Steve Matai played against the Wests Tigers on the same weekend he was allegedly involved in an incident at Collaroy's Surf Rock Hotel.
The incident is alleged to have occurred following an argument inside the premises.
A number of players and their partners were drinking at the hotel and were preparing to leave.
The alleged incident happened around 11.30pm on June 10 - the day after the Sea Eagles' last-minute win over Wests Tigers.
A report of the incident was not lodged with police until later in the month.
Manly CEO Grant Mayer last night confirmed Matai's involvement in the alleged incident.
``We have launched our own investigation two days after the incident and spoke to Steve and other witnesses as well as hotel staff,'' Mayer said.
``The players were not intoxicated and were on their way out of the hotel.
``We are just wondering why it took so long for the matter to be brought to the attention of police.
``It was almost three weeks before anything was reported.''
Northern Beaches investigations manager Insp Tim Pooley said the police investigation into the alleged incident involving Matai was continuing.
He said police had yet to interview several witnesses regarding the alleged incident.
Matai was not available for comment last night. :wall:
