S.O.O Game 3 - 2015 Brisbane

I know there were a couple of dubious penalties but the 2 stand out penalties weren't dubious and I refer to the one against Woods for getting in the way of the dummy half when Qld were struggling to get out o their own 20 when the score was still reasonably close and then when then Scott lifted Smith over horizontal and gifted them another try That is what cost

NRL.COM

1. Josh Dugan

Among the best in a blue jersey on the night. Showed bravery in collecting some awkward kicks under pressure and never gave up in attack. 8/10

2. Will Hopoate

Made seven runs for just 35 metres gained. Had couple of missed tackles and his knock on gave Queensland the ball for their first try. 5/10

3. Michael Jennings

Responsible for one of the few NSW highlights to come out of the game, when he scooped up a loose ball and ran 60 metres to score. Helped his forwards with some carries early in sets. 7.5/10
4. Josh Morris

Had plenty of work to do as Queensland targeted his edge of the field. Made some nice reads and 15 tackles with two misses. 5/10

5. Brett Morris

Not many opportunities to inject himself with ball in hand. 6.5/10

6. Mitchell Pearce

Had a forgettable night on the tackling front missing five of his 23, including a soft effort for the final try of the game scored by Aidan Guerra. 5/10

7. Trent Hodkinson

With almost no ball to work with he still went looking for work in defence. 6.5/10

8. Aaron Woods

Registered decent numbers as always, but gave away three penalties in the first half which hurt his side. 7/10
9. Michael Ennis

Didn't let anyone down with his efforts, showing plenty of energy in defence where he led the NSW tackle count with 50. 8/10

10. James Tamou

Couldn't match the intensity of Matt Scott and Nate Myles in the early exchanges. 6/10

11. Beau Scott

Fairly solid on his edge, but another guilty of poor discipline at times. 6.5/10

12. Ryan Hoffman

Left the field midway through the first half with a calf injury and didn't return. 3/10

13. Paul Gallen

Just kept showing up for the visitors in the middle of the park. The only NSW forward to run for over 100 metres, while he also had 41 tackles. 8.5/10
14. Trent Merrin

Limited impact off the bench. Was placed on report for a lifting tackle on Corey Parker late in first half. 6.5/10

15. Boyd Cordner

Provided good cover after Hoffman was forced from the field with injury. 6.5/10

16. David Klemmer

Failed to replicate the impact he delivered off the bench in Game II, but was still NSW's best interchange man. 7/10

17. Josh Jackson

Had a quiet night after coming on in the second half, but did little wrong. 6.5/10
you are kidding about Ennis right how many times he stood there looking at off loads whilst a qld player dived on the ball. It was the worst performance I think I have ever seen total waste

1. Greg Inglis

From his first kick return of the game sent Ryan Hoffman sprawling and ran back to the 30 metre line, Queensland earning a penalty on the back of his quick play-the-ball. Extraordinary display of skill to tap ball back and earn his side a drop-out and terrorised the Blues through the middle of the field. The GI we all know he can be on the game's biggest stage. 9/10

2. Darius Boyd

Professional performance from the cool take of a Mitchell Pearce bomb on his try-line in 25th minute where he managed to stay in the field of play to his finish on the left flank for his 16th Origin try. 7.5/10

3. Will Chambers

Looked dangerous without ever breaking through the Blues defence in his first game at centre until he scored the try that signalled Queensland's largest ever Origin score. Ran for 150 metres and revelled in the open spaces of the second half. 7.5/10

4. Justin Hodges

Inauspicious start to his final Origin with a dropped ball from his first carry but all class from that point on. Troubled the Blues with his prolific dummy-half runs and in his inimitably casual manner tapped the ball back into play for Gillett's try early in the second half. One last highlight for the show reel. Given an extra half a point for kicking the final conversion of the game. 8.5/10
5. Dane Gagai

Shaky start with a dropped bomb in the opening minutes but recovered well, scoring the game's first try and handling everything the Blues threw at him. 7/10

6: Johnathan Thurston

Excellent defensively early on faced with Beau Scott and Josh Dugan charging at him, 'JT' took complete command of the game on the back of the inspired work of his forwards. From the sideline conversion of the Gagai try that seemed so important to the crafting of three tries by his own hand and numerous others, it was the game's best rising to a rare occasion to further cement his greatness. 9.5/10

