The Bully files

A couple of things here. Jake got dropped from rep footy (lack of speed is my opinion). Brown was completely rag dolled by every opposition & became completely irrelevant towards the end of the season. Bullemor took a step forward and got selected for Australia A. Aloiai - when he plays (the rare times he's available from suspension or injury) - I won't comment on.

I get we all have favorites though. We've come 11th and 7th in the past 2 years and everyone is celebrating and calling top 4 (with the signings of Taukeiaho, MCK and Tevaga). We need something different. It's a known fact we get torn up through the middles.

Everything we do is slow. Play-the-balls, defensive lines, in the forwards, ruck speed etc.

BUT, if we want to keep doing the same as we always have (over the past 11 years), fair enough.
Gee this post looks dated after tonight's performance.

BROOKY BULLY

Ethan Bullemor isn’t the biggest name on Manly’s roster but he’s fast becoming one of the most popular players on the Peninsula.

The tough as nails forward has made a habit of bursting into the backfield and taking on a hapless opposition fullback and so it was again when ‘Bully’ backed up a Tom Trbojevic break and raced clear to score.

Bully is kinda what I was hoping Brenton Lawrence was going to be.

Though brenton didn't like passing when in the clear with 5 teammates as options all that much. lol

I remember that very well. I think I was a game up in Gosford he made that clean break. Didn’t even look to see who was beside him. Was an absolute shocker but funny to look back on

I see Bully is only signed for this year. Huge concern. Now a vital member of the team and a big improver. Surely they are working on something.
Don't think he's going anywhere. Apparently Bully wasn't far off being included by Billy in the Origin camp. If he can push to that level, that changes the contract game for Bullemor. Until then, he's just a bench forward contract wise. Leniu was on a tiny amount too at the Panthers, and I think last year at the Roosters.

Fun fact - against cows Bull, Paseka, Waddell, & Sipley did not pass the ball
Haumole and Sio made 2 passes each.
(Burbo also made 2 but not sure if that was while he was at centre?)

Jake passed 16 times and the dummy halves passed a total 120 times.

DCE try, nice offload from Tent.

I think Bully is on his way in being the second best front rower at the club, I only have Tent in front of him.

His running with the ball is outstanding, he hits that defensive line at pace, takes some energy out of the opposition defenders, I think he is in the 500-600K bracket at the moment.

Don't think he's quite there yet, that's sort of the money I suspect Hethrington would be getting now over at the Broncos as a starting lock. Paseka isn't even on $600k.

Looking at a few replays of last year's games, I think what goes unnoticed is that Bullemor still has some defensive deficiencies. He's not up there with Jake, Croker, Aloiai and Paseka in the middle, who when fit, often make one-on-one tackles to great reliability. Several times Bullemor was the one leaving the hole in the defensive line, leading to tries, which is disappointing as he has the mobility some other forwards don't possess.

Obviously sin-binning him against the Tigers was a complete farce, but I feel like he also added to the ruck infringement tally indirectly... As in, he would finish up the tackles, be warned, and Jake the repeat offender takes the punishment for the team the next time around. His leg speed disguised some times last year when his fitness was clearly lacking.

He cleans up his defence (which admittedly has come a long way), stays fit, consistently performs without being dropped to NSW cup like the past two years, and uses his size and speed to his advantage, which we are seeing more and more of lately, and he's in for a pay day. Signs look good out of the trials and this first round.
