SELECTIONS are NOT the problem ..

Whoever is picked needs to tackle , that’s a good start
Agree. A lot of those tries we let in were so soft. There were times our middle forwards were matching them but we just gave up possession in attacking zone too often, then on the back could not stop their off loads and from there we back peddled in defence and arm grabbed and felk off tackles. The defence on the edges is a real concern. Foran, Jetski, parker and Garrick was some of the worst siding defence I have seen from Manly

Its like they are stuck in this terrible rot and cannot shake it. I don't mind losing a close contest to a top side, but we are giving up easy possession and then teams score way too easy. Need to somehow just grab a couple of wins to get some belief, but how do you do it with team so out of form and Dez not willing to give others a go. Guac, Shuster, Sipley have always played well when given a chance. I would even be pushing Birt for some game time, we look total crap in attack with no decent hooker
He needs to change the side and then if that doesn't work, he needs to go. These next few weeks are huge in the context of his career. Four more weeks of this rubbish and the curtain may well come down on a Manly legend.

Worth noting that Roosters only got two set restarts in the match. Set restarts aren't the problem here

I just dont understand what was different in 2019
Team in 2019 before injuries killed our season, even though we still almost snagged victory from Souths in semi with a tonne of injuries

It is a problem when the coaching staff continue to pick players out of position, that was the issue yesterday, Dylan was brave but all at sea at full back. Croker is not a good hooker he is more a five eighth.

The mistakes from the game yesterday and there were plenty of them came from our inability to deal with offensive kicks, out of position, back pedaling defence and lack aggression in defence. A real stand out was when Tupou from the Rorters came in off his wing and made a decisive tackle and our guy spilled the pill, decisive and aggressive defence, we had none of that!

It would be smarter to have Dylan at left centre, and Funa on the wing. Garrick should have got the hook after one error too many that led to a disallowed try for them.

When you have a group of young, overpaid boys that are worshipped and told how fantastic they are, thats when you get problems. I look at Penrith, look at the age, mentality and commitment. Is it a "Northern Beaches, I'm special" mentality, the Penrith pack look stronger, fitter and more determined. Every pack actually has that look. Not Manly. We look like we are going through the motions, and more interested in the social and financial rewards. Every single player needs to step up. Poor Garrick, yeah he had a shocker, but if his side were on their game, it wouldn't have fallen on just him. Like in Soccer, the goalie abuses hell out of the team if he lets one in. Why.... The ball should have been stopped before it got there.
I would put every one of them back to reserves to play park footy. People get sacked, laid of, fired, salary cuts for non performance every.
Not one player on the park was worth any more than minimum wage yesterday.

The club is a basket case, something is wrong, not just with the playing group. We are paying for a fullback, who in my opinion, will fall over again when he returns. We are paying for a number 9, he is good, but is he that good that we waste our cap money on him? Centres playing fullback, forwards not having a go, generally a p1ss poor start to 2021. Can they improve, Im not sure. We haven't really won a game since when? Since mid july we have what beaten the bulldogs

The whole problem is quite simple. The game got destroyed when salaries became ridiculous. Back in the day, the players played for a love and passion for the game. Now its just for money. The only passion they show is how they loom and how they can spend it.
No contract should be any more than two years. That way, they are always playing for contracts.

Just watched the Kayo mini without booze blurring the experience. Ffs if we actually held the ball and didn’t drop it on their line every bloody time this game wouldn’t have blown out. We were with them for the first 25 and when tupinua scored their second he and a bunch of their players were blowing big time. From here is when we just wilted. I can’t remember a game where we gave away so much ball attacking the oppositions line. Yuck

Possibly the most disappointing game I can remember watching in a long time, and mainly due to the things you have posted above.

Champion teams run on confidence - which we lack.
They play for each other ,which we don't.
Champion teams are lead by champion captains ,who control the game .
We are mentally weak .
I honestly believe now we should be dropping players and make them ALL fight for each and every position.
No more given's ,you now EARN your spot .Put all unperforming players on notice asap.
Another game like that and you are playing reggies...
Let guys like (Schuster,Cust,Burbo,Saab,Harper,Koula,Davey,Olakauatu,Sipley,Keppie,Boyle know that if and when they come up ,you play for your spot, you do your job and you keep your spot.

We can turn a lot of it around with a bit of line speed and intent in defence. If it means giving Jake a break or more middle forward on the bench do it - we need to get off our bloody line in the centre like the good teams do or we are going to be seeing big scores all season. If we are not fit enough than that is pathetic.

Yesterday's team selection was about Des saying, " this is the group of players that you have given me to win a Comp.!"

He has probably, willingly, acceded to "Owners Input" and "hangers-on around me" selections, to prove that he doesn't in any way have a team to be competitive.

He has now given them their week of justification and will (should) now start to build a team from scratch (read inexperienced rookies).

If this means that he drops Walker, Parker, Suli, Garrick, Sironen, Gosiewski and even Jake, so be it. They will have to force themselves back into the side with better performances and attitude.

By the end of the year, we will still be out of the finals, but will have the nucleus of a GF winner in 2022.

One thing we have done (The new CEO) is re-establish some good junior pathways which will take a little while to filter through to the main team.

I believe Des isn’t involved in contracts is that right? Whoever is might want to go and ask him for some input on who he needs to do the job.

Agree. Line speed non existent. Its why I didn't mind Walker at 5/8 as at least he moved up and never got run around. Yesterday, Foran just got burnt too easily and Parker and Garrick and Jetski first instinct is to slide and back peddle. They need to move up first. Defensively this needs to be fixed at training. They are coached poorly and not adept for the new rules and faster ball movement. We lack speed for a sliding defence. Teddy, Sonic, Munster, Cleary, Etc will continue to burn us

That is the one positive I see great juniors in the squad, but unlike Melbourne and Penrith they won't be given any opportunities
