Every Tuesday at 4.00pm Sydney time, NRL.com and each club will announce a 21-man squad consisting of 17 "Active" players named in position, with a maximum of four additional players named as "Reserves"

I interpret this as saying there will be normal 17 man teams named with 4 additional reserves

I think you might be disappointed , I doubt all four things will come about.

They'll choose Wright, Myles will start, Api will be Hooker and Brown will be utility.

In fact that's NONE of your points happening ........sorry!!

At best they " might" run Myles from the bench, but I'd suggest they'll give him a game to prove he's " reformed ".

Team list Tuesdays are now a thing of the past as the NRL have changed the scheduling of the team announcements.

Instead of naming the starting 17 on Tuesday evenings, the 16 NRL clubs will now announce a 21-man squad on the Tuesday, followed by a 19-man line-up that includes two reserves 24 hours before kick-off


To flesh it out for you, the starting teams will be announced on the following days:

• Wednesday 8.00pm AEDT announcement for teams playing at 8.00pm on Thursday

• Thursday 8.00pm AEDT announcement for teams playing at 8.00pm on Friday

• Friday 7.30pm AEDT announcement for teams playing at 7.30pm on Saturday

• Saturday 4.00pm AEDT announcement for teams playing at 4.00pm on Sunday

One hour before kick-off the 17-man side will be confirmed, omitting the final two reserves from the side.

My understanding is that the whole purpose of the changes is to stop teams suddenly including a player an hour before game time, and give those in the "know" the ability to place a bet before the odds change.

No player outside those announced can be brought in, however some provision was included to cover an important position, say a halfback injured during warm-up, but only if a satisfactory replacement wasn't already named in the 21.

That's probably how it will end up ... coaches already trying to work out how to manipulate it and Toddy trying to work out how he can help Parra.

But, the reality is, it is a hard hitting and powerful weapon against corrupt gamblers using inside information and will be the savour of rugby league.

Here is the get out clause, copied from the nrl site:

Clubs wanting to bring in a player from outside the 21-man squad or the 19-man squad after they have been announced must apply for an exemption which will be evaluated by the NRL's Head of Football on a case-by-case basis.

LOL.....it's a joke of a system. At least it spreads the love around the squad, all those fringe players can at least read their name in the papers/internet each week and feel like they are first grade regulars.

I imagine if that's the case they'll move Brown into the run on, bring up Cullen and one of the other young Forwards into the reserves.

I'm going to be the optimist and say both will fight and win and be available. I am looking for 4 things this week, which I don't think is much to ask.

1. Api to Blacktown & Cullen to Hooker
2. Brown to Timbuktu & Hastings to the Bench
3. Myles to hold Browns hand and Lussick to recover & return
4. The coach to cheat and pay a real coach to develop a game plan.
