The Daly Cherrygraph

I'm sorry i just don't see it. I'm reading nothing but conjecture and an emotional reaction but little tangible fact. Many just don't like him but the reasons are vague. So admit it. Its not because he is not a champion player. Its because you don't like him.
I will admit I don't like him. It's not that I dislike him, but I've simply never taken to him as a player. There's never been any emotional connection between him as a player and me as a fan. Probably more on me than it is on him. And I have never begrudged him his salary. What Manly have paid him over the years is down to the club, not his fault at all.

His best attribute as a player has always been his availability. He never gets injured, which is remarkable. He can kick a 40/20 and a field goal from time to time, but we have tried and failed to build a team around him for 15 years and have always come up short. So it feels like it's best for both him and the club to part ways.

But if you want "tangible facts" as to why I don't consider him a great player, all you have to do is look at his winning record for Manly (specifically the lack thereof) since winning a grand final in his first year. I don't care about his Origin appearances, or his games for Australia. As a club player, he has played a role and that's pretty much that. Is he a good player, sometimes very good? Yes, he is. But we could have plugged any number of halfbacks into his position and ended up with the same lack of success.

A $500,000 contract and a new car is all that it took the Sydney Roosters to secure Manly legend Daly Cherry-Evans for next season.
And your columnist can also reveal that it was Cherry-Evans and his manager who approached the Roosters first, not the other way round.

DCE’s agent Joe Wehbe has long had a tight relationship with the Roosters.

Although he is unaccredited, Wehbe manages champion fullback James Tedesco plus centre Billy Smith – and next year will deliver Cherry-Evans and NSW Origin hooker Reece Robson.

While the Roosters still refuse to confirm a contract has been signed, Cherry-Evans will be wearing their jersey in 2026 unless he makes a last-minute decision to retire.

The $500,000 price tag will shock footy fans.

Most thought it was closer to $800,000.

That he is leaving the northern beaches for less than Manly offered him illustrates the enormous level of resentment that Cherry-Evans has for the Sea Eagles.

He says he felt disrespected about the way negotiations with Manly played out, hence the announcement on live television in round four that he was leaving after 15 seasons.

At 37 next year, DCE will get a fresh start at the Roosters.

There will also be the opportunity for a career after football to learn about coaching under Trent Robinson, who has already brought through the likes of Craig Fitzgibbon, Jason Ryles and the late Paul Green.

The news that Cherry-Evans is prepared to play at a discount rate means he will be on half the money of boom halfback Sam Walker, who has also been guaranteed he will keep the No.7 jersey next year.

It also enables the Roosters to upgrade and extend five-eighth Hugo Savala from his current $80,000 development contract to a long-term deal.

I respect your views Cochrane. If you don't like him that's fine. That's a personal choice. I just suspect many look for fault, pretending its not about personal dislike that causes me concern I just feel DCE has been demonised for factors others display with impunity I suspect its because he displays a very confident air and some mistaken that for arrogance. Perhaps there is a little of that, but he seems a quite confident individual. I read an article on him which describes a strong family oriented man, highly disciplined and very private. That would explain why he says little about himself except in respect of the game. I was impressed by his decision to not lash out when he decided to take the Manly offer and leave the Titans. He copped **** but said nothing. Same this year. Something has got under his bonnet at Manly. People say its for the money. Of course if he still loves playing and can be paid for it, why not, but I read there was a falling out between him and elements of the admin or coaching at Manly. He wouldn't have been so adamant about not playing for Manly, if it was about money. He would have looked for an offer from them but said he wouldn't. That's not a money issue, its a dispute issue. And yet despite it being obvious there's a problem, he's said nothing. That's consistent with his way of dealing with things. I think many misread that.
Hahahahaha

Can I just say to you, no 1 fanboi, good for you going down with the ship….. honestly. It’s honourable….. I mean stupid yes but honestly good for you. I’m serious.

Iv also just want to say, thanks for the seriously entertaining, boundlessly hilarious and whimsical views on D$E ….. no doubt a great day for you.. I’m mean based on complete and utter dribble. But wow, entertaining. Great stuff.
Honestly love how you base your opinion on, wait, emotion. Then blaming everyone for basing their views on….. emotions. It’s seriously fantastic…

For the people that love Manly and aren’t fanboi’s… 🤪

1. D$E blew up our season announcing his move to……….. nobody. Great stuff lol
2. Nobody cares what he achieved for………. Wait for it, himself, or QLD.
3. Complete lack of integrity, in the guise of, wait wait wait, doing it for his family…
Most, not all , can see he has zero integrity. Which is why he’s not loved..
4. Bit of proof( you know little bear, like a courtroom)……
2011, won a premiership on the back of arguably the greatest Manly team we’ve seen, then stamped his little feet and wouldn’t come to training for a bigger contract.
Backflips on Titans for a,wait, wait, bigger, longer contract for Manly.
2025 detonated our season announcing, on national TV, that he was leaving , in front of media, fellow players, and worst of all, shi!!ing on fans. Could have done it behind closed doors, but yeah, way better this way. Lol
All fact. Lack of integrity.
5. As Captain ( for Manly) achieved………… and led us to…………. Nothing. Lol
6. Best yet…… if he were at the Storm………. He would never of been in the top 13……. Cronk >>>>>>>> D$E. Smith hated him..
Hughes>>>>>>>DCE.

Lol
Am I being antagonistic, yep.
Do I care? Nope, lol

Will people think I’m being mean?? Awwwwww I dont fuking care.
I go for Manly. Bleed Manly. And DCEs 10 year contract was the single biggest disaster in this clubs history. And I’m OVER the moon he’s leaving. Not only that, he destroyed his own legacy, all on his own, which is the best bit… Now personally iv loved his very public downfall, iv been a massive detractor of his for many many years. So satisfying he’s shown his true colours……. By his own hand…..

Whilst my post has been long ( rare) no doubt your reply will be a 10000 word essay, on why your more removed from the emotion of football, because, wait wait, you’ve walked into a courtroom before……
lol. Again placing yourself above most fans……. Which is total dribble.

Awww, just playing bear.
Happy 350th!!!!!!

For me DCE has brought almost equal amounts of frustration and joy over the years

For every golden point field goal there have been the headless chook moments.

I do not blame hind or what ever he has been paid but I do not like how he announced he was leaving.

To me he is a complex fella and we all might need some space before really seeing where he sits overall with us

Also as if he is not getting a mil in payments next year….does not help the roosters with their paper bag identity

Its only 500k because he has played like rubbish all year.

I would wager 500k myself, it was much more 6 months ago.

So it was a dummy spit because Manly didn’t prostrate themselves before him & offer him a blank cheque for another 2 years 😡

Leaves a sour taste is an understatement.
But my prediction - all it will take to soften our harsh judgments of DCE is for Manly to have a winning season next year. And if his new club (whoever that be)(lololol) does worse than us, all the better. So so so better 🙂
That would be the greatest Karma of all.

He’s retiring to a coaching position outside the club, whatever this year is not next year, he has had some brilliant and great moments, but he didn’t win us the game in 2011, it was the captaincy of killer and the crew that came with him that won us that game.

We have a few more mid table years ahead then hopefully we invest in forwards and not backs and get this balance right so we can compete

We know the amount quoted is all part of the media spin. I’d g/tee its total bull****. But how ironic the games most money hungry, selfish player is so motivated to cut his ties with his club of 15 years that he is taking massive unders to get out. It’s the final insult and slap in the face to the club. His legacy is toast. Good riddance to him
