The Daly Cherrygraph

I'm surprised DCE and Billy didn't have a chat before the team was announced with DCE being informed he won't be picked and should announce his retirement.

DCE could have come out in the media saying he is making himself unavailable due to a nagging injury.
My body isn't up to origin and if I can't offer 100% its best I step aide for now, its not bad enough to prevent me from playing NRL.

It doesn't matter how bad he plays, our club won't axe him or pick him as a 14.
It's a no win situation, it would look like sour grapes because of the media storm created by the way him leaving has gone down.

The way he is playing it seems like he has played 1 season too many let alone wanting to play on for another 2 but a change of scenery might be wants needed and the roosters my get great service out of him.
It would have been a mistake keeping him here for another 2 seasons, it would have been perfect for all if we could have won a premiership this season and him retiring on the back of that.

Everyone would have seen through that straight away I think. Also, it wouldn’t surprise me if DCE thinks he can somehow force his way back in, this year or next.

Do feel a little sorry for D C E specifically just in the rep footy sense as while not in the champion category , has clocked up a largely impressive origin stint .
Not so charitable in some previous lead up club games for origins from him when he has just been mainly focused on trying to stand out or do dodgy type individual plays or playing mode just to try and enhance his rep prospects and to the detriment to his teammates and Manly in general .
Last Thursday against the Knights was just another instance
Anyway , can really restore or rectify some diminished respect if he can now primarily try to hone his club form to a more consistent and team focussed good level and help to give Manly a decent shot at the top 8

I am disappointed in the way DCE used the media to say he was leaving the club.( I suspect he will regret this at some point) From an administration perspective the club has done something to upset him and it’s is not just about $ imo. I really don’t get a lot of hate projected at him on the site. In relation to missing out from SOO selection if anything DCE played better than Munster in the first game he is just a sacrificial lamb to hopefully in the eyes of Queenslanders reinvigorate the team. He has never been forgiven by many of the QLD old boys for the backflip. In my view like many other fans ( if you go off the reaction he receives at the games where it really counts! ) he will be remembered as a Manly great and so he should be.I wish him all the best for the rest of the season and what ever he decides to do in the future.. GO MANLY….

Bugger; I was hoping Billy would stick with him, as DCE playing Origin wouldn’t have cost us much with regards to our matchup with the Tits, but his omission from the hillbillies improves them with Deardon playing half.

Go Manly and go the BLUES!

I don’t have any sympathy for DCE he put the media spot light on himself but failed to do what he was required to do on the field. We needed him to reel in the low percentage plays and focus on good game management. Either he is unable or unwilling to do so. If the Roosters have indeed signed him they must be very nervous right now. I doubt Robinson would tolerate low percentage players.

That would be like NSW old boys and fans in general turning on Haas for 10+ years cause he signed with a sydney club, but reneged and stayed with the broncos. I don't think it would happen. Maybe it sticks due to non manly fans' perception of dce? Why does or would it still be an issue all these years later.

The way he used the media, and Danny Weiner hammering the manly club weeks afterwards based off cherry information is likely why many fans have wiped their hands of a player with brilliance, but not the marquee player on big coin to take us anywhere.

Even back to his early days where i was a fan, his interviewing started to grate on me after a while, switching to serious/media mode, and not being himself.

After game press conferences begin with him picking at his fingers, in his own world, then questions start and he clicks into gear, serious face and answers like a company representative, the same pre prepared responses delivered like a speech. It just grated on me, that's all, I just wanted to hear from a captain who speaks fluently, from the head and not a script like response.

I never got to see the real player and emotion you would see from other captains, and I feel I never got to really know or understand our captain, or maybe the act is just who he is and I don't like it.

Like the lady on the fence who saw first hand, maybe he just is a bit of a wanker.

Great Rational Post that Puts everything in Perspective feathered friend
DCE our Most Capped Manly player , Manly premiership winner and Manly captain has left a legacy of love and respect for most of Manly supporters like us . The only booes he gets is from the handful you can count this forum and Never from a Full capacity crowd on our spiritual ground every time he runs out and leads our Manly team on the field
He will be remembered as one of the Manly Premiership Winning Greats . A Honorable Feat very few Manly players have the Privilege of .
DCE has done it all and at the highest level in the game
He leaves a Great Legacy and may he live a long and heathy life to enjoy the Great Wealth that he has earned with his family
Who ever he continues to play with I will not continue to support him
I never supported The Incomparable Immortal when he went to the Roosters either
But I will Always Respect them and Celebrate them each time our Legendary club Celebrates
All our Great Premiership Winners that Made our Club Great

You've kind of answered your own question -
"I really don’t get a lot of hate projected at him on the site...I am disappointed in the way DCE used the media to say he was leaving the club."
That's where the hate is coming from. I agree, it doesn't need to be hate but it's not hard to 'get' why its there.

I think he's been an excellent player for Manly for many years and I don't hate him, but he did crap all over the club, which showed an absolute lack of class. In the tribal world of professional sport, it's not hard to understand why that's upset a portion of the fan base.
