Bob Fulton did not walk out of Manly without notice.

In Bob Fulton's words...

“Manly gave a healthy offer, but it was surpassed by what Packer offered.”

It began a life-long friendship with Packer – all the while Arthurson had to watch his ‘favourite son’ pull on a rival’s jersey for the very first time.

“When I spoke to Ken Arthurson he said I had to take the offer,” Fulton added.

“He was a second father to me and he didn’t try to talk me out of it.

“We had that kind of relationship from when I was 16 and it stayed that way throughout my career.”

What I should have said was he didn't announce that at the beginning of the year but at the end which meant Manly had to find a replacement quickly. I understand Fulton's decision. Money. Same with Vautin. Both team captains yet they are OK. I reiterate, if you look closely at what DCE is saying you can see that, in my opinion a high probability, that he is leaving because of something he is not saying and not happy about at the club, not because of money or disloyalty. Should be obvious given he said he WONT be playing for Manly full stop. Says it all. The suggestions about SC and the Dolphins were very doubtfully the primary reason. He wasn't interested in any offer Manly was making it seems. That's an emotional reaction not a monetary reaction. He's made it quite clear that he realises he's got the fans offside, but it wasn't about them.

This narrative that he’s leaving because he wants one last chance at winning another premiership before he retires grates on me - he was happy to hang around on lucrative coin for a fair few mediocre years under Barrett & Des, I’m not buying that as his true reason for leaving & think the rumour that he doesn’t rate Seibold has been conveniently reverse-engineered as the reason by Seibold haters.

We didn’t hear a peep out of him during the travesty that was Barrett, yet now we’re supposed to believe Seibold’s coaching ability is his reason, when we finished 7th last season & were looking likely in the first 4 rounds this season (apart from the Wahs loss, where DCE admitted he went away from Seibold’s game plan)?

IMO, he spat the dummy when the club wouldn’t re-sign him for 2 more years on big $$$, nothing more, nothing less.
Your last sentence I think nails the situation to a T, regardless of all the other bull**** suggested.

He’d been used to the big dollars and thought he could con another 2 years of it.

When they said no , he spat the dummy.

It just makes sense and follows his usual manner.

I think GREAT just goes too far.

I consider myself to have been a fan boy. I'm pissed at the moment.

Yet I think a balanced view over the years is has consistently left a tinge of disappointment, and never quiet lived up to his potential, and that is how history may view him.

The sour ending just adds to the disappointment.

I was disappointed he didn't embraced the goal kicking role, I still think that could have helped his composure, his leadership and his general kicking accuracy.

It's an inability to grow or grow parts of his game quickly that permeates.

The game management, short kicking game, the repeat set in touch when that was the dominant play, the landing those bomb always being a long way out when other 7 are pin point.

I think of Thurston in his prime,he had a running game, he'd take a hit over and over when halves were NOT protected, same with Cronk. DCE never. Thurston Cronk would have games where they just had the ball on a string with hand and foot. DCE just always a bit short of that mark with the foot. Thurston Cronk they could influence the ref, team mates, opponents. It's the Game Management and Leadership more broadly on field I think DCE really falls a long way short.

Always hit and hope without building pressure and grinding the game, or influencing other with his mind.

Some field goals off the left foot, but the memory often reminds me that if turtles game management and even set play management was better, it never should have come down to a field goal never mind him landing his 3rd attempt.

His defence, that rushing out of the line, you can't say teams haven't targeted him and often found a channel right in between him and his back rower. It his read has been a weakness as opposed to tackling technique.

The turtle has been a good player for sure, and good for a long long time,

But even as a fan boy I think GREAT just goes that little to far on how History should and will view him.
Yeah I’m pretty much the same as you; massive fan boy for many years. So many great memories.

One thing that no one can deny, is he’s entertaining, I.e. his creativity has led to some sublime attacking football over the years.

However, when you look at the greats, their finals records speak for themselves. Even if they fall short of premierships, the truly great players are there in the finals almost every year and ice the big moments in big games. DCE has a mediocre track record in big matches. Even last year, we had some ball against the Chooks and were in the game and he couldn’t come up with a way to break down the defence. I think he has been a great flat track footy player but not a big game player. People will point to some SOO games, but he was always surrounded by the game’s elite players. I’ve always wanted to see him win MOM in a preliminary semifinal or something of the like, but he seemed to always fall short in effectiveness. He’d try but he’d kick balls dead, throw wild passes, and run around like a headless chook.

I wonder if the Noughts have a backflip clause on Brown. Brown went alright last night, but he's no where near a 1.4m a year player.
Will be an anchor around the Knight's neck for many years to come!

Phil Rothfield has reported that the Manly halfback is taking a significant pay cut to join the Roosters, agreeing to a $500,000 deal in 2026.

- honestly should be the roosters media motto. "take unders to join..."

In addition to half a million dollars, a new car will also be included in the deal.

May not have publicly announced it ... But arko is on record as saying that Fulton came to him with the Easts offer ... and he told him to jump at it ... so I think the club knew.
