Beaver was the prototype for today's wide running back rowers like Tyson Frizell. Big guys with the pace of a centre/winger. A case could be made that Bradley Clyde did it before him, but Clyde was more the prototype for front rowers playing lock. And both had very good ball skills.
But, as good as Beaver was when it came to scoring tries, he was also a top class defender. Scott Sattler's cover defending tackle from the 2003 GF always gets shown as a highlight. Beaver did that sort of thing almost every game.
I still say that the best 5 players (as opposed to just my favourites) ever to grace the maroon and white were Bozo, Beaver, Cliffy, Mal Reilly and Snake.
