Tallyn Da Silva

Yep. The last club that let Api go in order to retain a young "star" ended up regretting it. For years and years and years…
So did the guy who thought it would be a good idea to take a knife to a church meeting.
Now I'm not religious, but I've been to church more times than I care to remember, and for the life of me I've never seen a knife pulled out, so this must have been some congregation?.

📬 MAIL: TALLYN DA SILVA TO MANLY?

Sources close to the situation have suggested to me that Manly are on the verge of securing Tigers hooker Tallyn Da Silva, who is expected to make his final appearance for the club this Friday.

While Parramatta and Newcastle have remained in the hunt, there’s now strong mail pointing to a Sea Eagles switch, potentially mid-season.

⚠️ Nothing confirmed yet so take with a grain of salt, but talks are said to be advanced.
You know whats its like on here Budgie, unless everyone else ,agree,s then its not happening, thanks for that anyway mate

Controversial opinion here.

Api a bit overated IMO.

Good player, good hooker but I'd not have him in the top 5 hookers in the league now or at any time in his career.

If I was the Tigers I'd be keeping Api next year and sending him off to the Bears for 27 and telling Tallyn to stick strong one more year then the keys to the kingdom are his.

But....plot twist, I am not the Tigers

I don’t know, theyve won a few premierships since he left and Mitch Kenny has lived up to the hype
You know, I never thought of Mitch Kenny as a "young star", but you do have a point🙂

Wild that Api won a premiership at Souths and a couple of the Panthers, and yet when he was with us he was generally thought to be pretty mediocre. Maybe it does mean that the rest of the forward pack is more important…

Couldn't agree with that last part at all - he has been consistently in the games top 3 hookers for the last 5 or so years.

Maybe this year he is dropping back a touch with age.

Yeah perhaps 5 could be a bit harsh probably more not top 3, but if we are talking 5 years back you are transitioning from your Smith, Cook, Hodgsons being top tier before you get the likes of Grant, Robson and still Cook till recently sitting above.

I guess I'd never had him amongst the top pack, always a leader of the tier two hookers.

Brilliant in attack, brilliant at scheming and engaging the ruck but a little more modest in defence and service.

In 2025 for example, I'd take Grant, Brailey and Robson for sure. Watson and Egan....probably yes. Cook, Kenny, Mahony and Marshall King, more a discusion there.

All that said, with hindsight and Manase being an idiot should we have kept him, absolutely, would he be outlr best hooker.....by the length of the Flemington straight.

I appreciate its not completely in line with your original comments - but your post prompted me to think who would i have rather had than Api from 2019-2024...obviously you would take Harry Grant from around 2021 onwards.

Outside of Grant, i think that stretch from Api would be better than the others for the "combined" years mentioned.

But i do understand what you are saying - he was probably never the best hooker in the game at any one moment.

I think he was a top 2-3 hooker in the Penrith system but he’s tried to do too much at the Tigers (not that I blame him though). I think his defence is underrated; he’s one of the best middle defenders in the game and chops the big forwards down with ease. His service is quirky and subtle and clever but also a little bit erratic at times.

I think Brailey at the Sharks has the best service in the game. In fact, it could be the crispest pass I’ve ever seen; a true thing of beauty.

I just think Api's style didn't suite us because he was ok for us but fainu was clearly much better! The team completely changed when he came on hence us letting api go

Not only that, his dummy half running is superb, very good defender also, it's no wonder Sharks gave his brother the flick once Blayke started playing NSW cup

Think he may or would always prefer the open spaces just wide of the ruck but who knows down the track and when he hopefully has been entrenched as a definite keeper in the Manly i st grade
Yeah agree..the boy can play.. just think he still has a lot of growing to do and he will be a very big 6.. if he does stay a 6 I wouldn't discount his younger brother making our future spine as a 9 or 13.. he's stockier but already has a great footy brain and can tackle.. maybe we see this in 2027/28

1 Lehi (22/23)
6 O Large (20/21)
7 Walsh (20/21)
13 A Large (19/20)
9 Da Silva ( 22/23)

Also have Naval as a possible

That's a young talented spine that could take us all into the future.

Totally agree

Look the Tigers had zero options but to keep Api and release TDS
Benji would have lost the dressing room totally and possibly his job.
Api isnt just a senior player with influence and a decent player but he's club Co Captain it would have gone down like a lead balloon.
I think the Tigers want to keep TDS but realise they couldn't at the expense of letting Api go and basically going back to wooden
Spooners for another 2 or 3 season after finally trying to re build.
