The crackdown & milking penalties

@Mark from Brisbane .. I think we need to differentiate between the goals and guidelines of the NRL .. and how the numbnut refs and bunker boofheads are interpreting and implementing them ... it's not the NRL that are inconsistent or just plain stupid ...

On the issue of milking penalties ... once again coaches would be at the forefront of dickheadedness ... if the coach said don't do it .. they wouldn't, but you can bet a brick to London most coaches are complicit in the acting classes ...
Hard evidence that Ricky Stuart has been complicit for years..

The other thing they need to clamp down on is trainers holding up play for an "injured" player when the rule is they have to leave the field.

Happened to us yesterday and the ref did nothing.

The one that annoyed the living you know what out of me was Frizell late in the game when he did his ankle. The Knights trainer deemed him well enough to play on while the Knights had the ball. But as soon as Manly got the ball back around 30-40 seconds later ... suddenly Frizell was that injured that they had to stop play to get him off, which just happened to allow Newcastle to get their replacement player on and in the line for when Cummins re-started play.

Fact is that they knew full well Frizell had to come off, but deliberately waited to ask Cummins to stop play only when the Knights were in defense.

Just noticed Fox sports have a story about Steve Mortimer diagnosed with dementia, believes its from hits he got playing league. Also this arvo on radio I heard Scott Sattler talking about his dad with the same condition, sounded pretty severe.
Of course lots of old people get dementia without playing league, both those players were convinced it is the reason though. The issue won't be going away any time soon.

Have any "victims" of these latest so-called Crusher tackles had to miss any matches due to a sore neck?

..... No. I thought not.

The Knights one on the weekend....(one of them....2nd half)

as soon as the whistle went he stopped grabbing his neck, stood up and put the 2 fingers up to indicate they should take the penalty kick.

It was just so obvious but the nrl are too busy with their heads in the trough rather than admit to what they are actually doing to the game.

I don't mind the crusher being illegal, but as with every new rule, cats design ways to take advantage of it and the nrl lag way behind or just introduce some other new rule to screw things up.

It's a very frustrating time to be a fan. I don't even bother trying to get other Canadians interested anymore.

Voss mentioned the 'gamesmanship' regarding that one as well. Though until it's called cheating, nothing will be done.

.... actually nothing will be done then either.

Ok, first of all I get the crackdown , ultimately once we have almost the entire forward pack from each team suspended they’ll start to change things.

And I understand the reason behind it , cracking down on head injuries.

HOWEVER

There’s been a dark side to this and that is the milking of penalties.

In just two weeks we’ve become like soccer, playing getting a live tap and then diving like they’ve been hit with a sledge hammer. Players feeling a player above them and then pushing up from the ground and then grabbing their necks.

And you now see players remonstrating with the referee’s almost constantly , hands in the air , appealing loudly for penalties / send offs.

Absolutely no doubt now games can be won with multiple send offs and it’s a massive advantage to the team with 13.

And of course the very subjective nature of these send offs , some get sent , some don’t , some should ( and don’t) and now we go back during a game and pull up something that happened two sets ago.

It’s a bloody **** fight.

I wonder if the NRL realise they’ve opened Pandora’s Box ???
Well said Mark and so very true mate

Interesting, a friend of mine was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s recently and was awaiting tests to ascertain which type (haven’t seen him since) he had. The GP said it was a non impact disease as he asked did his rugby union days contribute to the condition.

This is only a preliminary diagnosis and comments from a GP so
I hope the NRL are not putting another brain disease into the contact sport bucket.

I bet if the players " holding" the back of their necks were forced to have a mandatory 10 mins medical time out they would stop it quickly.
Then again, bs coaches would make it an opportunity to get a free interchange.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a number of players run onto the field this week holding their necks and the ones who don't given 10 minutes in the bin just before kickoff.

"Direct, forceful contact with the head or neck should result in at least a penalty and potentially a sin bin or potentially a send-off depending on the seriousness. That goes without saying, I think that's obvious," Annesley said,

"Indirect, forceful contact with the head or neck should at least result in a penalty, a report and a sin bin. And direct or indirect minimal contact should at least be penalised and placed on report.

Clear as.

My 90 year old mother has Dementia, she's convinced she got it playing halfback for Annandale, she's also convinced I'm her brother Louis, but then again she has Dementia.
(She didn't play for Annandale", she played breakaway for the Pirates)

I'd say the way to combat that would be to take away the free interchange part.

Oh yeah, coaches would love that wouldn't they..... 🙄

My dad suffered from dementia in his last few years. He thought Russians were invading the waters off Mermaid Beach near his nursing home. Thought I was on the run from the law with two pet dogs and checked for cops every time I visited. Constantly told the nursing staff that the place didn't run to military precision and thought mum was selling the house to run off with a troupe of boxers.
Kind of funny but heartbreaking at the same time.
He never played any contact sports but had a major stroke at 83.
Men in their early sixties etc getting dementia after years of playing footy certainly sounds like way too many head knocks.
Prevention needs to be considered but you can't have a fair contest with 13 on 11. Interesting times for the NRL
