The Daly Cherrygraph

The dumbest part of the whole charade is that DCE is worth more today than he was in 2015. He is in career best form.

So, the 8 years where he was the highest paid player in the competition courtesy of MWSE, occupying 16% of the 30-man salary cap, meaning that we had much less bandwidth to build a quality squad around him, ergo needed to rely more on star rookies and budget buys than other clubs... means nothing now?

This is what rubs me the wrong way... now that he is on a lower base salary and the NRL salary cap is higher, we are finally building towards having quality talent across the park so that we can actually challenge for a premiership... and this disrespectful public shakedown happens, from the club captain no less.

I refuse to believe that the club has acted unreasonably here.

This "crew" realistically, has only been the owner of this club, namely Scott Penn and his earlier co-horts, not the current CEO, so I will agree with you, in part on that comment.

DCE was offered a 1 + 1 year deal being a full year with an option in favour of the club for an amount of money equal too the first year of the extension.

Now, DCE knows full well there are 3 clubs who will offer 25% more than what was offered (and it wasn't 400k or even 600k it was more), so there's zero need for him to stay.

I'm a DCE fan but as a poster said earlier, his conduct and the ensuing circus is beyond selfish.

Stay, go, just be a man and make a decision either way.

Negotiations are always a game of financial chess and DCE is brilliant at it and good on him for being able to play the game, better than most.

The NRL's cerebral assassin.
Honestly, I’m a huge DCE fan and I’d be upset to see him in another clubs colours, but seriously, I am so over these publicly drawn-out contract negotiations with this man. First was in 2012, then who could forget 2015.. and here we are again. Stay if you want to, leave if you want to. But remember, this will be your legacy and nobody else’s.

I'm hoping we can find a halfback who can remain composed and can grind it out. Doesn't have to kick as many field goals or 40/20s, but if Manly can grind out wins then I think that's great. I think unfortunately since DCE has been captain we have lost more games against worse or even equal opposition than we should've. Part of that is definitely with the squad, part with the coaching, but part of it lies with DCE and his preference for the low percentage plays.

Imagine DCE playing for Melbourne. Probably would have won another 3 - 4 premierships, as forwards and defense lay the platform for premiership winners - something Manly coaches and recruitment have not been able to do.

Yeah but he would've been paid less.

It's flawed logic to call it a team sport and then talk about us only being in the conversation because of DCE. It's exactly because it's a team sport that we should not be going all out for just the one player.

No one is excited at the prospect of him leaving, but paying too much for a half just means less for the rest of the team and the rest of the quality of the team suffers.

I had hoped that DCE would have been happy with what he has been paid over the years and would maybe look to cement his legacy at Manly with a last crack at a premiership by signing a friendly contract with us so we can actually build a better team around him to compete. But that dream is obviously now in the dust.
Not quite...his track record, performances, durability, and representative honours in what is a highly decorated career, point to a logic that suggests he is 'value added' more so a hinderance on performance in the last 15 years.

I am guessing he will stay at Manly. Manly should come to the party. He’s a special player. But yet again the big money goes round and round.
