Spoon

Cowboys and Knights will go past Manly sooner or later.

Presuming Manly lose tonight, after the end of this weekend that leaves the spoon battle as

Manly 17 (9 games left plus 1 bye)
Bulldogs 14 (9 games left plus 1 bye)
Dragons 12 (9 games left plus 1 bye)
Wests 12 (10 games left / no byes)

Sounds odd, but Manly's remaining games against these teams are really 4-points games. If you win not only do you get the 2 points, but it also means its 2 points the other club misses out on.

Dragons vs Manly at Wollongong Rd 22
Bulldogs vs Manly at Homebush Rd 26
Manly vs Wests at Brookie Rd 27 (final round)

This is how low things have sunk.

To go past Manly, Wests will need to win 4 more games than Manly do.

To go past Manly, Dragons will need to win 3 more games than Manly do.

To go past Manly, Bulldogs will need to win 2 more games than Manly do.

This time next year, things won't have changed and the same muppet posters will insist keeping the same team is more important than giving newbies a crack.

even with Tommy out, I think the spoon is unlikely. As bad as we’ve been (and Tom was part of a good deal of those games) we are one win out of the 8 and have the best f/a of all the teams not currently in the 8. Do I see us making the 8? Unlikely but who knows. Will we get the spoon?, even more unlikely than us making the 8 imo.

If we land RTS - (unlikely as well) we would be a decent show of making the 8 provided we stay healthy.

Cast you mind back to the off-season when Canterbury secured "the best young coach in the sport..."

Be wary about pumping up the tyres of coaches in the Penrith system. It's the players, stupid, that makes the coaches look good -- not the other way around. We learnt a painful lesson and Canterbury is now learning theirs.

Well that gutsy Manly victory and the implosion of Wests and Dogs puts to bed the spoon for another year since 1947.

9 rounds to go (bye + 8 games).
To go past Manly:
Wests will need to win 5 more games than Manly do.
Dragons will need to win 4 more games than Manly do.
Bulldogs will need to win 3 more games than Manly do.

Thanks mate. Also, love it.

Things would have to go downhill fast for us to get the spoon. Still a chance to squeal into the 8 if things improve but unlikely to make much impact if we do make the finals unfortunately.

Hope the club are trying to get The Chooks to release Paulo early (replacement for Turbo dollars). They aren't picking him in first grade.

Build to the future..

01. Reuben Garrick
02. Jason Saab
03. Tolu Koula
04. Brad Parker
05. Jaxson Paulo
06. Josh Schuster
07. DCE

(That's only Brooks / Turbo short of team 2024).

That or Andrew Webster was the one, not Ciraldo

To be fair the Dogs are slow learners, they had Boo Boo and now Ciraldo.

Actually has there been any coach from Penrith recemt history that went on to be successful ?
Hook nope
Barrett nope
Ciraldo presently nope
Even can put Gus in there hasn't been so successful since the riff.

Well Manly avoid the spoon yet again, but with 2 or 3 losses can still end the season behind the basket case Bulldogs.

Manly 25 - vs Warriors (away), Dogs (away), Wests (home)
Dogs 20 - vs Knights (away), Raiders (away), Manly (home), Titans (away)

Dogs win all 3 and Manly lose all 3, leaves Dogs on 26 and Manly on 25.
Did you see the Canterbury team today? On paper they have six very hyped and expensive recruits: Ado-Carr, Burton, Mahoney, Pangai, Kikau and Thompson, plus "the best young coach in the NRL"....
Gus has splashed the cash but it hasn't worked. I think there are more highly-paid recruits coming next year, including Crighton.
And they point the finger at Manly having Cap worries.
