So HOW do we improve the game?

What brand of coffee do you drink?! I'm still struggling with the fact I have to get out of bed.

Im a stay home dad, havnt worked in 13 years. Getting out of bed is easy . I cant wait to get up and do cool stuff. Even housework and stuff isnt that bad.
But to not ignore your question, grated ginger, lemon juice and manuka honey as my first cuppa, followed by a nespresso about an hour later.
The mrs is overseas, my sons playing fortnight. Im sitting in front of the fire watching telly, reading and hassling friends.
Cant wait until i retire , got plenty of projects im putting off until then

One ref won't ever happen again Imo.. They spent so much time "speeding the game up" that unless Usain Bolt becomes a ref, it's just too hard to have 1 guy try keep up for 80mins and catch everything..

Bunker should stay, but be used entirely differently.. This bull$hit "ref has to make a try or no try ruling and bunker needs sufficent evidence to overule the call" is a complete farce.. The whole bloody reason it's going to the bunker is because the ref doesn't know.. If the ref thinks it's a try, he should be forced to blow his whistle and say try.. I can live with mistakes if that's how it happens... But the bunker should ONLY be used if the ref says "I didn't get a good look, Check it out and make a call"..

And forward passes.. Fmd, this "backwards out of the hands" $hit needs to end..

Imo, the rules say the ball must to backwards.. Not flat, not float forward if it comes backwards from the hands... But BACKWARDS..
They should be ruled in the same way as shoulder charges Imo, meaning ur allowed to make shoulder charges, but if u hit someone's head, ur gone for 8 weeks.. No ifs ands or buts about it, no "they fell into it", it's black and white.. Shoulder the head, ur gone...

Same for passing.. Pass it backwards.. If u wanna throw a "flat" ball then that's fine.. But if it goes forward.. It's forward.. "but it came backwards from my hands and floated forward" ... Tough $hit.. It's forward...

These are all really REALLY simple things that The nrl and the refs have just made so bloody complicated that they f@*k up the calls every single time..

Rant over.. Sorry

1. No video
2. One ref
3. Use the money saved by scraping the Bunker on training, and paying, the refs a very good wage. Make it a profession that more people would considering entering. Make the refs professional, like they have in tennis. Insist the refs hold media conferences after each performance. More transparency is needed. Players make mistakes and so will refs but the NRL rarely admits them. That is the wrong way to treat your employers, us, the paying fans. It is far easier to 'forgive' a ref who admits he made a mistake than forgive an incorrect decision by the Bunker which was introduced to be 100% accurate.

The single biggest change that we need is to return to the old days ....

Immediately remove the refs from any NRL control, and reinstate an autonomous and independent Referee's Association .... with it's own administration and overview ......

Give them the rule book ..... and let them do their job without consultation and directives from the marketing dept. ...... any brain fart or Intoddgrity rule changes must have a min 6 month trial and assessment period in reggies before being made official ...

Prefer the old rugby union concept that unless it's blatantly forward it's okay and play on - let playmakers be adventurous and throw flat passes. I love them - such skill.

There are too many rules. Where once RL was a simplified version of rugby union both codes have gone rule crazy.
Watch a suburban union match and it's enjoyable. A lot of ball movement and rules you can follow (most of the time).
However, watch a Test RU match and the whole tempo slows, penalties flow, players get sin-binned for the lamest of reasons, video refs take tries off teams for an offence that happened two minutes earlier. . . .
Our RL rulebook needs to be simplified and refs encouraged to let the game flow and allow the players decide the outcome, not penalties.

Saying ditch the technology is simply not going to happen ever.. I don't mind technology, it's the way these Muppet's are using it..

Go tell the v8 supercars to ditch the million dollar engines and the science teams they all use and go back to the 70s where they drove cars that the regular punter could walk in and buy from the local dealer... It Simply never going to happen.. It's not about going backwards, it's about teaching these idiots the right way to move forward

Schedule games according to demographics. If the crowds are healthy then it looks better on tv also. e.g. Every Manly home game should be at Brooky on a sunday arvo.

The problem is if you don't use the video technology then you have the situation where the broadcaster will show replays of every bad decision and the commentators, journalists, coaches and fans will harp on about it endlessly. You either have to accept human error and back the refs call - take the good with the bad, or use the technology to it's full capability.

I assume the technology exists to ball track accurately enough to determine forward passes - but the cost to set up the technology at every venue would be prohibitive - it's similar technology to the Hawkeye in tennis and DRS in cricket, combined with a chip in the ball.

One ref. Or at least get rid of the mics on the refs. I can live with bad decisions, just not when you hear one saying milking and the other ref says penalty.
