Sack Spoony Siebold

Who’s the guy that signed injury prone Turbo & a workman lock Jurbo that he knew would be going into his 30’s to 6 year extensions? Oh yeah that was Des. For a combine $2.2million per season let me add. What a terrible situation for a new coach to have, until those deals end no coach ever has a chance to make it their ‘own’ team.

You think Siebold wants to be signing these old guys to minimum wage deals West? I’m sure he would have preferred to go for AFB over TKO but that just hasn’t been possible

Yes he was. That was during the only time Josh was actually playing consistent first grade football in the back row. What don't you get about that? And Des didn't cancel the contract a few months later though did he. At a cost of 200k per year for the next crew seasons.
And theeeeeeennnnn? 2021 was his one good season. Not a very good judge, was Des?

I know it’s not my question to answer, but I’ll throw n answer anyway.

Possibly not, but they were his choice all the same, he could of rolled the dice and injected some young bulls, bring in some leg speed and agression, who knows things might have been swinging the other way. Seibs hasn’t played things well in the time his had and now looking forward, all my days, what an absolute sh1t show his facing, can he dig us out? I don’t think so.

Good point, but where are all of these young bulls you speak of?

Remember the 2 apparent young bulls we let go to Saints - Fifita & Tuitavake? Whatever happened to them? One left league I think & the other is still languishing in the lower grades.

We were after one from the Cowboys but they blocked his release, didn't they?

We got another supposed one from the Dogs (Patolo) didn't we? Not sure of his firm in reggies though.

Maybe there just aren't that many young bulls ready for first grade right now.

I'm hearing encouraging things about Navale, so maybe the plan is to blood him later this season once he's done a good stint in NSW cup. I think he also can't play for us until after round 10 or something?

Who are you the young bulls you wanted signed that were off contract? I agree it would have been nice but not sure there was many options. This off season there is a few good young props that we should move on

Mate, would you rather our depth be Kurt De Luis and Sean Keppie, or Siua Taukeiaho and Jazz Tevaga? These are the choices he's had. I know what I prefer.

He's responsible for the old man forward pack, but what is he supposed to do, release Jake? Sink the ship? We have had zero cap space for ages. I'd rather a pack full of old man Taukeiaho's over young plodders like Aitasi James (as an indicator of what you get for that same money).

"The coach is responsible for the Josh Schuster debacle."

This has to be ragebait. Yeah Schuster couldn't stop piling in food because Seibold told him to do it or something. Are you kidding me?

"The coach is responsible for Jamie Humphries being released."

Never was released. His contract expired, when he emerged into first grade, in a time frame they didn't expect, and in a position they didn't expect. Then, much like how POS at the Knights has favoured Brown for a long time, the (at the time) new Souths recruitment manager at the time threw the cash at Humphreys, which we could not match. DCE then tells them he's going two months after Humphreys has left the club.

"The coach has had two full seasons to shape the squad."

And 2/4 four years of a Trbojevic contract he didn't sign.

And 2/3 years of a DCE contract he didn't sign.

While nearly a third of the cap is tied up in decisions he had no say in, it's not his team.
In my opinion there is a lot of 'cop out' in much of that.

No coach gets a full team of his own unless he's prepared to take a spoon or 2 to clean out and rebuild. are you saying you would be happy for the proud sea eagles to clean the decks and get our first spoon for a coach with no proven record?

the only coach id allow to do that would be Bellamy and only if he was bringing a spine with him.

90% of NRL managers would sign Turbo in a heartbeat (even with his injury history). DCE is a top shelf HB that again most sides would take.

DCE asked for a release in pre season 2024 and there was NO offer from the club at the end of 2024. Seibold and Mestrov are either idiots or just completely oblivious to things going on around them. From the moment DCE requested the release Humphries should have been resigned and prepared. Souths shouldn't have had a chance to splash the cash.

I will go back to 2019. the much hated Des returns with a side and makes week 2 without Tommy. Elliott was full back, Parker and suli in the centers, waddell and go jet ski were the starting second rowers FFS.

can you honestly say that Turbo in for Elliott, Garrick and Koula for parker and Suli, the big shamole in the second row isn't a huge uptick in quality? we should be doing better and its not all DCE's fault contrary to popular opinion.

there is enough quality in our side over the past 2 years for Seibold to make his mark. I'm still waiting.

what we are missing are front rowers. Aloai was resigned by Seibold. Tapau was let go without a decent replacement, another 5050 call. Keppie while up and down had some mongral.

So it is his side because he took the job knowing what players were signed to when. he could have went to any number of other clubs ( well he couldn't because no other team wanted him) but he chose the turbo bros and DCE. live with it and get the best out of them.

Conspiracy theory-the club knew the Galvin situation was going to arise and chose not to continue on down the DCE path

Well, I’m not a talent scout and I’m certainly not across all the options, that’s the clubs job and they are supposed to be across that, you can’t tell me there not out there, 2 years ago when we were adding the Woods, Browns etc, players like Willison, Halasima Mooney and others were trying to break into grade, give them a shot and they’d come cheap, at the right moment.

I’d imagine Seibs is involved in the process, recruiting, maybe as a first grade coach and as the one responsible for building his squad, he should be across the up and coming options and or assisted by someone who is, someone capable of identifying the talent.

Seems like, we have become the pension boosting village for old forwards, it’s crazy, there discards, their never going to bring the energy and ability to build on, we seem to be so stuck in the past, where it may have worked for us when the game wasn’t played at the speed it is today. Players like Galuvao, Gillespie, Perry, etc, bought that, but even they would probably struggle with the pace of the game today, the games just different now and that won’t work anymore.

Seems, the Warriors have some good young bulls, the Roosters likewise, form what you read, Penrith have a massive Junior nursery, they can’t use them all, even if there next tier options, they’d probably offer move than the likes of Woods, Brown, TKO and Co.

I’m sure there out there, asking me to identify them is like me asking you guys to run the country, it’s not my job, but if as a footy fan, who’s played and watched the game for over 50 years, I can see where the games heading, what you need to compete and how the clubs recruitment is light years away from understanding what will work and what won’t, gee, I don’t really know what else to say, other than standing by what I previously said.
