I keep thinking this DCE is as much about feeding traditional and social media as anything else. This has happened to Manly before with Hasler, Fulton and Lyons all not offered new contracts. World didn't end.

After 257 games for the Manly club over 12 seasons, Manly did not offer Hasler a contract beyond 1996. Feeling he still had something to offer Hasler then signed with the Western Suburbs Magpies for the 1997 season.

Every contract negotiation bar one has been a public distraction, carried out in such selfish fashion as teammates and organisations were tossed into a ditch while DCE scoured the landscape for extra dollars.

His resume in division and betrayal is a beauty. He fractured our last great premiership winning team by demanding two contract upgrades through the press, screwed over a club legend in Geoff Toovey, paraded himself with wifey outside the Sharks club before betraying the Gold Coast Titans in his ongoing charade, and now he has saved his finest work for round 3 of this year, a DCE masterpiece in publicly pooing upon the club he captains and has received 13 million dollars from.

Is it any wonder he was hated by legendary SOO players who saw him as disloyal, or the fact he became a Qld player booed by Queenslanders. DCE is a very good footy player. Sadly, DCE is an immortal at scheming and lying when contract time arrives. How I wish it was the other way around.

Taking all the spin away this comes down Manly not being able to afford him. It is that simple. If Dylan Brown is going to get paid 1.3 million next year surely DCE is worth closer to 1.5 million on a 2 year contract. The best we could do is offer him half that. It is really a lot to ask or expect someone to take those kind of unders. Very very few would do this. I think the club however would have been stupid to offer him another million $ plus contract and sacrifice more up and coming talent. The ugly aspect of this is how it has been handled from both sides. An example of text book stupidity…again from both sides ( DCE and the club) ….but it’s time to move on.

1 club making a stupid over pay decision doesn’t affect the entire market. DCE is certainly not $1.5 million or Cleary would be worth $2.5 million. Newcastle were desperate & have made a silly decision

On the positive side… if this scenario doesn’t motivate the team to pull off a surprise premiership this year, then we were never getting any closer over these two seasons retaining DCE and the status quo.

I feel aggrieved about how he announced his intentions on TV as it was a slap in the face for the fans who've supported him for 13+ years. He could've handled this a whole lot better and I wrongly thought he had more class.

I don't deny he's given his all to the club and been paid for it. I am not angry because he's still very good and going, nor that he might go to the roosters, and nor that he might win a premiership. I don't care where he goes.

Fair enough.

I feel aggrieved that the club has cocked it up again. It's not the first time and won't be the last.

Just think about it. It's not just DCE and Hasler. Matai won't have anything to do with the club. Other former players were pissed as well.

He's going so as long as he puts in for the rest of the year then great. If not we have a problem.

Nice pipe dream but may as well put this season in the bin if you do that.
Don't forget DCE would have support from at least some of the players, who know pro sport is ruthless and their careers are on the line every time they take the field.

And Penn and co also see this as a business. If they dropped him and we started crashing out, the corporate sponsors would not be thrilled. I'm sure they still need us to turn up to the ground on game day. So unless something really goes sideways, he won't be dropped.

If he’s checked out already ( possible ) and just refuses to do anything but the very basics on field, I’d 100% support that.

The 2 years is really meaningless ( important for the Chooks ) to Dollar Chasing Evans , it’s about the total deal , the coaching , the media.

I’ve said many times , it’ll be worth 10-13 million , could be a little less but I’d say at least 10.

And I cannot blame him for going that route one little bit.

But just stop the ****ing charade that’s gone on this last week, that’s what’s making me angry.
