So because Foran did it in 2015 then that justifies what DCE has done now?

There is a right way and a wrong way to do things, and DCE did it the wrong way for the club and its supporters.

And that's a totally separate issue from him being a great player for the club which most of us agree on.

No. I'm saying Foran left without saying anything to the Manly fans. He just signed with Parra and left. DCE announced his intent so all know ahead of time and this gives Manly time to seek a replacement.. Did Foran think of that? Dont misunderstand, personally I don't give a rat's arse that Foran signed with Parra and did so without letting the fans know. He was taking care of his interests. I mean it is a business and he relies on a short period to make his fortune. Good luck to him. My only gripe was that he left after DCE had signed elsewhere giving Manly little chance of keeping him. Just fortuitous that Fulton intervened. But his decision to leave and in the manner he did is his decision, not ours. I was just pointing out that if you're comparing, DCE was far more honest with us and the club. He let us know and did so with time to seek an alternative. Foran didn't and we suffered without a decent 5/8 for almost a decade.

If you compare it to Foran then it might look better.

But if you compare it to a standard of what you would expect from a veteran of the game, and a long standing club captain, then it falls well short in my opinion.

I know absolutely nothing about DCE's plans or motives. I have no inside information @ all about his reasons or plans. However from the outside looking in it seems unlikely to me that he'll end up @ the Roosters. That leaves either the Dolphins or the Titans. I don't think itll be the Titans as they will struggle to keep their big forwards under the cap space if he insists on a deal more valuable than our offering. So the options are drying up not because of DCE's talent but simply the cap space landscape ATM. So unless there's an offer totally left field I think it'll be the Fins.

The big clincher on him going north, will be a For Sale sign on his front lawn. Then again he could rent it out for the next 2 yrs.

What do you expect? Fulton was our Captain in 1976 and left for Easts and bigger money the next year. I dont recall apologies to the fans. Movement of top players happens all the time. I dont get the difference. He's declared he's leaving. He's done it a year ahead so another player can be obtained and he knows young Walsh is on the rise. He's 37. Most players retire well before that. He's given service to Manly for approaching 15 years. He could have easily gone elsewhere for big money and a side more likely to win a premiership. But he stuck it out. I think you guys are raising the bar way too high. This is a business not a popularity contest. He's working in a business he enjoys and he's damned good at it and has done his best to perform. We should be thanking him for his service and wishing him well instead of YET AGAIN attacking him.

Here's a question for you - do you think what has happened in the last two weeks has been a positive for Manly's 2025 season?

He got very well compensated for his 15 years of “service”. Not sure he could have gone elsewhere for much more over that time. As for a chance at a premiership, as our highest paid player and captain, many would say he should have done more to help us achieve that. I don’t think anyone is looking for an apology, they just feel let down by the way he has chosen to communicate his exit.

Somewhat better than saying nothing. Supporters expecting you to stay and then suddenly you've signed with Parramatta without any comment to fans as Foran did in 2015. Fulton did the same thing in late 1976. Come on. At least DCE comes out and tells us. Sour grapes because he wants to move elsewhere to finish off his carer perhaps for a lot more dollars than on offer is common practice. Kennedy walked out on Newcastle to join Manly at the end of his career. We rave about him but I wonder how Newcastle supporters felt.
one day…maybe…you’ll concede that someone else has a fair point…until then…

Just because others handle a matter poorly … doesn’t mean you need to copy them!

Just sayin’

I'm willing to do that and often do when I see the point being argued with sufficient evidence (if you look LC), if others concede that perhaps I have a good point. Works both ways. I will always concede to another point of view if backed up with good proof of that position, otherwise its all just personal conjecture.

Assuming he wouldn't be receiving a very healthy wage is not well backed up. He endtered a 4 year contract with the Titans for a million a year in 2015. Cronulla, I understand were making an offer not much less. Foran got a million a year joining Parra and the original amount was supposedly according the the media 1.2 million a year. At that time DCE was the No 1 half in the game and remained that until Cleary improved. Thurston had retired. Half is often the best paid position.

Second point is DCE made a comment a year before he is to leave. OK he didn't mention the fans. But what will happen if when he does leave he does thank the club and fans, which is highly likely. He was just announcing intent. How are the critics going to respond then? Seems to me its all about us getting upset because he is leaving. He was considering retiring anyway. And Manly were preparing for that moment. To me its an over reaction emotionally based

Almost as much as he was on at Manly

Maybe more. He was the No 2 half at that time in the game, and Thurston was nearing retirement. Who's to say the Titans wouldn't have counter offered if given the chance. Like most lower ranked clubs, they desperately wanted a high profile player in their ranks to entice others to sign with them. Look what Newcastle were prepared to pay for Dylan Brown, a top five eighth, but hardly yet the best.

But has he handled this improperly or is that just how you see it. He came out and announced to everyone his intent. Didn't try to hide it. Let everyone know his intent clearly. I would suspect he will most likely at some stage later thank the club and supporters for his involvement in the team. I mean he's still playing with us until September. Are we all going to spit the dummy like Parra supporters boo him on the field. We have players contracted with our teams for a set period. That's the agreement. There are no caveats. Loyalty only ever applies when both parties are contented. Fact of life. Get over it.

The Fins have a better half ...imho

It’s got nothing to do with being sour over him leaving, it’s about being pi$$ed off he came out and made a spectacle of himself and the club on national television which has now f***ed this season. And for what? So DCE could drive his price up and claim some imagined moral high ground over the way he is leaving?? Did you see Steve Menzies or the Stewarts or Jamie Lyon on tv making a big song and dance when it was time to go!? Even when some had good reason to

Does it bother you that he didn't mention why he hates Manly so much that as soon as his deal is finished he will never play for us again? (Even though he loves playing, and hopes to keep playing NRL and for Qld.)

Oh, he didn't say he hates Manly? No but that question was left hanging in the air like a rancid fart, to the delight of every media hack in the game.
