‘Erratic’: Harsh reality Seibold must face as Manly powerbrokers weigh up contract extension

Sounds like someone spruiking for a contract, not a sound judgement of the real situation.

So our plan for future success is to recruit players from the last placed club of 3 years and recruit a failed and sacked coaching staff from the 2nd last club. Sounds about right for the Manly Way.
Even still

It might improve us

‘Erratic’: Harsh reality Seibold must face as Manly powerbrokers weigh up contract extension
We made the top 8 with a top 8 team and that was a minimum pass for Seibold but he could not get passed the Roosters on finals game two as our Seasons inconsistency was once again was evident in our 40 point capitulation Exit
This is the Critics summary of our Harsh reality of our finals Exit and not being able to go to the Next Level

The moral of this Critical summary is
Criticism may not be pleasant but it is necessary as it calls the attention of the Crux of the Cornering state of things

Sea Eagles coach Anthony Seibold called his side’s season an overall success after they were eliminated by the Roosters in week two of finals on Saturday night, but critics have dubbed their campaign as “erratic”.

Manly finished seventh on the ladder with 13 wins and a draw but they dropped four games where they held comfortable leads.
If they’d won those games the Sea Eagles would have finished third and earned a double chance in finals.

“There are games they drift in and out of, they start really well and then they fall off. Numerous examples, Canberra at home, cruise control and they lost that game. The Tigers, they were in absolute cruise control at 16-0 and somehow they lost. Same thing happened against the Parramatta Eels in Round 3.

Steve Roach said the Sea Eagles had been inconsistent throughout 2024 and bowing out against the Roosters was a fitting result.
“They were too patchy during the year, you can’t expect to come to semi-finals and all of a sudden teams click on,” Roach said.

James Hooper compared Manly to their coach’s personality
Seibold can take teams into the finals, he took South Sydney into a prelim. But things can get a little bit erratic and unravelled at times.

You know what's more erratic? The media's knee jerk reactions to things.

Last week, Fox reported that regardless of the result on the weekend, Seibs has earned his extension. Now we are getting articles suggesting powerbrokers need to weigh up our 'erratic season'.

Further, the Hynes bashing was relentless. He had a quiet game on the weekend, playing second fiddle to Trindall, and the next day these articles emerged suggesting that he'd 'silenced the critics'. There was even one inside scroop into how a chat with Nathan Cleary was behind his 'transformative' performance. Absolutely laughable.

Now, I am not sticking up for Seibs because I don't know the answer, but the media are clueless.

the fact is that we did have an erratic inconsistent season and this was evident in our knee jerk 40 point loss disappointing performance And we got what we deserved .....

Nothing erratic about this summation to our season

The moral of this story is ... quoting James Hooper never adds credibility to an opinion.
The moral of the story is to read the whole story

Critical Quotes from the story were also from James Graham and Steve Roach and James Hooper agreed with them and so did many others that witnessed how our Manly teams lacked credibility once again in our inability to execute consistently as they were exited by a 40 point thrashing in a non competitive disappointing display

For all the ones
That were not disappointed by our anti climatic finals exit
I say each to their own and have a good day
I am not going to go around in circles and keep stating my point of view any more
as by going around in circles I am starting to get dizzy
Good day my lovey feathered friends <3

"For all the ones"...??? Which ones? I haven't heard a single poster say they weren't disappointed.
And I haven't (and won't) read all the various media opinions about Manly's season, because I actually watched all the games!

It's clear we need better defence, for that to occur I think the squad needs tinkering. I look forward to seeing who gets added to the squad over the off-season.
But if you think Manly's shortcomings are on Seibold's personality, good on you.

It's the way we went out. We we absolutely pumped, thrashed.

If we got close to the Roosters and made them fight, the narrative would have been different. Like we did in 2021.

Not with standing the 4 match's where we lost afta big leads, the last 3 matches of the season were disappointing .

Had to beat the sharks ro get a home semi - got thrashed.

Struggled to beat the dogs - should have lost but they choked. Manly has a LOT better roster than the Dogs.

Thrashed by the Roosters.

Very happy to have made the semis, however our last 3 performances were disappointing to say the least.
Seibold has to own those loses, not dismiss them within his great successful season sell, which is for his contract extension.

t's the way we went out. We we absolutely pumped, thrashed.
Yep, terribly disappointing, because at different stages of the season it looked like we could go further. But the way we finished put that in perspective. Better than we were but not good enough.

