Not a seibold fan but to be fair, we went with them up to the 55th Minute. A couple of bad errors could have been avoided (like Saab's dropped ball for their first try) or the forward pass to Rubes.. They played almost perfect. We started very well and were in the game at HT. I think Tommy Talua needs to come in for Saab who is error prone
Saab has more faults in his game than strengths, and he's not a bad player. Tommy Talau brings a different energy and grit in contrast to Saab who is almost a 'glamour' player.

I imagine the internal team cliques and close teammates Saab has somewhat influence his selection however, I think Talau brings more effort and makes the players around him look better too.

Wish Seibold could find a balance in a game plan

I’ve been lamenting all season how we haven’t been going through the middle, and just played side to side attacking footy that was easy for the opposition to set a game plan for.

Doing everything with the ball before earning the right too

Yesterday I liked the start and intent in defence and going up the guts with the ball, but at no point did we actually play any footy with the ball. 5 straight runs and a kicks isn’t going to trouble the defence either.

Earning the right to have a go, and doing nothing
See I actually think the problems started when we went away from the game plan and shifted when there was no opportunity. The two occasions that spring to mind were Hoppa pushing a pass for Saab (yes, there was space but no one there to catch the ball) and again pushing a pass to Koula who was well marked. On both occasions we turned the ball over cheaply and gave up good field position. You cannot do this or you tackle yourself into fatigue; therein lies the reason for Burton’s line break and Kiraz’ subsequent try. A fresh defence does not have its lock picked so easily.

We blinked first and paid the price. Grind, grind, grind. Win the game in the last 10-15 minutes and be happy with 14-12.

Those pushed passes are all part of the Dogs plan in defence. They frustrate teams into errors through line speed and contact. You gotta bash the door in and get on top.

I voted no only because at this stage of the season it wouldn't achieve anything other than potentially derailing our season either further.

But IMO at seasons end, Seibold should be gone and the club should be searching for a new coach. As to who that will or should be.....TBH I have no idea because prospective first grade coaches who'd actually be any good seem to be as thin on the ground as our back row stocks.....

As long as we can all agree that person is not Des Hasler. Des 3.0 would be the death of me.
No, I don't think a third reiteration of Des would work for a variety of reasons. But Desmond 1.0 is the prototype coach who might get us back up to the pointy end of the table despite our present disadvantages. A coach who bleeds maroon and white having also tasted success as a player. I like Ballin with the right support. He is doing a coaching apprenticeship and is a renowned fitness freak and two time premiership winner the same as Des. I think he might be worth a crack.

If not an ex Manly player then I don't hate the idea of Michael Ennis getting a shot if he was serious about being a coach. He has a good footy brain and I respect anyone prepared to trade a cushy Fox seat for an NRL coaches hot seat. Ennis was an annoying grub as a player. He was a real competitor who hated losing and was prepared to overstep the mark to gain his side an advantage. I think he has the attributes to be a successful long term NRL coach.

The problem is that if Seibold is sacked before the end of the season, who is out there that can step in and at the very least....do no worse??

Demetriou?? Sure he's probably available, but he also did nothing with Souths in their post-2021 GF seasons so its questionable if he could do anything at Manly.

Ennis?? Please don't make me laugh, or cry, or both. Actually, laughing is OK, but Ennis getting the head coaching job at Manly would be a joke. THEN we'd officially be a basket case.

Brad Arthur is probably the most likely candidate and honestly, its not something I'd be enthused about. In his favour is that he's been here before (2013 as Toovey's assistant for those who like me struggle to remember him being here). In 10½ years at Parramatta he took them to a Grand Final, 4 Semi-Finals, and a wooden spoon in 2018 (the one that saved Manly from getting the spoon under Barrett who ironically replaced Arthur at Parramatta.....).

And if you want someone who has played for Manly, there is Matt Ballin, but I should remind of his failure as Blacktown coach in 2021 (16 games, 4 wins, 8 losses, 4 draws).

It would be nice to bring Ivan Cleary home, but there is about as much chance of that as there is of me winning Le Mans.....
