The one question that the ASC mostly avoid is “ if you sack the coach then who’s the next coach “.

These are the ones thrown about

Ballin , moved his whole life up to Brisbane , remarried , new wife’s parents live here ( she’s pregnant ) , doing very nicely in the Broncos / Queensland system , highly ( very highly ) unlikely to want to move back to Sydney.

Des, god help us , if that were to happen I’d be ready to take a long term hiatus.

Gifty , zero coaching experience , not interested , just started a new business.

Snake , limited coaching experience , not interested , helping Gifty.

Watmough , currently involved in the juniors , may be an option in the future but doubt ready now.

Toovey , been there done that , Penn wouldn’t have him back so forget that option.

Most want the next coach to be a “ Manly man “ and fair enough but pray tell me WHO.

Others

Ennis , does he even want to be a coach , he has a lucrative FOX contract and gets paid for specialist coaching roles.

Hannay, might be a good option but more likely to go to a QLD side , Titans probably.

That’s about the limit of the ones I can think about , so sure , sack the current coach.

BUT

Who’s next up ???
Oh but you’re obviously satisfied with mediocrity 😂

I’m interested to know what these issues are you’re referring to in regards to the Penns
Not really any “ issues “ as such , other than they are owners unwilling to spend loads of extra dollars that are necessary today for success.

As I’ve said elsewhere just today

We spend the cap and hardly a cent more on players , a couple of small third party deal. Look at other rosters , you can see the disparity easily.

We spend only the NRL grant money on the coaching department ( 5 million). I wouldn’t know exactly so supposition but I bet Melbourne spends 3 times this!!

The Penn’s are now making a reasonable return on investment ( again supposition but I bet I’m close ) , memberships , ticket sales , merchandise , hospitality.

It’s us that crave success , all they want is the above AND they’d be getting it so why tip say 5 million more in to keep the fans happy ???

That’s the “ issues “ I mention

It would be nice to bring Ivan Cleary home, but there is about as much chance of that as there is of me winning Le Mans.....

He's been the coach in the last 5 Grand Finals and won 4 of them, for which he deserves credit... but his coaching record before that has been largely overlooked.

After his first 319 NRL games and 13 seasons as a coach, he had a 47% win record (lower than Seibold's career win rate at the moment), with 1 Grand Final to show for it. Which is not terrible, but also not great... I don't think anyone predicted the 5 seasons that followed.

Would he succeed at Manly? I would suggest he would not be a huge improvement, unless he is somehow given a blank cheque and brings half of the Penrith squad and a heap of their juniors with him. But that is extremely unlikely.

They either don't answer or come up with coaches that are unproven and Barrett level picks

You could bring in Bellamy, Bennett, Cleary, in fact any of them and it won't make a difference. Look at where our reserve and junior teams sit. Last or near to it in all grades including the women. The culture through the whole club is trashed. Who is coming through in NSW Cup screaming to be a 1st grader. None. We have a now aged roster with only Olakau'atu, Koula , Hopoate as real future stars. It will take years of rebuilding from the junior rosters up before this club will see any success no matter who is coach. Until that begins then get used to mediocre results and mid to lower table finishes.

Which we have already taken big positive steps towards, yeah?

Well done MWSE.

And do you think Scott Penn had the stomach for that ??

Or are we more likely to continue on , as we have , going okay , without the need to top up costs but just accepting that we are a middling team.

People can blame the coach until the cows come home but regardless of who is the coach not much will actually change, as the coach can only do so much.

Is Seibs in the sack Seibs camp? Didn’t he say we were in a premiership window?
Weirdly, I think Seibs might actually be in the "sack Seibs" camp.

Didn't he say he would gladly hand over to Manly legend Michael Ennis if he could stay in some sort of head of football role? If that's the case, does that mean he doesn't actually want to be a coach? Does he enjoy the job he has, or is he planning for the future?

But if he really does see himself as some sort of Phil Gould or Tim Sheens type, he might want to remember that they were both successful coaches before they moved up in the ranks.

Yep, for as long as we are shackled to this owner nothing will change. The rut that this club is currently in started when Penn got full ownership of the place. That's when rot set in and it will continue to rot away at this once great club for as long Penn is still in place.
