The Daly Cherrygraph

No doubt Sundays game will all be focused on the 2 players who've just taken over the first 4 weeks of the season in Brown and Chez. I just want our team to put all this crap behind them (if they haven't already), and play like a united team by putting on a great performance and smashing the slime, showing the NRL world that no matter what you throw at this club, whether you're a high profile player or not, the MWSE will always be triumphant. 🦅

Maybe by the media ..... to me it is a made up concept to sell advertising and hype.
Thank you for your post feathered friend

SOO is not made by the media . It is made by the Best quality players available from each state .
This is why it is the best quality contest

It is mate v mate and state v state and there is a lot at stakes for the biggest grudge match of the each year .
This is why it is the best rating game .

Difficult, if he's potentially a good coach, maybe he'd win us a trophy, we'd all love him again, and then pull a De$$ie and chase dollars elsewhere, leaving us devastated once again. Would he even be a good coach? Premiership winning coaches need to mould their team to work as a one, for each other. Chez's form is himself before the team.
I'm wondering if someone like Choc could develop into a good coach for us?
I don't think choc would want to be a coach

Who says he's a good coach or if he's going to be a good coach.**** him, He would cost us a fortune and imo is too self-centred to be a coach.
DCE will never want to be a head coach - it's too thankless a role for him. And he is not suited to be one regardless. Guys like Ballin, Foz, Croker - worker types with team-first attitude, loyalty to their mates etc not just communication skills are the right pedigree for inspiration

1. As for the way he’s handled this, it’s smart. By controlling when and how this news came out, he’s shaped the media narrative to his advantage. And let’s be honest, if the Roosters threw an extra $500k at most players, they’d at least consider it. It’s a business move, and he’s played it well.

2, Looking ahead, Manly’s long-term future is strong. Next year might be a bit of a grind with some young players still developing, but the club has most key pieces locked in. The priority should be securing Galvin, letting Brooks steer the ship for a few seasons, and by the time he moves on, someone like Joey Walsh could be ready to step up. If things go to plan, Manly could be setting up another DCE/Foz-style halves pairing for the future.
Welcome on Board feathered friend
Great first up post effort that brings quality to our forum .
Looking forward to your passionate Manly posts

My perspective view to your 2 keys post points
1.The smartest people are in control of every situation
The smartest people understand who they negotiate with and how they best handle them
Smart people read people and are one step ahead of them and stay in control .
If Mestrov was smart he would have known that money motivates DCE;s Management
If Mestrov was smart he would have known the club was never prepared to offer DCE Elite money
If Mestrov was smart he would have ended the Negotiations as soon as he anticipated a DCE Management Move . He would have Fronted the Media with the Manly captain like CEOs do and thanked him for his great contribution to the Manly club and explain that the club is in no position to offer the Elite money he was worth . Mestrov would have eliminated any of this Manly Media Saga
But unfortunately Mestrov did it his way . Unnecessary prolonging the inevitable .
Mestrovs desperate and most Embarrassing Knee jerk reaction late night Contract offer to DCE on Late night NRL fox Gossip TV was the most amateurish act from a CEO .

2 .You can take Brooks out of the Tigers But you can not take the Tiger out of Brooks
Brooks could not steer the Tigers to a finals game in the decade he was there .
Tigers do not change their stripes

Is there anyone on this site gunna be embarrassed for tearing this guys nuts off if/when he JUST retires from playing with us and maybe takes a development/coaching role with us? It's a chance.
YES it could've been handled better by both parties but the guy doesn't deserve this kicking IMHO. And if you boo someone with our jersey on then you should be ashamed and relinquish your so-called support of our wonderful club. Just keep an open mind rather than just forming opinions based on conjecture and so-called journalism

Thanks my friend. Just a passionate Manly supporter here, probably coming at things from a different angle, maybe because I’m a bit younger than most on here (not saying you guys are old!).

I completely agree, the club calling on live TV like that was amateur. If Mestrov saw Chez’s contract demands coming, especially with our tight salary cap, he should have addressed it early. But looking at what Seibold said today, I’d guess Mestrov was trying to keep the speculation under control, hoping Chez might change his mind by Round 6. In the end, him announcing it live might have just forced his hand.

