I'm sure they practice things that aren't coming off in games.

DCE plays well behind a dominant pack but is a headless chook when our forwards are being dominated. I think we are missing Schuster a lot, but primarily we need to start winning the ruck and stop dropping the ball.

A lot of the rot is also starting with Croker, the guy dead set looks like he is in slow motion and our whole attack suffers for it.
Crokes has come a long way but our middles are suffering from his lack of deception. He needs an experienced mentor to teach him some of the subtleties of top level hookers. He has the skills but doesn't know how, when or why to use them.

Crap couch who has no game plan except for after the fact that usually goes we have to be better in the first half (after we get pumped). We have some good players but sideboard gets nothing out of them. He has coached the spark & hope out of the side. Very disappointed in his tenure thus far.
Sideboard.:)

Looks like he spends time at the sideboard.

I'm pretty sure i read in the pre season that Manly were copying the Roosters and Teddy when it comes to getting Turbo the ball on the 4th tackle.

Maybe someone can add more than that if they can remember why.

That’s a very furniture-centric post 😂

“couch” & “sideboard”

I agree with your lines of questioning. Especially on point 2. We used to get Saab (and Koula to a lesser extent) way more early ball - even from our own half. Saab is the fastest guy in the comp - if not in the top three - so let's give the guy a chance to show the speed. He'll burn guys on the outside.
For these 2 to work there needs to be space created by the play on the inside. At the moment we have lost all shape and 90% of the time we end up with 50 defenders in front if us because nothing on the inside is working.
I'm not sure how the coaching team has ****ed this up. I used to love our sweeing block plays that released Turbo.
Yes Tom is underdone but I'm feeling he's not given the opportunity to make a break at the moment.
He'll we had better shape and attack under Tbaz and that's saying something.

You would expect that between Siebold and Flanagan they can see the issues and address the problems. It is concerning that we look so disorganised and slow in attack and defence. Dummy half is a major issue for us. Without crisp service and a speedy dummy half that can put defensive lines in two minds we are not going to get any go forward. Kicking early and going for a 40/20 which has come off only a couple of time all season is not much help. We just give the ball away and get gassed tackling for another set. We need a specialist dummy half with creativity, explosive speed off the mark and a good defender. Our current hooker only has one of those attributes. Parker is in the same category as Harper now unable to compete at the top level due to lacking speed and now missing tackles. We need Gordon in now, what on earth are they waiting for - Christmas? We need to blood a new centre partner for Koula now and not next year. We are stuck in the mud and being left behind.

I too am frustrated with some of these tactics - and I am by no means the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to the intricacies of the game (I leave that stuff to the poster formerly known as Technical Coach).

I was trying to figure out the whole 'Tom taking a hit up' on play 4 ...... and all I could resolve is - they have decdied (when not in attacing situations) that he can take the hit up, effectively ruling himself out of play 5 kick-chase - but leaving him in thebest position to act as cover defence in case the kick return breaks the line? Maybe it is to set up the defensive set? As I say - I am not the best at this stuff..... so could be miles off the mark

As for DCE's kicking.... I used to love the old adage 'make sure you find the grass' on a kick. I feel like the low, penetrating kick that trickles into the ingoal is gone from our game. I know it leads to risk re: a 7-play set.... but far out, surely its worth mixing it up?

Also - why can't anyone else be taught to kick? I know DCE is great (I love him) but come on. We need to build our kicking stocks!

It's a pretty specialised skill in NRL nowadays, one poor kick can put a team on the back foot. Croker does some good kicks sometimes but we've really suffered by having only one main half.
Schu's return is a big plus (that is, if he can stay on the field consistently - if he can't our season will continue to be quite frustrating)(to say the least!)

It works for me because i like playing 2 wide DCE......eeeewww

its True we have the only EDGE halfback in the game, playing laterally, maybe thats why that side struggles despite its talent

that was an old article and we have had 8 weeks since, turbo in the guts is noticeable but the ball movement between say turbs and dce has been more the other way around from my gut. it was early but there are some tweeks in our play that look hard to identify due to the footy lessons we are getting all over the place

3. Attempt to control the media narrative that he really is a good coach, knows what he's doing, and that success is not a straight line
I really, really hate that line. Success may not always be a straight line (it certainly can be), but it's also not losing three in a row and looking worse, not better, with each game.

I wouldn’t say we were worse v Sharks than we were v Titans and Broncos. We conceded fewer points and scored more.
Slow start is definitely a worry though.
