The Daly Cherrygraph

I believe the marquee player allowance you allude to can be spent on other players. If so, your argument is BS

And a happy morning to you too.

My argument is fact. If Manly spend the long service allowance on another player, yet more proof they never wanted to sign DCE to a 2 year extension

Would have sucked for them if DCE accepted their offer then, wouldn't it. If they didn't want his signature, do you think they would have risked offering him a contract?

LOLOLOL. the Clayton's offer on foxsports after DCE officially told the world he was leaving.
Perhaps if they offered a deal last year when they were supposed to, things may have been different.

Or
a bit like the Tigers offering Galvin a contract when they knew he was never going to sign.
Always easier when you are controlling the narrative.

But now it's great mgt from Mestrov and Spoony to sign Fogarty for 3 years at 250k more than they offered DCE off the salary cap.

That money just comes off our cap .....

Correct. Gives is 300k to retain or sign another player we might not be able to afford otherwise.
It's 300k total per club, not per veteran player.

I don't understand, are you suggesting that we should have offered DCE what we are offering Fogarty in the hope of retaining him ??

a) why would we do that ? we'll just get another 3 years of what we have got the last 10 years. Underwhelming results. What changes in the next 2-3 years that keeping DCE makes a difference to our performances ?

b) would DCE even have accepted it ? it seems to me he thinks someone is stupid enough to continue to pay him top shelf money for middle shelf performance. My opinion is that he had a figure in mind for what he thinks he is worth and we were never going to meet it, so that's why we didn't bother (he most likely already has a deal IMO and is just playing the victim card in the media)

Anyway it's done, he's going. From my point of view it can't happen quick enough. We should have cut our losses 2 years ago after that epic fail of an 8 year contract instead of keeping our head in the sand. My only fear now is that the club do something stupid like offering him some coaching role post playing career as an olive branch.

In relation to your last sentence , I would 110% agree, he’s chosen his path , and that path leads away from the club that started him , made him , paid him and the one that would have nurtured his coaching aspirations.

I’m sure in years to come he’ll still be considered a club legend , and I’m guessing will be nominated as a life member , but there’s no way his future belongs at Brookvale Oval.

I’m still guessing but reckon he’s Bondi bound.

Currently DCE is probably the only one eligible?
Jake and Tom signed his current deal 5 years ago and it expires end of 2026. I am assuming they will need to use it in 2027, especially if they ain't using it on DCE.
Jake and Tom, developed from local juniors and over 8 years continuous service with club would both be eligible for club to receive Veterans Allowance for 2026.

Probably,……. definitely not
Its only 8 years , jake and tom are both eligible . Jakey debut in 13 , tom 15

To be clear from the NRL website this is the definition

Veteran and Developed Player Allowance

Veteran and Developed Player Allowance for eligible players who were either developed by the club prior to becoming NRL players and/or have been a Top 30 player for at least 8 years at the club or have been a Top 30 player for at least 10 years across the game.

Having a look through the current squad (and I am sure I have missed something / someone!)

It would not shock me if part of the long term contracts for players like Haumole factor in when he kicks into his 8th year etc

I am interested in understanding your perspective. You are of the opinion that Manly have botched the negotiations and/or didn’t really want to keep Daly?

I’m not saying you’re wrong, but if you can answer the following questions, it’ll help me understand:

1. Why did Manly want to move him on in the first place?

2. Why did he ask for a release in 2023?

3. Why did he inform the club in December that he would finish up with Manly at the end of 2024?

I’m interested in your thoughts. Personally, I don’t really see Manly as culpable, because I think DCE doesn’t like someone at Manly and has wanted out for some time. Thus, any movement in the cap or allowances are a moot point, because he doesn’t want a contract at Manly anyway.

can I try?
1. Why did Manly want to move him on in the first place?
He's too flaky

2. Why did he ask for a release in 2023?
He thinks the club is flaky

3. Why did he inform the club in December that he would finish up with Manly at the end of 2024?
He hates us all!!!!

I don’t think the paying more for an inferior product (I.e. Fogerty) criticism is fair because I don’t believe Daly signs a deal of any kind at Manly; he wanted out for more than just dollars. He’ll probably get a mil somewhere else anyway but I don’t think Manly were left with a choice. He wasn’t signing for anything with us, so we had no choice but to look elsewhere. The market dictates the values and if that’s why Fogerty is worth on the market, that’s what we have to pay.

😂

1. I don’t think they did.

2. Because he re-signed under Hasler and Manly made a scapegoat of his good friend.

3. He knew a release would not be forthcoming but as soon as the current deal is up, he’s out!
