A weird series in many ways but if Australia can't somehow hang on for a draw here then with all the momentum England's way it coud end up an embarrassing series loss.
I always wondered whether by adding the much-hyped World test match it would mean by the end of the Ashes the Aussies could be flagging a bit.
Cummins seems to attract plenty of criticism but if he can get us over the line in this series it will be (another) feather in his cap.

Disappointing day two. Need early wickets tonight or a win (or even a draw) will be out of reach for the Aussies (unless the weather saves us).

Really shows how important Lyon is for our attack, and how fortunate we've been over the past few years that he's been injury free.

Agree. Biggest issue with me is we picked a long batting lineup and we still only got 317. We get 450 and it’s a different ball game. Weather could well be our only savior.

With the weather in mind, England will put the pedal to the metal, Bazball style. Could see a declaration at Lunchtime, it's been a good series to watch tho.

Yep that performance with the bat just wasn’t up to par. For so many of them to get starts and no one to go on to score a big one really was poor and probably lost us this game barring some kind of miracle.

They are lucky Shane Warne isn’t still around to air his thoughts on this test from Australia, leaving out a spinner and playing such negative cricket wouldn’t have been his go

Eng all out for 592.

I've either been witness to one of the worst Aust bowling innings I can remember or they thought: "Let's just keep Eng in, it doesn't matter if they score 1000, whilst they are batting, we're not losing wickets." Obv forgetting that Eng can declare at anytime.

Now Aust are already down one (khawaja) because obviously protecting your wicket is just something lame-wads do.
Ugh

Steve smith out for 17

what an absolute ****wit to try and hook the ball off Mark wood's pace when all we need to do is survive.

If the captain isn't telling players that we're happy with 1 run off 200 balls then he, like his stupid field placements can **** right off as well.

the level of stupidity shown by this team in this game is parra fan levels.

Head out for 1.

Aust determined to swing baseball style at anything short and get edges.

How in the hell can this team be so crap on the same pitch that eng scored so many, so fast.

Aust probably wont last the day.

I give up.

Aust are being total wankers.

Well I live about 20 miles away from Old Trafford and it's currently pissing down. It's a shame the game will probably fizzle out to a draw due to weather after 3 great games that could have gone either way up until the last ball. The series deserves to go to a decider

In a way it’s a shame. However, being an Aussie supporter I will take it. Poms win here there is no coming back for the 5th we would be gonski.

And the shoe was on the other foot 10 years ago, same venue. And to be fair, I probably complained about a lot of the things 10 years ago that Eng are complaining about now.

Joe root: why can't we bat until 10pm? lol

Happily the internet never forgets so some of the same people cheering from 10 years ago are now calling for change.

I have absolutely no problem celebrating the retaining of the ashes under these circumstances (but we're not there yet) and hopefully the rain washes away all the crap batting and fielding choices by aust and they win the last test!

Read another article from Bairstow saying how bad a look it is for the children regarding his stumping. lol How can he say that with a straight face when he tried the same thing? And why don't 'journo's' put that to him?

3.30pm and it's still raining.

go Aust! woohoo

"rain dance"

4pm and its still raining...