(but personally I don't read much into coach's post-match comments, I don't think he was suggesting everything is hunky dory))

In my view we underachieved this season with the quality of the players we have. Our dummy half play was fluid and better in attack when Crokes was out injured and that should of said something to the coaching staff. You can't say his inclusion really improved our defence as we bled a lot of points in the last 7 games., Rd 23- 24, Round 24 - 10, Round 25 - 34, Round 26- 22, Round 27 - 40, Semi 1 22, Semi 2- 40. That is 192 in our last 7 games at an average of 27.43 points per game at the pointy end of the season. In fact we bled 102 points in our last 3 games! Very poor defence and whilst my point is not to blame Crokes his inclusion didn't improve our defence. But IMO our dummy half service was clunky, slow and at times sloppy and there was no threat to the defensive lines from dummy half. They dropped Sinclair after round 21 because we conceded 34 points against the Roosters he had one bad defensive game whereas his performances leading up to that game were very good and we looked sharp. When we played the Rooster with Crokes on Saturday we still conceded 40 points. Dummy half is our achilleas heal. We can't get go forward with poor service and our forwards have struggled as a result.

Garrick must return to the wing surely Seibold can't be blind. He has been given more than enough time to improve his defence and it is no better than it was at the beginning of the year. There is no shame in playing on the wing he should be glad he is in the team. He is a well paid winger as he is a good finisher and a good goal kicker (most of the time).

Our next big problem is our pack which is too slow and Seibold keeps playing players out of position. Jake is not a lock and Brown is not a prop. Brown is playing busted after playing as a under weight battering ram and our pack across the board looks slow. We need to spend money on another prop with Sipley falling out of favour and a speedy lock/backrower.

Otherwise it will be a similar story next year when we will be the best of the rest again.

I like Seibs. Unfortunately if I was assessing his performance this year, based on the facts alone it would be a Fail. The out wide defence never improved, the middles were seriously poor at times and always seemed to get dominated, some highly questionable selections particularly around hooker and finally, the inability to get Kolu out in the open. I would also be looking at the games during the season that we lost after commanding leads and the two semi final games where we literally got bashed up. Both games. So for mine it would be a definite fail.

The interesting question is who would you replace him with and when would you pull the trigger? .

It was an 'off game" and there may be any number of reasons for this.
I think we lost that game due to their players winning more momentum and cashing in on some "nice" calls....is there an excure = NO....fact is we lacked resilience when needed and many may blame the coach, but for these well paid professionals I put the onus on the players who are on the field making the plays.
But I personally reckon Seibold done well in 2024 and I'm not convinced there are better options out there for 2025 and would be trusting the process we are on the improvement.
The ship under Hasler was sinking and is now sailing once more and the side looks very competitive,
There are area's needed to improve but the dominant Penrith side took years to build from the ground up and are blessed with the best junior base in the NRL by a way.
Many structures have improved and I would include defence in this also, though the game on Saturday was not an example of this and needs big improvement moving forward....along with a legitimate dummy half and maybe a smokey like Navale to step up and have a breakout season.
There is a real chance of a decent addition joining also and though it seems a LONG way away....can see a competitive Manly in 2025....good enough to match the best, only time will tell.

Just too many unforced errors and ineffective tackling towards season 's end in particular , hardly the failure of any general coaching approach or methods .
Really have to work on trying to dominate the tackling and preventing so much 2 nd phase attack and how to get a bit more dexterity in some individual efforts can only come down to simply some better technique and application .
Just seems surprising that Bully has the most capacity in the bench press compared with all of the other big boppers.
Full credit to him and may not be a general strength issue but apart from Haumole , really does seem a problem with the pack in general getting on top of quality oppositions in defence .
Apart again from some flimsy one on one efforts at times and the above average missed tackle count in some significant games.
And the same old adage will always apply in that unless the defence can get into some type of good consistency and order , will continue to stay in the also runs category

Love your optimism Maxta. Look I don't think we are that far off for a more serious tilt at the 25 premiership. However there definitely need to be some changes. I think for example if we added an RCG to the pack that would be a significant change for mine. The other obvious changes are all internal to the team and the club so much easier to execute. As you say....time will tell.

I was never convinced by us at any point of the year to say that we were legitimate contenders so we can't be at all shocked by the way the season ended. It saved us from having 50 points put on us by Melbourne and evening up the 40 nil to a small degree so it was some solace.

Seibold tries his best to put lipstick on the truth and good luck to him he's after another contract. We all know the truth, we are a handy team, very hard to beat at Brookie but flaky away from home and well short of the big boys at the end of a season.

Not saying Seibold is doing a terrible job....an adequate job is as glowing as I could be.
