The Daly Cherrygraph

that's true, but ancient history.
I've been a fan and defender of DCE but don't understand his media assault at all. Like... "as soon as my contracts over I'm finished with Manly (I won't say why). But Queensland? That's a team I love to play for!"
Sheesh, thanks a bunch Daly.
Exactly. I have no issue with how much money he squeezed out of some dumb Manly officials more than a decade ago. He has been a wonderful player and, until recently, ambassador for our club.
However, the way he disrespected the club and we fans with his unilateral announcement that he won't play again for the Sea Eagles has ruined his reputation in my eyes.
Mistakenly, I thought he was a better man than that. Turns out he's just a spiteful narcissist.

I’m with you , when so many on here lamblasted him from pillor to post , game after game I supported him 110%.

I have zero ( absolutely zero ) issues with him going to a bigger offer at another club , if he can get a 10 million dollar deal with the Rorters good luck to him , we aren’t one of the rich clubs so in my opinion he’d go with my best wishes. I’d be sad , but I’d understand.

But this disrespectful approach to the fans , regardless of what went on behind closed doors just isn’t kosher.

A “ spiteful narcissist “ is not something I’d have written but it’s very apt.

And also signed some 10 or 11 players from the western pathways program who:

-passed away (RIP Keith Titmuss)
-stabbed a bloke after we let Api go to invest in him (Manase)
-never got his fitness up to scratch & so was constantly injured (Schuster)

While the others never really hit any great heights & have all (apart from Olakau’atu & Saab) been moved on & haven’t proven to be stars of the game.

I think there was too much transition within our club’s systems plus the top heavy salary cap of DCE, Turbo & Burbo that has created the situation we find ourselves in today - a starstudded backline with an ordinary pack of forwards who are either out injured or only show fire & hunger occasionally.

I’m hoping with DCE going that it’s the end of Manly being hamstrung by 3 of our players taking up such a large chunk of our cap & that we can go to market & buy a good prop or two, so we can regain balance across our squad.

Lodge & TKO are in the twilight of their careers, Paseka’s hot & cold (& injured), Sipley is also hot & cold & doesn’t appear to be a natural leader & won’t ever take control of our pack IMO.
Summed it up well, you forgot to add in the 900k over 3 yrs that we wasted on Latu Fainu, ended going with his brother Sam to the Tigpies. I sometimes wonder, developing juniors, is it really worth the expense.

I reckon, God help us if these new "messiahs" Walsh and Large fall flat.
Unlike these previous options (the stabbers) they actually have some pedigree of character... Both were Junior Wallabies captains, and from all accounts I've heard, great people. Hoppa was also the captain of our GF-winning Matt's side a few years ago.

The manager for Large is a bit of sticking point though. Played hardball with the Tigers, even though his client was 16 years old, and hadn't stepped on an NRL field. That said, the fact that Ashton followed him to Manly suggests that the family had deeper issues with the Tigers.

SE8 He has carried this side for the past decade. His contract was for 8 years and we dont know what the 2 year extension cost Manly. It wasn't revealed as far as I know. Point is he gave his all for the club and for example compared to Turbo was well worth the money given how long Turbo was out (no fault of Turbo mind you). He's rarely injured and consistently either the best Manly player on the field or in the top two. Members giving points on this site, as well as NRL award givers seem to say this consistently. Not sure what else he was supposed to do.

Now people are again criticizing him for getting on TV to announce he is leaving. Would they prefer to find out from news services after he signs elsewhere as Foran did in 2015. Maybe they'd like a decision to return to NZ on compassionate grounds like AFB did, then a few years later he returns to Cronulla. Maybe they'd prefer someone with a criminal conviction. DCE was open , did not hide behind contract negotiations, yet he is still criticised. Not sure how else he is supposed to let the fans know. Maybe read it in tea leaves.

