News surrounding Latrell Mitchell's future in the NRL has taken another turn with Rabbitohs coach Wayne Bennett ruling out the Origin star from joining South Sydney.

The Rabbitohs re-signed State of Origin half Cody Walker until the end of 2022, while Gold Coast forward Jai Arrow has committed to the club as Sam Burgess' replacement.

South Sydney coach Wayne Bennett appears to have performed another Olympic-standard backflip and now wants to pursue Sydney Roosters star Latrell Mitchell, who is poised to employ a new player-manager.

How can they sign Mitchell for 400k. We tried to sign Glenn Stewart for that and the NRL wouldnt register it saying it was below market value.
The same way the Haynestain was allowed the sign with Parra for 500,000 when he still had a year to go on a million dollar contract with the coast. All rules are discretionary and the person making the decisions has no integrity.

Manly offers an aging and injury prone Gifty $300,000.

NRL knocks it back, says he's worth twice that.

The salary cap cheating Worms were allowed to sign Jarryd Hayne for half a million when his contract at the Tits was $1.2m.

And unlike Gifty who at that time hadn't played rep footy for what, 2-3 years, Hayne was still playing Origin after his NFL dream turned into a nightmare.

And from memory, didn't Souffs sign Gifty for less than $600k??

Anybody who didn’t see this coming has probably suffered too many concussions

This has become a total rort. The vermin get the verdict of retiring SB when its clear that its not a new injury and that has allowed them to pinch Arrow from the Titans and have a shot at Mitchell.

If Mitchell is allowed to join them for massive unders and then get a new contract later on it just further destroys the itegrity of the cap. There is no way this should be allowed for him to sign a contract for around 400K half his value is a slap in the face for clubs who need a player like him and are prepared to pay market value.

Another example of the unfairness that Greenturd presides over!

Toddles will use some spin to defend a low contract value like “he’s a marquee player we need to have in our game”.

Surely this is a joke.

NRL auditor has final say on Latrell value

Pamela Whaley aap 07/01/20

A list of earnings of every NRL player will help the game's salary cap auditor determine Latrell Mitchell's market value should he accept a cut-price contract from South Sydney.

It's understood NRL auditor Richard Gardham has final discretion to determine market value using a list of comparative players to reach his decision.

Already this summer Mitchell has been offered wildly different contract sums including more than $1 million per season from the Wests Tigers and a withdrawn contract from the Roosters worth $800,000 per year.

South Sydney's $400,000, one-year deal makes Gardham's determination even more important, given NRL's salary cap laws state a player cannot be registered on a contract worth considerably less than his market value.

However, the sum of the Souths deal could be boosted if the Roosters agree to pay part of his contract for this season.

Here's where they'll get around it. The rorters have already paid Shaquanda around $160K for 2 months. Vermin's $400K plus another 2 months $160K from the rorters makes it $720K. Close enough to $800 - $1Mill for Turdy's like. Then he'll get around $200K in under the table corruption from Clint and the Gladiator and everything's sweet in Nrl land.

Ok....

South Sydney coach Wayne Bennett revealed the Rabbitohs were out of the race for David Fifita, underlining the sentiment of Sydney-based clubs who have conceded defeat in the battle for the Origin star’s signature.
Souths and the Bulldogs were regarded as Brisbane’s primary threats but Bennett admits the signing of Jai Arrow and Latrell Mitchell has put the Broncos in the box seat to retain Fifita.

“We won’t be signing David Fifita, we can’t afford him,” Bennett said.

“We’ve signed Jai Arrow and Latrell Mitchell, so we’re happy with our roster.
“It’s not often a player leaves Brisbane. The lifestyle is a big factor, especially for a local kid like Dave.
“The trouble can be the Sydney kids who go up to Brisbane because they aren’t locals but with Fifita, he seems happy (at the Broncos), so we won’t be chasing him.”

Should this be in the fake news thread...Bennett is a habitual liar.

Sounds to me like Fifita to Souths is almost a done deal