As for Brooks, you’re right, he’s not a game manager we saw that against Souths last year. My take is that Galvin should take on more of a free-flowing 7 role, similar to how DCE plays, while Brooks plays a steadier hand on his edge with his left-foot kicking game. Galvin would be my first pick, but I get the idea of bringing in a more experienced half on a cheaper deal short term, then focusing on strengthening the forward pack.

Plenty to think about, but that’s a 2026 problem!

It came out of his mouth. This will be my last year at manly. I want to continue playing nrl... dont think anyone will be embarrassed. Unless all his options fold....

After thinking about this situation for a few days and comparing it to my own working life, I have come to a possible reason for his departure.

Being at the same place for so long (my job for almost 40 years) maybe he has seen too much change and is a bitter with some aspects of the organisation and feels under appreciated, so he wants to go out and ruffle a few feathers.

Maybe he is bitter at the management/coaching or even team mates, some of whom are 15 years younger than him.

I know in my job if I could get out I would, but at my age I need to let the clock run out until retirement. The workplace is no longer the place it once was.

That was just media BS. The journos/show hosts texted Penn and Mestrov to ask the club what the deal was. They replied that they'd offered him the 1.5 over 2 years. This happened that Monday morning.
It was not the case of the club hierarchy calling the television show. That just made a better, Manly bagging story.

I won't hold anything against him whilst he is playing for us. If he goes to the roosters I won't care much about that either.

Never liked the guy nor his ability. The way he plays footy is the way he is off it. It's his brand. He plays off the cuff footy and does things to make DCE look good. Doesn't control the game. Kick to corners.. etc he goes for a chip kick for himself when it's not on.

He said he made this decision because of the media attention from d his contract? Doesnt want to distract the team with his contract dragging on. Laughable. There was one article. Most people assumed he'd stay at Manly. Not enough interest in the DCE brand. He's driving up his price.. bidding wars.. just like he did 10 years ago. Look what hes created now. Proper media frenzy every week now until he signs. This is distracting for your team mates. He doesnt care. He's looking after brand DCE. That's all well and good but done lie and say otherwise. Hes full of ****.. like he was years ago. Thankfully he only had one contract to deal with in the last 10 years. He will end up at roosters who will give him a tv deal. No way he hasn't signed something already.. if he gets injured.. nobody will touch him.. big risk.

I cant wait to see the back of him. Yes I'm well aware I'm in the minority.. but glad some of yall have seen the light. There was a reason why real manly legends didn't like him.. Cam Smith Slater etc...

Hes proper damaged the Manly brand he supposedly loves. Again. Please...
You are kidding yeah?

Tell me again what he did to damage the Manly brand?

Just so we can be clear tell me whats not the true in the following list....

He came into a stacked side and won a Premiership as a rookie.

he wanted and got a contract upgrade. which put the nose out of joint of some older players.

He got us to another big dance with a side full of about to retire legends where he was crowned the best on ground.

He left to the titans BECAUSE the CLUB chose Foran.

Foran was the one Screwed the Club on purpose.

The club realising what a ****show they created offered DCE a huge contract to backflip.

DCE backflips and with the golden era coming to a close the sea eagles go through the inevitable rebuild signing some pretty ordinary players.

Many sack club Legend Toovey and employ a complete loser in TB who nearly takes manly to its first spoon. The great TB tries to reinvent DCE's game to more of a Thurston type which doesn't work at all well.

Des returns in 2019 and DCE finds some form again. Des takes a rag tag bunch minus turbo deep into the finals where we were robbed again against the bunnies.

2020 covid strikes and our entire gameplan was screwed by the PVL rule changes.

2021 rolls around and after a slow start we have a great year, this coincides with Turbo having a blinder.

During the DES years and Seibold time DCE has perhaps been our most consistent player and worth every penny.

Most other coaches would take him in a flash.

Manly decide not to offer a deal and instead to wait and see if someone else does first. it transpires the Club was shopping DCE around in 2024.

We all know what happens next.

So looking at facts to say DCE was the worst thing to happen to the club ever is a bit rich.

You obviously dislike the gut and that's cool. Hell I hate Seibold but at least i will admit when he does well or is heading in the right direction.

Oh and to say he was disliked by our club legends is one thing. To use cam smith, Thurston and co as backup for the DCE hate stinks. they were and still are absolute wankers.
