He's leeched somewhere between $11 -$13 million over the last decade for what , zero return. Worst decade in the club's history. Not all his fault admittedly because we were stupid enough to pay it. Now we want to throw more money at him for another 2 years while we let guys like Humphreys and Fainu walk. i love how we all see players as people that should be happy with their lot and never ever want more. what's an average NRL career? 15 years tops? probably more like 8 or 9 then its done. if any of us could honestly say we would be happy with a 50% pay cut at the age of 35 then you are lying or an idiot. Careers can be over in a blink of an eye. look at the yowye bloke from the broncs. Next big thing and snap. gone.
Now obviously DCE is in a different situation but he still has a family and still has bills and 3 kids ti raise. I will be really sad to see him go but this screams of another Manly cockup.
I dont think all is well between DCE and Seibold by the sounds of it and Manly dicking around since December has forced DCEW to get out in front of this publicly.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting a different result.

If we want to have a shot at winning a comp, we need a game manager type to better utilise our "weapons".

I'd be excited to see something different tbh.

Don't forget young inexperienced playmakers only work in a side with genuine experienced superstars across the board. Manly when DCE and FOZ as an example. we are not that side at the moment. Be careful what you wish for mate. you might just get it and another 5 year rebuild.

After watching D C E :s interview and his claim that he made a call last December to not re sign with Manly and not notifying the club at that stage or thereabouts , just does not seem to stack up in the credibility stakes in terms of not having some alternative considerations or fairly firm options as a fall back position .
Also , must have been fairly apparent to him or his manager by that stage that the club was mainly intent on just offering a future one season or initial one season deal .
Just seems inconceivable or irrational why he or his manager would not have relayed this supposed definite position in December , all things considered .
As is usually the case in these type of matters , probably a bit of truths and half truths from all parties but again just seems very odd that he did not make it clear to the club last December what his actual intentions were .
Brinkmanship or no brinkmanship aside .
Quite sure that there would have been still a quite respectable amount of money from Manly in the 700 - 800 K range for at least one season , so again it just seems to come back to that two year option and that is D C E "s and his managers prerogative in the professional context .
So no issue there , just again the way D C E has chosen to spin the matter in a more favorable light for him .
Anyway , of course will create some level of distraction and hopefully just for a limited time in a footy sense and the means for the side to still be competitive and put in for the remainder of the season .
That is what really matters of course and not some melo drama or speculative issues with admittedly a high profile and accomplished Manly player who would have only been with the club in normal circumstances for only one or two more seasons all things normal

There's a thing called a salary cap. And when certain players take up a majority of it, you can only recruit players next to them of certain calibre. The players on the big money are meant to impact the game. Dce isn't as good as everyone has talked him up to be. Touch footy player, that can kick a drop goal and talk like a politician. Nothing more, nothing less.

Why not simply tell Mestrov/Penn he's made a decision, it's final, so they could make a joint announcement?
the only reason I can think of is so DCE can have a bombshell debut on channel 9, At the expense of the club looking stupid!

It would seem that all of you are either in two camps

1) the club & Mestrov have royally screwed this and it’s all their fault , Daly is a god and should be treated like one.

OR

2) Dalys a Diva, he’s playing this beautifully to create his media persona, whilst ditching the club who gave him a start , and a record 10 year contract , for what quite clearly is a monster two year deal with the Roosters , which will involve coaching post retirement and a walk up start at Channel 9.

Not sure there’s a third option but happy to hear one.
