The Anthony Seibold Grievances MEGA THREAD

We needed to win this in tge middle of the ruck and so far (touch wood) they are doing that...

I am not a Lodge fan but he has been huge... and Guac is playing his best game all year - looks full of energy and intent...

...and props to the coaches for the old fashioned wrap around play that got Saab his try... 👏👏👏
You wouldn’t think it was almost the same middles as last week, though Alioia has done well particularly with his efforts off the ball in pushing up in defence.

A dominant forward can change the whole mindset, suddenly the Clark Kent’s feel like SUPERMAN!!!

Judging Seibs on tonight's game

1. Having Koula on the bench ended up being a master stroke (albeit, accidentally)
2. Croker at dummy half for 80 was really poor, IMO. I’d prefer to see a developing Simpkin there plying a true dummy half trade… may be too late for that now.
3. Did he get the forwards up for tonight after last week’s debacle? I don’t know.

We flogged the best defensive team in the comp.

Do you think that was an accident?

TBH, I really don’t know. If so, why couldn’t he get our forwards up last week with so much to play for? I get the adversity of the officiating, but that was a really poor response.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m much happier having Seibs moving forward than Dinosaur Des on loop. I hope and trust Seibs will take us another major step forward next season.

I think the proof was in the result,

point 1: Great decision it turned out, I didn’t think it would wor.

Point 2: I am of the view Simpkins is the best nine in the squad also,

Point 3 : Definitely got the forwards up, the selection of Lodge was needed, most who have played the game know you need a dominant prop that takes no punches, the strategy was executed well, big middles rolling up the middle and the edges hitting inside lines was to much for that pack of forwards, the kicking was good in getting the ball out of play as much as possible, small forwards the Dogs want the ball in play as long as they can to weaken the opponents big men.

Lastly Seibold out coached the Dogs with that game plan..

While the jury is still out in this forum here are some observations.

1) Took Lehi to Vegas - knew how good he was - appears to have protected him to the point where he can't leave him out.
2) Signed Talau again some critics of that choice in this forum, can score a try and makes some good hit ups and strong hits in D. brought him straight back after his injury.
3) Starting Lodge and leaving Aloia on the bench, the first time he has not started in a game he has played for quite some time.
4) Having the courage to bench Burbo
5) Tough choice Koula or a hooker on the bench - with the number of HIAs and backs carrying injuries probably a good call, especially when he chose not to use Burbo,
6) Will give him the benefit of the doubt with Croker, probably feels the defense where it is needed is stronger.
7) We have beaten Storm, Penrith, Roosters, Bulldogs, Cowboys with the Sharks the only team above us we have yet to play.

Some positive signs and oh we are in the finals and a chance of an extra game at Brookie.

He has demonstrated that his is upgrade from Des. We have reached the finals this year which is a pass. We have one of the best teams from a capability perspective in the comp. IMO we just need more consistency in the middle. I say this as someone who was from the outset skeptical of his appointment. I am happy to be wrong in this case…

For me, the ONLY measure of success is Premierships.
I mean, yes and no. Absolutely we should always be aiming to win a premiership, but often putting yourself in a position to do that takes more than one season. You can't say every coach who doesn't win the premiership this year is a failure. It depends where you're starting from and what you've got to work with, and as long as you're going getting closer to a premiership and not further away, you're probably doing okay. I can't believe I'm about to say this, but success isn't always a straight line…

I'm still 50/50 on Seibold. We definitely needed a change from Des, but I wasn't sure Seibs was the best choice. There are parts of him I really like (he's good with the media and seems to be good with the players) and parts that rub me the wrong way (the "work-ons", the "free throw at the stumps", etc). But his recruitment decisions have been pretty good, his player selections have not been stagnant, and the team has shown improvement overall, as have individual players. I reckon he probably deserves an extension.

That said, it's beyond important that he and the team don't think they've done enough this season and can phone it in from here on in. The next couple of games are vital. There's a big difference between finishing fifth (or sixth) and seventh, as there is between winning an elimination final and losing one. We probably don't have enough to be genuine contenders this year, but we can put the fear into every team above us and set ourselves up for next year, or the year after that.

And I would consider that a qualified success.

You can say that a coach who has not won a premiership in their coaching career has failed to Performed to Premiership winning standards

We will agree to disagree and Happy Fathers day

We definitely needed a change from Des,
We definitely needed a change from Des Mark 2
Des Mark 2 has been way off his Benchmark Premiership Winning Best for years now
and his Trend with his underachieving Titans continues . Apart form a few inconsistent good games the Titans have been consistently ordinary
I like Des but he truth is the truth and every Great Sea eagle has its day

That makes for a lot of failures, BOZO. It also ignores coaches who have won a premiership, like Ricky Stuart did in his very first year (2002), and haven't done anything much since. Has he been entitled to bask in that glow for the last 22 years?

I'd put Des in the same "What Have You Done for Me Lately?" basket. He last won a premiership in 2011. The only trophies he's won since are the 2017 and 2021 Vidal Sassoon Best Hair in Rugby League (Mature Age Category) Awards.

If you insist your current coach must have won a premiership, no matter how far back that might have been, you are narrowing the field of suitable candidates considerably, without necessarily guaranteeing any success in the future.

When you think about players, there is always new talent in rugby league. There's no reason those players need to be coached by the same group of grumpy old men (Wayne, Bellyache, Robbo, Des, Ricky, Flanno, etc) until the old buggers finally decide to retire. Ivan Cleary, with his three-peat, has arguably achieved more than any of them, and up until 2021 he was just another coach who'd failed to perform to premiership-winning standards…

Ricky did win a premiership in his very first year and he he is entitled to bask in his historic Premiership winning Glory because at the time he preformed to premiership winning standards
So Credit where credit is due .
Since then he made grand finals and semi finals but has not reached his pinnacle premiership best
The same can be said with one time Premiership winning coaches like Madge Maguire
