I have been/am currently in Vietnam and promised my wife I wouldn't ruin (her words not mine) our holiday by trying to watch manly games even though I am missing the first three of the season. But it seems to me there is a whole heap of crap from posters so far having a dig at people and posters for not being a true enough or staunch enough manly supporter.

It's crap. Anyone who has an account with this site likes manly (apart from trolls and news ltd. researchers). The problem is when people start discussing players and take it personally. I for one can't stand the "he plays for us you are not a true fan if you bag him" approach of some of the supporters on this site. I applaud your commitment but despise your unwavering fanaticism. So I will put a few things out there myself.

1) Jason King is a good first grade prop.
If he had been selected for NSW back in the early-mid 2000's when the blues had an infatuation with all things St George he would be one if the games best. But I worry when he plays for us he will get over zealous and drop the ball trying to get up too quickly and or give away silly penalties in big games. I thought he tackled his heart out in the first 15 of the twenty eleven origin match and copped an undeserved bagging from the media. I hope he has a big year this year and gets a premiership ring.

2) David Williams suffers under pressure an I am never comfortable with his defensive reads. He is unique ambassador for our club but I would pick hiku or Blair or Guthersen ahead of him.

3) Brett Stewart is one of my favourite players but we can't go another year with him in and out of rehab. Four year deal was not a good idea. I wish him all the best injury wise this year he deserves it and is in my opinion the best fullback in the comp.

4) Jamie buhrer is a footballer not an athlete and we need to keep him even if it means Glen Stewart runs around with the raiders next year.

5) DCE needs to be kept and is despite what some here are implying remarkably un-cocky for a twenty-four year old who is the best seven in the game.

I bagged TRex mercilessly for being a heartless waste and people attacked me for that a few years ago. If you say something about a particular player it doesn't mean you are any less manly than anyone else. It means you have an opinion...and I think that's what this site is for.

So enough of all the manlier than thou 'where are all the (insert under performing player's name) baggers now' threads. Just have an opinion and enjoy the site.

And go manly!

YART

wait, wrong thread?

2) David Williams suffers under pressure an I am never comfortable with his defensive reads. He is unique ambassador for our club but I would pick hiku or Blair or Guthersen ahead of him.

Wolfie's first game back - took a critical bomb and ran 40 meters from the ensuing restart; then his intercept to break the relentless Rabbids attack, resulted in that penalty with Foz and the 2 points

He is the best finisher in the game and the other 3 options have yet to prove themselves in first grade on the wing.

I might be off but I am assuming that the above is reference to his performances in the GF and that SOO game

So your assumptions are not supported by tangible facts

It must be me; I can't share the same enthusiasm as many posters with Clint Gutherson. I've watched him a number of times in the Under 20s and in the first round NSW Cup and he is nowhere near ready for first grade. He looks like he has a good football brain, and is keen to get involved, but I've yet to see the 'spark' that a good first grade fullback has.
I hope I'm wrong as he is a local junior and It would be terrific if he rose through the ranks.
I am, however, very positive about Tom Turboject as our next fullback star. He is only 18, then again, Wombat and Snake both debuted at that age... Perhaps he needs to have a name of an animal to emulate these two.... Turtle, perhaps? Na, we know what happens to turtles when they are put on their back.

As I was saying I don't agree with David Williams ahead of hiku Blair or Guthersen. Not in grand finals and not in a club match. Jamie Lyon makes him look better than he is. Statistics can be used to prove anything ... Fourteen percent of people know that. Wolfy makes bad reads in defence an attack and I would have any of the above stated three ahead of him. This is not an opinion formed in grand final night last year.

and yes I am on the toilet

I quite like this. It should be said during a coin toss.
We shall go forth and win this match for we art manlier than thou.

Make a good banner? As long as we aren't alienating female supporters. Actually a woman in a manly jumper giving it to a muscle bound dogs supporter with the caption ... Manlier than thou. Might work

Okay just to be clear. Guthersen Blair and hiku may not be as good as wolfman right now but I would be happy to see them picked ahead of him. Love what he has done but how many times does he over run Lyon or get caught in defence?

I thought the question was what is wolfie like in high pressure games not his overall quality

For what it's worth I think he is the best option we have at the moment but might be under pressure when Jorge comes back (if Blair keeps performing)....and I do not think he should be cast aside that easily

Have I missed something?

Can you give references to where Silvertails has been like this recently because I can't recall it like that at all but I and possibly the other moderators may have missed where there has been a problem.

This is not meant to be having a go at you at all and I am only asking a few questions of you to get a better understanding of your grievances.

I would just like to ask you, are you sure that you have not just taken things the wrong way when others have stated a different opinion to yours or possibly read too much into responses by others and blown it all out of proportion?

We all know that we are entitled to have and will regularly hold different opinions of things and one person's opinion is not more right or wrong of another person's opinion and just because someone gives a differing opinion, it doesn't mean that they are bagging the other person.

Ah no ... It's not a problem or a greivance, thanks for the concern Jethro. I think I can take care of myself. But the kind of thing I posted about does go on here. It's not a big deal but the fact is some people are fans and loyalists others are fans and analysts.

Pffft a true supporter would've converted his wife into a Manly fan whilst at the same time getting her to agree on the importance of leaving you be whilst the game is on!

As for not watching the game due to holidays!!!! Sheesh *

*just kidding, hope you're having a great break and nice post! Go Manly! Go Wolfie!

No one is above criticism. We are all loyal supporters on here and some of us wear our hearts on our sleeves.

I reckon Manlier than Thou would make a great banner regardless of sex.

You obviously haven't seen too many of Guthersen's defence in games, even last week in NSW Cup he basically didn't even try to make a tackle. The Wolfman is one of the best wingers in the competition, sure as a winger there are areas he needs to keep practising on but he is a natural winger and has the speed to match, its up to Manly to help at times with positional play. But saying Gutherson to be picked ahead of the Wolfman is laughable.

Gutherson is unlikely to make the 1st grade as a regular and he is not a winger, you can't just throw a player into the wing spot, it is a highly Specialised Position and one of the most stressful positions on the field, speed, reading the game well, confident under the high ball, knowing your positional play in defence, good communication with team mates to slide and help in defence is only a some of the requirements.
