The Big head conundrum.

I don’t have a problem with brashness or arrogance - call it what you like. But taunting the opposition after a mistake or a try is completely inane and I wish it was punished.

I could not help but think that the shaking hands try celebration mock video the Panthers posted to IG actually proved that they have their heads up their ar$es on this issue.

Sorry but bringing back punching is ridiculous.
Some sports in the US - pretty sure the NFL is one - have very strong penalties for bad sportsmanship.
Given how many people, especially kids, watch the game, that is a far better and easier way to deal with the issue. Yeah a punch really solves a lot of problems in society, not.
Last thing i want is for the NRL to become as robotic as the NFL...

...i love to see passion amongst the players and when i see someone acting the fool it just makes me sit there hoping they smash him for the rest of the game...

personally I think it is all much ado about nothing... just Dave Furner having a cry again like he did when someone imitated the Viking Clap that his fanbase stole from Iceland...

Fines aren’t a deterrent but suspensions may be. It is s a very serious matter when you man handle an opposition player out of play and off the field. It was stupid **** that made me cringe. Dumb dumb dumb! It warranted a suspension of at least 2 weeks.

Yeah but it was Tapine...

...hardly an innocent lamb - he is as big at niggling as anyone...

"We need more characters in the game"

*players are cheeky to opposition

"Oi stop being characters we cant be having that"

I've no issue with Crichton, no issue with the fine and the Raiders best respone would be to beat the Panthers in the GF and try and include Crichton in the celebrations

You only have to look a few years back as to the role models of these players where this sort of behaviour started.

Scam Smith got away with crap like that and he was safe as a bank as no one could touch him, 30 years ago he would have been dealt with in a big way.

When I see players today clapping opponents errors, getting in their faces when a try is scored it does leave me cold and the provocation only leads to more goading and players know they have to suck it up.

Penrith are on top of their game. 22 wins out of 23 so you can understand the winning habit they have makes them cocky and over the top. A few losses might bring them back to earth and the coach is the one to deal with this.

Yeah but it was hardly a Jai Arrow-James Tedesco or Justin Poore-Steve Price incident - both of which went unpunished... they are what I consider dog-acts....

...patting blokes on the head or mouthing off is just sticks-and-stones BS that you can square-up by lining them up next chance you get...

I agree - I was brought up to be a good sport so it runs me the wrong way to see players in opposition players faces celebrating when they've made a mistake.

Sure, celebrate your own players' successes & even clap your hands & give your teammates a rev up when forcing an error from your opposition, but this getting up in their faces, talking sh*t & patting them on the head or back is just poor sportsmanship in my opinion.

I agree it is bad sportsmanship, but i enjoy the ongoing battle between 2 blokes that it sometimes creates... would hate our sport to become the NFL where any sort of niggle is banned...

Sure, I like to see 2 opposing players having a good battle but that can be done with respect & not jumping up & down in someone's face, cheering & cavorting about, clapping hands, patting heads & generally being a smartarse IMO.

Fair enough... i have more of an issue with the face massages, chicken wings and other cowardly cheap shots than i do with the sh*t stirring but i get why some cant stand it...

Ideally you would still be able to smack a bloke in the mouth but it is what it is... i just dont want to see the sport become even more sterile than it already has...

Going through a season nearly undefeated is all well and good... but ultimately pointless if you manage to lose the Grand Final.

We did it in 1995 and Penrith did it last year. They should probably be reminded that they aren't the Premiers and haven't lifted the trophy for 18 years.

Agree. Some 100kg unit grabbing someone by the jersey and unloading on them because of a bit of niggle shows a complete lack of restraint and intellect. You want to fight take up a fight sport. Most of them who have done that though have shown they are pretty terrible fighters when they can't land a couple before their opponent realises what is happening.

agree that getting rid of the king-hit element would be ideal - both blokes have to be keen...

bring it back and put some rules around what is an acceptable barney - both players must raise their hands above their head to signal intent and fight is over as soon as one loses their feet... would sure stop the carping if a bloke was too scared to hold his hands up and back it up...

can't see it happening in the age of everything having to happen fast so that TV stations can keep their schedule though...

F*&^ I hate that rat faced boston goblin toad stink crayon eating tool, Marchand!

I'd rather give a nice speech about sCam than get $1000 from Marchand.

Sadly Rick Rypien (canucks player - third fight) killed himself in 2011.

Carry on.
Didnt mean to hit a nerve GE - just admiring the contest 🙂 ...

...suicide sucks...
