State of Origin, 2025.

Hard to disagree with any of that, actually it’s fair to say the whole Blues squad probably needs a good overhaul.
One thing that stands out again is that for all his ability, Cleary struggles to dominate in Origin. Some players just don't stack up in every arena. Given Maguire stated last year he was picking on form only & got the result, I was surprised at some of Daley's selections. Despite their past experience, a few of them are not currently in their best form at their clubs (Mitchell, Robson etc).

Not sure if I am just getting older or something but I thought last night's game was a bit unengaging, just wasn't very exciting given it was a SOO decider. Blues played mostly horribly I thought and Queensland very clearly the better team. Kudos to Slater, he made big decisions and they worked.
Yeah, it had an air of inevitability about it.
As much as the commentators were talking up and willing a comeback, we didn't look anywhere near like it.
Our centres were meant to be the difference yet they hardly looked threatening at any stage against two rookies.
20 point deficits at h/t in the final two games is a sad indictment on the coach's ability to inspire his players not to mention his selections.

A great article and very damning of Daley.
Still wants the job and says we're building blah, blah, blah....just missed the key moments blah, blah, blah.

No fire from NSW is down to the coach.

One little difference between the teams' mindset and willingness to compete l noticed came in Game 1
- Harry Grant went on his own and put up a kick that resulted in a 7 tackle set, Munster was visibly pissed off and let Grant know it.

I saw none of that from the Blues throughout the series, no one seemed to hold their teammate to account.
Then the press conference Daley was, well like oh well we believe we're the better team but they were better on the night.

QLD centres rushed up in defence all night, killing any space we had.

I would have thought anyone who had even watched a game of footy, let alone one who has played for NSW, Australia, and now a SOO coach, might have thought the odd grubber in behind the QLD line might have been a good idea....to at least put a bit of doubt in the defence, but alas.

NSW yet again show they have no idea.

Bringing Daley back was the first mistake.

The bloke reeks of negative energy, passive and lacks ruthlessness as a coach.

Says a lot without saying anything

No wonder Seibs and him get on well.

I would have 6 blokes from last night to never play Origin ever again written into there file.

Stefano, Max King, Zac Lomax, Hudson Young, Jarome Luai, Latrell Mitchell.
+ Robson

People malign Jake’s form this year and they have a point. However the last week v Souths he was absolutely smashing them in defence.

The vibe around the nsw team last year was much better than this year. Maguire can coach a team for a 3 game series very well. Much better than Daley at that.

What we saw between 2024 and 2025 from nsw was chalk and cheese. They could have done with some focus, a game plan, and Jake tackling hard in the middle rallying the troops for the softening up periods. Having a popular leader that everyone respects and wants to follow makes a big difference.

The Penrith rote moves are so predictable now. And nsw kept churning them out.

I said in the game day thread he was absolutely brutal.

Some of the toughest defence i have seen in many a year.

Reminded me of Randall at times.

Gould, Johns and other Blues commentators need to shut the fu*k up. NSW has this habit of getting carried away, saying Qld can't win, we're unbeatable, blah blah blah and then we all know what happens. Save the gloating , big talk for after winning the series not before ya fu*king pot plants.
Sure enough happened again. Said that after Game 1. NSW will never learn they simply don't get Origin.

I would have thought that blokes who have won the last 4 grand finals may have thought it was a good idea to try

I heard Jason Demetriou saying he thought Stefano U wasn’t up to it yet, & would’ve liked to have seen Jake in for the same reasons you point out.

The same blokes who had perfected the most regimented system of NRL in living memory?

5 tackles and a bomb to the corner over, and over, and over again doesn't work in SOO.

This is the system they know. It's up to the coach to get them out of their little comfort zone

I think it started the week before against the Tigers. I noticed in that game how hard Jake was hitting in defence. It was clear he was sick of stuffing around and wanted to get the team winning again.
