IF you thought Curtis Sironen was good for Manly last season, watch him go in 2018.
That’s the message from Sironen’s proud father, Paul, who says his son has “grown up” after moving out of the family home last year.
“Curtis moved out of home a few months ago, which was nice,” Sironen grinned.
“He and his girlfriend were going from one home to another, between her place and ours.
“But they just needed their own space, so they moved out and now Curtis’ life away from football is very settled.”
Flash back to the back end of 2016, and Curtis was far from comfortable.
Sironen senior admits his son was at a crossroads at the Wests Tigers prior to joining the Sea Eagles.
Injuries and limited game time resulted in frustration, and a departure from Tiger town.
Thankfully, Curtis found his feet and form at Manly last season with 16 games in the back-row.
According to his father, leaving the Tigers was a blessing in disguise.
“Curtis knew himself that he had to grow up and mature,” he said.
“He just wasn’t settled. I think getting released from the Tigers he realised that everything doesn’t come easy in life and you’ve got to work hard.
“He went over to Manly and did that. It’s just part of growing up.”
Curtis may have moved out from the family home, but he hasn’t forgotten the address according to Sironen senior.
“He still comes home to get some love from his mum with a feed from time to time,” he said.
“To be fair, that never changes. You could be out of home for six months or six years, you like to get a home cooked meal from your mother.”
As revealed in The Daily Telegraph last month, Curtis is set to be rewarded for his performances at Manly with a contract extension.
Sironen senior confirmed the deal would be revealed in the coming weeks.
“It’s all there, but I think the club and the parties concerned are just waiting for the salary cap stuff to be sorted out,” he said.
“Once that is done, it can get made public.
“From where he was a bit over 12 months ago, he has worked really hard, so he deserves it.”
