AS blonde moments go, this would be in my top 10. Watching Miss Teen South Carolina Lauren Caitlin Upton put on the spot and spectacularly pull herself out of the race with a totally incoherent answer to a tough question was great viewing.

Upton chose judge Aimee Teegarden, an actress from NBC’s Friday Night Lights, who asked her this question: “Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans can’t locate the United States on a world map. Why do you think this is?”

The 18-year-old South Carolina beauty replied:

I personally believe that US Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some people out there in our nation don’t have maps, and, uh, I believe that our education like such as in South Africa and, uh, the Iraq everywhere like, such as and I believe that they should, our education over here in the US should help the US, er, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future for our children.

She was trying to say that Americans are stupid.

I don't think she could have made her case any better.

There's something abiout the modern age where I despise the instant dessimination of every public (and not so public) stuff up that occurs to every corner of the globe.

Are you going to make it to 20000 public disseminations of information before the end of the season Matas?

Would have been gold if she added "world peace" in there as well.

Its a silly question really.

The answer is that Americans are ****ing stupid and don't realise there is a world outside their borders. The planet is still flat for most of these clowns.

But how far in the competition would she go if she had have said that?

Apparently, Goerge W had never ventured outside of the USA prior to being elected. what does that tell us.

Having dealt with many yanks in business over the years their lack of knowledge of all things outside USA is astonishing.

As opposed to Labor.

I always thought that we followed the UK system of government.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labour_Party_(UK)

Then why is it Labour in the UK and labor in Australia? Maybe the Australian politicians can't spell (or are illiterate).

The Labour Party grew out of the trade union movement and socialist political parties of the 19th century, and continues to describe itself as a party of democratic socialism.

The Labour Party traditionally was in favour of socialist policies such as public ownership of key industries, government intervention in the economy, redistribution of wealth, increased rights for workers and trade unions, and a belief in the welfare state and publically funded healthcare and education.

Since the mid-1980s, under the leadership of Neil Kinnock, John Smith and Tony Blair the party has moved away from its traditional socialist position towards what is often described as the "Third Way" adopting some Thatcherite and free market policies after losing in four consecutive general elections;

This has led many observers to describe the Labour Party as social democratic or even neo-liberal rather than democratic socialist. Blair himself has described New Labour's political position as a "Third Way".

It is Labour also in NZ http://www.labour.org.nz/

Tookey, King O'malley I think it was changed it to Labor in 1911 or 1912, was an early example of us being americanised in our language.

Do you really think in Govt that Labor and Libs are very different. Most people find it hard to differentiate at all. Howard has basically fnished what Hawke/Keating started. Apart from the ideological stuff and Back to the Future of Johnny Howard we may as well have one as the other. All liars, all self-serving but Libs give their free kicks to a different crowd.
