The Daly Cherrygraph

If Dce truly wanted to leave, I wouldn't get in his way as much as I want him to remain a 1 club player.

The fact of the matter is for the last 10 years we've had negligible success and like it or not one of the reasons is that we've had too much of our salary cap tied up in his contract.

The opening 3 rounds despite the blow out wins have not filled me with any kind of confidence that we are anywhere near a premiership and if it's not happening in the next 2 years, what is the point of paying overs for a 38 year old halfback?

Bye bye cherry if it really is about money shows what its been about for him his entire career. Your at the end of your career and still trying for every last dollar which screws up the strength of our squad to win a comp . If it truly is whats going on im over it.
Remember back when all the old boys got shafted when chez started his career maybe they weren't wrong when they came out and said what chez was like . Dissapointing!

The ‘we’ve won nothing with DCE’ argument is some seriously flawed logic. Why? Because it’s a team sport. Players don’t win as individuals. There are so many other variables to why we’ve haven’t won a competition since he became the top dog. Spin it the right way round and we’ve remained in the conversation for many years because of him. Without an elite half, yet with those same other variables, we regularly miss the finals and probably challenge for the spoon.

Imagine Jamie Humphreys at 7 against the Dogs in last year’s semi final?! DCE scored a brilliant individual try and rolled the dice on the 5th tackle for Koula’s try. He kicked us out of trouble all afternoon. We are not going to get anything close to the quality he can bring in the next two years, yet some of us are excited at that prospect?! Bizarre.

Imagine DCE playing for Melbourne. Probably would have won another 3 - 4 premierships, as forwards and defense lay the platform for premiership winners - something Manly coaches and recruitment have not been able to do.

Never let the facts get in the way of a bs story.

Remember it wasn't DCE that caused 2015, it was the lying scumbag Foran telling Manly he would sign, point blank lying to Manly as he was going to Parra.
DCE agreed to a deal, then they pulled it and offered him less. DCE never wanted to leave, but Manly pushed him to look elsewhere due to mgt incompetence.

Seems mgt incompetence is still alive at Manly.
Yeah Foz real estate shopping in the hills district in the off season but swears he hadn't "signed" anything but he did have a handshake deal with BA....this set the dominoes to fall when the season started.....and Choc and his mates blamed DCE because he didn't "party" with them

He has been one of the highest paid players for a decade and his club record in making and winning big games is shocking. The club can’t and won’t win anything with him. Let the selfish game player go and rebuild. You obviously adore him that’s nice. I’m club first. I don’t blindly follow players. He has been paid extremely well and he behaves like this. Imploding the season before it starts. Could u imagine Tom doing this or beaver? No because they are money hungry manipulators. DCE is not a club first guy. That’s all. Manly should move on and not look back

Didn't Menzies go to Catalans?

Might be better if you moved on & didn’t look back.

I have cherry picked this one out of your post as it’s all about balancing the dollars in the cap as well, as it’s been alluded to DCE is well aware of how much an experienced seven would get on the open market, Manly may not be able to match it without sacrificing another area of the squad.

The below is more of a reflection on how strong well balanced clubs have had success in finals than how good the individual player is, I would like DCE to stay as he is a very good player still, though at what price for me 700-800K.

List of NRL halfbacks sorted by finals wins since 2015:

Nathan Cleary 17
Cooper Cronk 12
Adam Reynolds 8
Jahrome Hughes 7
Michael Morgan 7
Chad Townsend 5
Ben Hunt 5
Jonathan Thurston 4
Mitch Moses 4
Aidan Sezer 3
Daly Cherry-Evans 3

Love dce, don't want him to go anywhere.... BUT.. he's 36... Who in their right mind throws money at a 36 year old at the possible expense of the next up and coming player that could lead the team for the next 10 years.... I'm happy to keep him for a reduced salary, it's lunacy to offer him overs to stay when he's at the end of his career and there are up and comers waiting in the wings

Who’Da thought all these years later we’d be going through the same situation as we had with the Titans deal.

Yeah I think DCE is an absolute master at manipulating things to suit his needs.

He’ll probably stay and we’ll be paying double what he’s getting now, and we’ll only be able to sign players from the Moree Boomerangs as a result.

It's flawed logic to call it a team sport and then talk about us only being in the conversation because of DCE. It's exactly because it's a team sport that we should not be going all out for just the one player.

No one is excited at the prospect of him leaving, but paying too much for a half just means less for the rest of the team and the rest of the quality of the team suffers.

I had hoped that DCE would have been happy with what he has been paid over the years and would maybe look to cement his legacy at Manly with a last crack at a premiership by signing a friendly contract with us so we can actually build a better team around him to compete. But that dream is obviously now in the dust.

There is something really off about our club captain and the elder statesman of our club wanting to play out a final deal in public and also under the veil of secrecy. There is also something wrong with the club letting it get to this point. Cherry has his shortcomings and as a player has filled me with joy and in equal measures frustrated the **** out of me. We are not gonna find anyone of equal ability for the window we haveand will probably end up with Jamal fogharty

Some sentiment, goodwill and a dash of pragmatism from both sides Would have stopped this from happening.

But let’s face it, DCE seems to love this kind of manoeuvring, just not a great trait in a club captain
