The Daly Cherrygraph

Is this 2015 or 2025, we've been through this before, problem now is DCE would have probably stayed with us for 200k less than what other clubs are prepared to pay, however now with the management backflip we probably have to meet what the others offer or perhaps more, what a total fark up
No, just the club trying not to overspend on the only player in the nrl that was born in the 1980’s. It will be portrayed as Manlys fault either way. If he re signs we will be called idiots for overpaying him like we were for the 8 year contract and if he goes we will be called idiots for letting him go. Its a lose lose for us and a win win for him.

leopards and spots. He did this in 2015 and here we are again with this bloke playing cute media games. We are all of 3 rounds in and this guy is happy to stoke the uncertainty and unsettled the group. Seriously this side isn’t winning the comp of going close with DCe. Let him walk and spend the money on some young forwards. Once gone there is no coaching gig at manly. It’s not what you do it’s how you do it and DCE just likes to play games. Very selfish man. See u in a roosters jumper

This "crew" realistically, has only been the owner of this club, namely Scott Penn and his earlier co-horts, not the current CEO, so I will agree with you, in part on that comment.

DCE was offered a 1 + 1 year deal being a full year with an option in favour of the club for an amount of money equal too the first year of the extension.

Now, DCE knows full well there are 3 clubs who will offer 25% more than what was offered (and it wasn't 400k or even 600k it was more), so there's zero need for him to stay.

I'm a DCE fan but as a poster said earlier, his conduct and the ensuing circus is beyond selfish.

Stay, go, just be a man and make a decision either way.

Negotiations are always a game of financial chess and DCE is brilliant at it and good on him for being able to play the game, better than most.

The NRL's cerebral assassin.
I’ll tell you what, that is a very good post, and takes me back to the early days of Silvertails and good debate this site was built on

The current CEO, I’m not so sure, I personally wasn’t a fan at all of the whole Hasler saga and the way it was operated. The overall decision can be debated, I wasn’t a fan of the process they followed. Mestrov I also didn’t find highly impressive on James Grahams Roundtable podcast

If your info is correct, for a 300+ gamer, I think we could have offered the respect of year 2 being in his favour, rather than the clubs

Totally disagree. All you DCE haters are about to find out how hard life will be without a decent half back. Good playmakers are as rare as rocking horse poo. A planned/controlled phase out of the DCE era was our only hope of really moving forward without ripping the backbone right out of our group. He's still as fit and strong as any 30 year old. Say goodbye to any hope of silverware in the medium term. I'm devastated by this.
People thinking we are just gonna replace an Origin and Australian standard halfback is deluded…

DCE has certainly taken some lessons from Des on how to play contracts!

If he ever ends up in coaching, he will be Des 2.0, in basically every metric. He'll get us a premiership, or success at the least, down to his great intelligence, but then put us on our arses with backstabbing moves.

None of the Trbojevics would pull this crap! They'll go down as club heroes no matter what.

A media group says his leaving so we all believe what the media says now
Management say they offered him a contract
DCE hasn’t said anything yet
It will play out eventually
Whatever happens happens
No good speculating till we here from DCE himself
The fact he was uncertain whether he was playing a month ago and now wants 2 years says it all about DCE. Master manipulator

Thanks Kiwi Eagle, I appreciate the sentiment behind your post 😊

It’s clearly not a media beat up because Mestrov and Penn have come out and said they’ll offer two years…if it was a beat up, they wouldn’t bother responding.

My guess is they hoped he would take whatever he was given (like Reynolds at Souths) and DCE said he wanted two years and Manly thought they could sleep on negotiations. Now the likes of the Chooks have swooped in with two years, big money, post football options and it’s Cronk 2.0.

Mestrov and Penn have ****ed it, and they can get ****ed

Seriously, this bloke has given plenty to the club, no off field dramas, always available, granted he has had plenty in return as well, and they wouldn’t come to the table with something respectful.

They can find contracts for dickheads like Lodge though
Mate i am definitely not a Penn fan. But if you think DCE has given plenty to the club you don’t realise he has been overpaid by Manly for 2/3rds of his contract. DCE is a great player and a good person but he is 100% transactional, he goes to the highest bidder in every contract, he shows zero loyalty to any club or even sport without considerable compensation. So I don’t believe its the club at fault here, they need to be very careful not to overspend on him or it could ruin us for years after he goes.

Anthony Watmough right now!

The Roosters and one other Sydney Club were up to their necks in negotiations well, well before, this broke out.

DCE has just accelerated his needs on both sides of the table and now the Club is responding to his "ways".

As I've said before, DCE is a master at using the media to ensure his matter are given the focus that he wants and believes warrants.

His control of the narrative is exceptional.
