[Resurrected] SACK Des Hasler!!

Of we're moving Des on we can give him a Head of Football title or whatever Gus is called. I think he would be quite good at the role and it suits a former player & coach ... could be quite good for the club

Head of football is in charge of recruitment and retention.. the salary cap management .. pathways for the juniors.. and overseeing the coaching ..

What in the name of Bill Hamilton's left testicle makes anybody think Dessie has the slightest ability at any of those roles ...

Was it the way he left the salary cap in 2011 ... or how he left the doggies cap .. or how our current cap stands ??

Or was it his recruitment for Bulldogs that impresses ... or our current recruitment that you like ..

Or maybe how he promotes the younger players is the deal maker

And I'm sure he would get on just dandy with another first grade coach making decisions ...

I laugh, because it is so very true.🤣

Though the present salary cap situation, what ever that maybe is not entirely if anything to re Des
It was very public when he signed on, he wasn't to be the money man,no more contract negotiations for Diamond Dezzie Dazzler.

Anyway what you say is true, Des's way or the hwy 🤣

That’s been the plan for awhile now. We need Hasler there in a role like that. We cannot hand the keys to another potential Trent Barrett type, whilst the Penn’s are involved, and we cycle through CEOs at the rate of knots.

Seems plausible.

Adding an experienced coach that DES can work with. A New voice with different ideas.

Credit to Pay I seems to have done a great job in a pretty **** situation at the dogs. He had half the cattle and half the dollars TBaz had to work with.

Don't forget clubs have more than one assistant. And a Pay in won't mean Mona's isn't our next coach.

If anything might be the first step in putting the pieces around Monas.

We would be nuts to hand Des the keys and ignore what has happened in his career in recent years. Last year was purely as a result of Turbo's stellar form and when the other teams shut him down easily early this season the rest of the squad have offered very little. WE looked like an under 12's team without its star player.
If fact our approach to the game this year on and off the field has been dumb and dumber. Playing busted players out of position keeping talented youngsters waiting, not changing the game plan that clearly is outdated and inept and not managing your half back and captain to control his risky plays on the field.

I know we are a bit gun shy after the Barrett debacle but we need a fresh mind as at the moment we are like a guy with his feet stuck in concrete wearing a blindfold. And reading on here its okay he knows where he is going and what he is doing to me lacks logic. Every career has an end date and whilst Des has achieved great things its time for him to call it a day.

really can not hold Des responsible for the below par performances in many games this season . Poor completion rates have just seemed endemic this season , again hardly a coach's induced problem . Played some good and constructive footy against contenders such as Cows , Eels , Storm [ 2 nd time around ] Some late game fade outs as well but could not really attach blame to Des . Only tactics against the Dragons a bit dubious . Really has been a lamentable season , D C E and Turbo right off their games in the i st few season "s games , almost continuous disruptive injuries , jersey gate , again none of Des 's failings . Broncs game seemed to epitomize Manly "s season , terrible ball control and execution , Turbo broken down on the field , no luck with the bounce of the ball . Can it get much worse and even going into next season , sure hope not but again Des can only do so much to get the side up to a reasonable standard .

I don't know. It's extremely rare to see Penrith, or Melbourne, or the Roosters, or a Bennett coached team have poor completion rates. If it's not coaching, and I don't just mean an instruction to hold oto the ball, then what is it?
I do agree, though, that it's been endemic.

I would just add that the top sides also have consistent line speed in defence and that's what can put pressure on their opponents completion rate. When it happens to us, we tend to panic in attack. In the games we've played well, we've had good line speed. Then suddenly they're back to waiting and/or back peddling. I don't know who that falls on?? Is it our tackling approach allowing the opposition to get a roll on better than us? Is it lack of communication? Lack of fitness coz we've had consistent injuries? Lack of on field leadership? Whatever it is, it drives me nuts!

Not as if the side is not capable of it . Some games this season and even against the better sides , quite good but many other times , just game breaking in the negative sense . Just seems to come down in many instances to concentration , discipline and maybe lacking a reasonable confidence level . Plenty of experience in the Manly line up too so that should not be an issue for the ill discipline factor , Have some good handlers as well , Koula , Saab , Garrick Haumole Jake Davey ,. Shu has been a bit off , halves O K . No , seems mainly that discipline and concentration factor and just not respecting possession

Could be onto something there .

It might be me being a newbie forum "contributer" but I'm always trying to find the positives on how we will improve. It helps my little brain deal with the disapointment. I honestly think we have a squad to be competitive next year - IF we can stay relatively injury free. We could cetainly use a few tweaks in positions to take us to the top 8 level of play but the reality is, this will pretty much be our squad and we have to work on taking players like Koula, Bulle, Paseka, Keppie and Schu to the next level. Big off season from Dessie and team around him is required to get that happening.

One of the reasons is that opposition teams will target our middle corridor 3/4 hit ups in a row, getting the defenders there struggling to get back in line ... we on the other hand rarely have two hit ups by props in a row ... and as soon as walker comes on we go 2/3 wide every play, never hitting the same part of their defensive line twice, and causing absolutely NO stress to their defence ... It's a great idea in the war games room ... but it works like shiite on the football field.

Never been a fan of the walker sub to lock, and Jake to prop ... and whilst walker may seem to play very well, it always weakens our middle defence, and by going wide every play to a different defender it gives their forwards a defensive holiday which they use to smash us through the middle ..

Right. So to counter the forward onsluaght used against us, do we need the 3 in a tackle approach to slow that down - something other teams seem to get away with but when we try slowing things down with 2 tacklers, we seem to get pinged. Or am I misreading that with maroon and white shades?

And with the attack - is Dessie coaching that coz he thinks we have the backs to blow teams away? With Tom in the teeam we have a better chance of making that break but with Harper and Parker - not so much. It seems very optimistic of him.

Or am I misreading the whole thing? Lucky I'm not a coach!

Yeah, the 3 in a tackle is interesting ... I don't know where I stand on it ... but as you say ... it works well against us ..

I think Dessie got hoodwinked by the "new fastest more open" football of last year, and is trying to run around teams ... but from watching, the teams that are winning are still the teams with beast forwards owning the middle ... look at JHW and Lodge for Easts ... hardly the young fast mobile forwards with leg speed that we have been told is the new must have ... just grunt power .

And in our wisdom we play with one prop on the bench ..

Yeah, the 1 prop thing is weird! Surely that can't continue next year. It's not like we're short of them in the squad.

Haslers best teams have always been balanced in the playing roster. The way this team is structured with 3 high salaries has made life difficult for Hasler to bring in NRL quality 1st graders in key positions. If Manly continue on paying high salaries for 3 players we will continue to struggle.

can you name one club that doesn't have 3 or more players on high salaries ??