Interestingly, someone said weeks ago that as a teacher, they could spot his character from the start. It's something you need in teaching to survive from Day One. Another teacher agreed with him.

As a former teacher I can confirm I felt exactly the same, that he was a self serving narcissist from the very beginning.

Yep , the very reason why the last 10 years of his Captaincy have been an abyssmal failure. Leaders need to earn respect from those around them so they will run through brickvwalls for them. This bloke thinks its a right.

Maybe call the club and give them the heads up that he is going on TV that night to make an announcement…maybe wear a club shirt…maybe say that he is devastated to be leaving but it’s a professional game nowadays and these things happen?! Instead, we got an avalanche of subtext that left fans bewildered. Those same fans that have spent their hard earned time and money supporting him.

Low act from Daly.

lol...nahh. There was a number of options that wouldnt have set himself or the club on fire.

Somewhat better than saying nothing. Supporters expecting you to stay and then suddenly you've signed with Parramatta without any comment to fans as Foran did in 2015. Fulton did the same thing in late 1976. Come on. At least DCE comes out and tells us. Sour grapes because he wants to move elsewhere to finish off his carer perhaps for a lot more dollars than on offer is common practice. Kennedy walked out on Newcastle to join Manly at the end of his career. We rave about him but I wonder how Newcastle supporters felt.

All he had to do was say that was what he was doing - "I'm doing what's best for my family" just like Dylan Brown recently said of his move to Newcastle.

Sure there would have been criticism levelled at him but it wouldn't have dragged on for as long as it has - on here you can see most aren't that bothered by the fact that he's actually leaving as it gives us the opportunity to start bringing balance back into the squad by not having his huge contract restricting us.

Instead he's left us all mystified by saying he doesn't know what he will do, when it's patently obvious he's seeking one last big contract. Why be so coy about it all?

Add to that him appearing on 100% footy but not wearing Manly gear & not advising the club beforehand he was going to do so & you have a lot of doubt & uncertainty about what exactly is going on.

Maybe it's a timing thing, why can't these big decisions/announcemets be made at the end or near the end of a season....just sayin'

That's getting really picky there 47. Did Foran do that before he signed for Parramatta. Come on. You're looking for reasons to put him down. No one has responded to my examples of other players. The reasons why he's leaving are irrelevant. He's going full stop and he let us know well ahead that he's going, full stop. Maybe its a dispute he's having with management. Maybe with the coach. Maybe he just wants to try something different. Maybe its a negotiating tactic. Definitely his family is a factor and he's said that in the past often. Its his decision not ours. Words anyone says are just words. Its the action that's important, something a large proportion of Americans have never worked out, voting in their messiah who promises everything and delivers chaos.

So because Foran did it in 2015 then that justifies what DCE has done now?

There is a right way and a wrong way to do things, and DCE did it the wrong way for the club and its supporters.

And that's a totally separate issue from him being a great player for the club which most of us agree on.

I'm not looking for any reason to dislike him, I've been one of his supporters on here oftentimes when others have been putting the boot in. I'm just not happy with how he's gone about this.

Foran was criticised heavily for what he did & was also accused of dogging it for his final season here. Subsequent events that showed his mental health wasn't the best for several years afterwards somewhat softened that criticism of him & he essentially redeemed himself when he came back to Manly.

AFB was criticised heavily for using the 'compassionate grounds' card to leave Manly but that was 4 years ago. We (Manly fans) got over it & couldn't care less who else he does it to (NZ) - at least, that's my attitude towards it.

Fulton was before my time so I can't comment on the circumstances of his departure.

Why would Kennedy leaving Newcastle to come to Manly be of any concern to Manly fans at how Newcastle felt about it?

The issue isn't about having an altruistic attitude & thinking "oh well, Dylan Brown has done this to Parramatta so we can't have any feelings about it".

The issues are that he hasn't said why he's leaving, the manner in which he did it, & his fanning of the flames by implying there is a smear campaign against him from within the club.
