The Daly Cherrygraph

Who started spruiking that narrative was it channel 9 or Fox? That could be part of what weidler was saying he’s asked for proof from manly an emails. He is saying manly is lying.

Maybe that was part of the so called “smear campaign” maybe he never asked for an early release? Maybe he did?

All I know is that I hope this doesn’t derail our season. I hope it galvanises the boys, I worry what might happen for the next few. We’ve got five years to win one this decade, our best chance is right now to keep our record intact.
I'm pretty sure the smear campaign refers to DCE leaving for more money; he seemed to say as much yesterday. I doubt the club would be dumb enough to tell a blatant lie about a player asking for a release if they never did. Imagine just dreaming that up out of the clear blue sky...doubt it. The misleading information seemed to concern chasing more money and/or an additional second year. It might come out that DCE is going to the Dolphins or Titans for family reason, hence the 'smear campaign' that he's chasing $$$.

Yeah nah.
He represents the club well on the field and did so on Sunday. He must play and be supported.
He has said he likes the club in his post match and the club have said mestrov and seibold are good with him.
He has given the club 12 months notice, people welcomed foz back and he purposely set out to fuk the club by hiding his deal with the eels, then leaving us high and dry.
Des was welcomed back after he left the club in our moment of triumph, heck he had even sued the club.
Its clearly NOT about money or it would be the club saying we can't pay his asking price of $x million and need to go with youth. There was no price.
So it's about someone else at the club that is caused DCE to want to leave.

We all say the media are all bullcrap but then buy it all up without thinking.
So what about the Mestrov interview on ABC yesterday? He specifically mentions $$

DCE won’t turn the Roosters fortunes around. Maybe it is his intention to make the situation untenable so he can leave! I don’t know but If so he should fu<k right off now so the club & team can get on with the season.
He doesn't care about turning their fortunes around, he wants his fortunes increased no matter where he is.

Well said

The club are way better than releasing confidential emails to journalists and the journalists know that. No club would do that you would lose the playing groups trust and that would be disastrous.
But willing to put out “unofficial” info about how much Chez was asking for, length of contract, sought release etc etc?
As posters have pointed out, if this stuff was known by journos previously then it would have been headlines… are we supposed to believe that multiple journos have all made this stuff up in the last week? Or is the club in damage control and throwing Chez to the wolves?

“Too professional to produce proof” is a convenient position… particularly when Chez can’t prove that things DID NOT occur… ie. you can’t produce a contract not offered , a release not sought, a length of contract argument that did not occur…

Chez has laid down the gauntlet and the club should pick it up and whack him with it… if they actually do have any ammo…

Daly Cherry-Evans will make a shock code-switch from rugby league to rugby union, in a huge coup for Rugby Australia following his acrimonious impending split with the Manly Sea Eagles.

Cherry-Evans revealed last week that he would be departing the Sea Eagles at the end of the 2025 season, having played over 300 games for the club including their 2011 premiership success and served as captain since 2017.

It was initially speculated that he would join the Sydney Roosters; however, The Roar can exclusively reveal Rugby Australia and the Queensland Reds approached the 36-year old’s management over the weekend and offered a monster five-year contract worth an estimated $1.4 million a year for him to change maroon for gold.

Cherry-Evans is set to confirm the bombshell move at a joint press conference with RA CEO Phil Waugh and Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt on Tuesday afternoon (AEDT).

The deal will take him past the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia, where he is set to play a key role.

The approach was borne out of fears for the Wallabies’ No.9 stocks for the prestige tournament, with 31-year old Jake Gordon and 34-year old Nic White as well as the younger Tate McDermott the primary scrum-half options used through coach Schmidt’s tenure thus far.

Cherry-Evans’ standing as one of the NRL’s greatest modern halfbacks, as well as outstanding leadership credentials as captain of both the Sea Eagles and Queensland’s State of Origin team, plus his continued excellent form despite his age, proved irresistible for RA officials, who pounced on the opportunity when the veteran’s desire to depart Manly became known.

“This is a significant signing for Australian rugby,” an RA insider told The Roar.

“On the back of an outstanding start to the Super Rugby Pacific season for our Australian teams, plus the significant strides the Wallabies made under Joe [Schmidt] in 2024, we are confident our plan for the 2027 World Cup will bear fruit.”

At the Reds, Cherry-Evans will serve as a scrum-half partner for co-captain – and soon-to-be Wallabies teammate – McDermott, with rising young gun Kalani Thomas a chance to be switched to a wing.

The move to Queensland is an unexpected homecoming for the Redcliffe native, who famously reneged on a deal to join the Gold Coast Titans in 2015 to re-commit to the Sea Eagles, which saw him branded a ‘filthy cockroach’ by local media.

In a further twist, Cherry-Evans is expected to debut for the Wallabies before playing a single Super Rugby Pacific match for the Waratahs, with Schmidt keen to select him in the starting side for September’s Bledisloe Cup Tests against the All Blacks, his final two matches as coach.

