for less than Manly offered him illustrates the enormous level of resentment that Cherry-Evans has for the Sea Eagles.

He says he felt disrespected about the way negotiations with Manly played out, hence the announcement on live television in round four that he was leaving after 15 seasons.

At 37 next year, DCE will get a fresh start at the Roosters.

There will also be the opportunity for a career after football to learn about coaching under Trent Robinson, who has already brought through the likes of Craig Fitzgibbon, Jason Ryles and the late Paul Green.

The news that Cherry-Evans is prepared to play at a discount rate means he will be on half the money of boom halfback Sam Walker, who has also been guaranteed he will keep the No.7 jersey next year.

It also enables the Roosters to upgrade and extend five-eighth Hugo Savala from his current $80,000 development contract to a long-term deal.
Bullsiht

Phil Rothfield has reported that the Manly halfback is taking a significant pay cut to join the Roosters, agreeing to a $500,000 deal in 2026.

- honestly should be the roosters media motto. "take unders to join..."

In addition to half a million dollars, a new car will also be included in the deal.
I bet the NRL wouldn’t have let us extend him for 500K.

On the surface, DCE looks like he’s “taking a pay cut” to join the Rorters.

But let’s be real, there’s always more going on behind the scenes. As many have already mentioned...The official cap hit stays small, while the real rewards flow through coaching salaries and off-field arrangements. It’s the same playbook the Roosters have rolled out for years: keep the books looking tidy while looking after their marquee names.

And the way DCE and sections of the media are carrying on? Absolute asses. They’re trying to spin it like he’s desperate to get out of Manly and is willing to play for way less, when in reality, he’s still pocketing the full value, just through different channels. He’s not missing out on money at all.

💰 Likely breakdown (based on history at the Rorters):
  • 2026: $500k on-cap + $300–400k in TPAs/commercial = ~$800–900k total
  • 2027+: Transition into a coaching contract, likely worth $700–900k (depending on length/role)

Classic Rorters. The “sombrero” never sleeps.

All legal and smart management, that's why we are where we are.

The usual Cherry-Evans game yesterday

He plays well against opposition who were extremely poor and would have struggled to beat our NSW cup side

He never splays well against the good sides when we need him

The myth can go to the roosters and do what he has done to manly for the last 10 years
It was like when QLD beat NSW last year after Suaalii got sent off in the 8th minute. Dollar Chaser got MOM and there were muppets on here crowing about how good he was and how he dominates in origin. It was proof they said, proof he is an elite half. If only he could play against 12 men every week.

I can't wait for the surprise, surprise announcement that he's signed to the rorters. Then I can really let fly on what I think of him. Till rhen he's a Manly player whom I'll criticise for playing badly or praise for playing well.
… I don’t think anyone cares where and when he is leaving or how much he is making…. Players are always coming and going… it’s the way he went about it on national tv and saying that he won’t confirm where he will be going ‘ “but it won’t be at Manly”… I have never heard or seen another player do that!… Sooo disrespectful to the club!

Someone explain to me, how does DCE walk into a coaching role, after a career of average mediocrity? He has literally done his own personal thing for a decade.

Cooper Cronk was a detailed player, who could transfer that detailed system, that actually won comps, to others.

DCE seems like the last bloke I would choose to impart his knowledge of systems and structure to the next generation.

Apparently he is very good with coaching /mentoring young players eg joey Walsh …this is what I have been told by ex first grade rep players

Dollars: [talking to young talent he is mentoring] So, wait for the 2nd or 3rd tackle and kick unexpectedly. Dribble grubbers over the dead ball line and give away 7 tackle sets when you are in the attacking zone. Arm grab in defence and never run into the line when attacking. Preservation of body is all that counts for a long and wealthy career.
