The Daly Cherrygraph

As bad as things are going there is a massive light at the end of the tunnel that is now only 5 games away. How sad are the next 2 home games going to be for him - 350th against the Dolphins and last home game against the Warriors. Watch the club try to celebrate it but I’ll just be cheering to see the back of the prick
The Dolphins game could get really ugly, it'll be just muted applause with a tissue type banner to run through. Can't see a walk around after the game. Kinda like, let's get the game done and then get outa here.

His short line drop-out restart doesn't gets sufficient height for anyone to contest the ball. It usually goes straight to an opposition player 20 metres from our line. Maybe someone else should try this kick?

It's interesting isn't it. The last rocks and diamonds player we had was probably Cliffy and youd never read a bad thing about him.

But obviously there are glaring differences. Cliffy played in some amazing lineup's, even up til retirement. Daly hasn't really had an amazing line up since 2015. And you could say that this is because of the cap space used by him and two others.

There's zero doubts that Daly would have won more rings if he had been at Bronco's, Melbourne etc. But apart from 2021 when Tom had an industry topping season, we've never been in the hunt. And even some might say we were flat track bullies that year.

I totally respect his durability, those golden points drop goals, the fact he's always backed up after origin, even in his later years, and also what he's achieved at rep level. But I'll also always remember the circus that has always been his contract renewals.

Bottom line is, he's played one or two years too long for us. Without still knowing what really went down last year when he allegedly asked for a release, maybe in hindsight they should have let him go.

Hmmmm.

I really can't have Cliffy and DCE mentioned in the same post, make that postcode ... alright then, universe.

Cliffy is everything Manly that DCE never was

Great points here, but there's one massive difference you have ignored. Cliffy had a 6 on his back. DCE has a 7 on his.

He isn't here to be the rocks and diamonds shotgun player. He's supposed to be our $1 million game managing halfback, and yet he just does anything that springs to his mind, with apparently zero self control.

I've heard Gould, Johns, and the like say that the greatest halfback's have a bread and butter they can return to. If the chips are down, Cleary can run it, and create a fast PTB. Fogarty can put up a hell of a bomb. Hughes uses his running game to try and create a line break.

DCE still doesn't have one. It might just be dropping it off to a flat footed Corey Waddell. Is that what we truly expect out of a halfback with nearly 350 games to his name?

DCE is great in a good team... But halfbacks of his supposed and claimed calibre, should have the ability to pull us out of this mess. It's why I'm fascinated to see what Fogarty brings instead.

Not sure the universe would be big enough LOL

But seriously, having been a Manly fan from 1967 to 2023, I am pretty certain that DCE is close to cracking the clubs top 10 halfbacks list.

If only we could win 60-70 games in a row to increase his win percentage from 46% since 2014 to about 50% which would lift him from 'Bog Average' to 'Average' and perhaps sneak him into 9th or 10th spot of our all time great halves.

Broncos, Melbourne etc wouldn't have put up with his averageness for 10+ years

Cliff was a player that made many other players better. They weren't average by any means, but think how different the side would have played if there was never a Cliffy.

You just don't compare any player to Cliffy, he wasn't one in a generation, he was one in a lifetime, ask the likes of Gould, Matty Johns etc who whether you like them or not, know their stuff.