The first Bledisloe Test is scheduled for Saturday September 27 at Eden Park.

That plan has infuriated Sea Eagles officials, given the Bledisloe series coincides with the NRL’s preliminary final and grand final weekends; however, when asked about the clash by Manly coach Anthony Seibold should the Sea Eagles reach the prelim stage, Cherry-Evans reportedly said it was ‘unlikely to be a problem’ before laughing for 43 seconds.

Having been reportedly frustrated with a low-ball offer to remain at the Sea Eagles, Cherry-Evans’ management told The Roar that Rugby Australia’s keen interest in his services for the long-term, as well as the chance to play for a Queensland-based club, played just as much a part in the stunning code-swap as the significant money involved.

“Daly is excited about a fresh challenge at this stage of his career, and them seeing him play such a big part in the Wallabies’ future really swayed him into taking the leap,” a source told The Roar under condition of anonymity.

“The Queensland factor was a big part – Daly now gets a chance to play for the state more than just three times a year.

“When we first got the call from Phil [RA CEO Phil Waugh] asking whether he was interested in a move over, we honestly thought it was an April Fool’s Day joke!

“Then we discovered that it was.”

I thought I heard this morning he has signed to a 2 year deal with the storm and been offered a few brown paper bags

DCE knows exactly what he is doing, he is actually a master negotiator. He showed with his own contract and in his role in negotiations for the RLPA that he is willing to go all in and risk everyone hating him to get his preferred outcome, DCE will roll around in the mud with pigs if he needs to. Him feeding this rubbish that he wasn't expecting media to go into overdrive and he was naive and thought it would blow over after a day is garbage, he is anything but naive. He went in to CH9 without the clubs knowledge to either start a bidding war or give the illusion he is still undecided to protect his legacy, which he did. All this garbage about Manly not offering contracts, off with the coach and ceo etc is a convenient narrative to allow him to say it's not his fault. He has used his management to give the club vague commitments, pretending to be retiring so Manly left him alone to decide and now through his manager he is using the clubs respect against them, he gets the manager to tell the lies keeping him safe from scrutiny. He want's a million but he knows Manly can't afford to pay it and it will more than likely be with 3rd parties at Roosters or Dolphins so he will be able to pretend he left for less on his contract value and it wasn't about money. I firmly believe the way he ignited more of a media circus calling some random boogie man out for a smear campaign straight after everything went well with the win and the respect he received. He knew that would start the media off again and I believe he did that because he is agitating for an immediate release and he knows the only way is to make himself out to be the victim in an untenable situation otherwise he will look like such an are-soul and for leaving his teammates. He sought a release early last year and the club refused it, now he will play a game of deceit to try and frustrate Manly hierarchy into getting rid of him, misleading fans to protect his legacy. I don't care that he is leaving, but i am angry that he is trying to torch the club on his way out, right when we finally have a chance of winning a premiership.

110%

I truly hope the club is not at the centre of this so called smear campaign. Like what would they expect to gain out of it? DCE is going end of story. Why would the club want this to continue in the media? Someone is lying big time.
Managers are lying for DCE so his reputation is at arms length. DCE would be aware but would be kept far enough out of the loop so he is protected. Its obvious they were always going to market and he was leaving but gave Manly the run around to frustrate them into leaving him alone to decide, then suddenly an about face, Manly are blindsided by the Ch9 appearance and wanted to let fans know they were trying to keep him, hence the call to 360. It was amateurish but it was also to show that they were genuine in their interest. Weidler is naturally going to double down and everyone else associated with DCE's manager Whebe.

The ‘we’ve won nothing with DCE’ argument is some seriously flawed logic. Why? Because it’s a team sport. Players don’t win as individuals. There are so many other variables to why we’ve haven’t won a competition since he became the top dog. Spin it the right way round and we’ve remained in the conversation for many years because of him. Without an elite half, yet with those same other variables, we regularly miss the finals and probably challenge for the spoon.

Imagine Jamie Humphreys at 7 against the Dogs in last year’s semi final?! DCE scored a brilliant individual try and rolled the dice on the 5th tackle for Koula’s try. He kicked us out of trouble all afternoon. We are not going to get anything close to the quality he can bring in the next two years, yet some of us are excited at that prospect?! Bizarre.
This is all true, however the result remains the same, no premiership. Unfortunately he is not Nathan Cleary and he is 37. He can't get the job done and to your point, one of those variables was that it probably because due to his contract we haven't been a balanced side for 11 years.

Yeah Foz real estate shopping in the hills district in the off season but swears he hadn't "signed" anything but he did have a handshake deal with BA....this set the dominoes to fall when the season started.....and Choc and his mates blamed DCE because he didn't "party" with them
No DCE upset the older players by agitating for an upgrade immediately rather than earning the right. That put him off with everyone especially the older guys like Kite, King, Gifty etc that were on poor money but gave everything. DCE turned up into a gun side at their prime and immediately ruined the cap. Thats why they disliked him.