7. Cooper Cronk

It's no coincidence that Queensland put on the greatest point-scoring performance in their Origin history with Cronk back at the helm. Earned his side a much-needed penalty in 26th minute when under the pump deep inside own half and his expert kicking game continually sent the Blues back to their own try-line. His is the structure that allows his teammates to put on the style. 8.5/10

8. Matt Scott

The best forward on the field in the opening 15 minutes, Scott sent the message early that the Maroons forwards wouldn't be bullied a second time and his fellow big men rallied around him. Ran for more than 130 metres in powerful performance. 8.5/10
9. Cameron Smith

Under all sorts of personal pressure in the lead-up, engineered the most dominant performance in Origin history. Finding himself in the uncustomary position of taking a hit-up early in the game, fought with Blues defenders until he earned his team a penalty in front to level the scores. Continually probed around the middle of the field and dictated the pace of the game. 8.5/10

10. Nate Myles

A typically stoic performance from Myles in the middle of the field that will have won few plaudits outside the inner sanctum, 94 metres and 20 tackles. 7.5/10

11. Aidan Guerra

Regularly poked his head through running off Thurston on the left and provided the last pass for Morgan's try, further emphasising his value to this Queensland team. 8/10

12. Sam Thaiday

Yet another inspired display from a player supposedly past his best. Powerful charges on the right side, particularly close to the line worried the Blues and his desperation to dive on loose balls in the second half maintained the mountain of possession enjoyed by the Maroons. 8.5/10
13. Corey Parker

He may be just a few weeks older than Justin Hodges but there is no indication Parker's Origin days are drawing to a close. A workhorse in the middle of the field and dangerous in attack, Parker had 20 runs for 147 metres, made five tackle busts and four offloads as well as providing the pass for Gagai's try. Recovered quickly from a nasty lifting tackle by Merrin and Hodkinson six minutes from half-time. Named player of the series. 9/10

14. Michael Morgan
Instant impact when introduced early in the second half, first threatening to bust through on the left edge and then following through moments later to take the Maroons past 30. Backed it up with a try assist for Boyd's 16th Origin try. 7/10

15. Josh Papalii
Made an instant impact when introduced in the 24th minute with a promising first charge and then running a perfect line off Thurston shortly after to score his first Origin try. 7/10

16. Matt Gillett
On in the 31st minute and quickly picked up from the good work of the starting park with powerful charges. Johnny-on-the-spot for the Hodges tap-back in the opening minutes of the second half, his second try in as many games. 7/10

17. Jacob LillymanBy far and away the best game of his Origin career, possibly his life. Coming on after 25 minutes, Lillyman steamed onto the ball with every carry, almost going through the entire Blues team from the kick-off before half-time. He had racked up 72m in just 15 minutes and finished with 137m from 13 runs to dispel any notion that he is not an important part of this team. 8.5/10

Don't know why so many are upset with NSW's loss. I admit i used to be pissed when stewart bro's, whatmough (pre-speels), were on the team, but now? Team is dominated by doggies, roosters, and other guys i don't really care for. I don't like guys in QLD team either, so it was good watching them bash each other, and didn't care for result. Overall didn't affect manly, so didn't mind the spectacle - even if it was lobsided.

That is a good and interesting question. How would things have panned out if QLD copped a nasty run of dubious calls giving NSW the weight of possession and momentum for the first 30 mins of the game? There is always the question of the physical toll in such circumstances, but I tend to think QLD would probably have coped a lot better than we did. They have too much pride in the whole SOO concept.

I would have thought the first three decisions in the game were dubious to a Qld supporter. When you win by as much as Qld did, surely it can not be all the officials fault

Five key points from game 3:

(1) I expect the Cowboys to be Tahmo-less for the big game at Brookie in 2 weeks. Every little bit helps.
(2) I have a question - did Pearce play?.
(3) The difference was choc Watmough, according to choc Watmough.
(4) Dogko was lucky he became Drugko before kickoff because he ain't reprsentin' again.
(5) lol @ Wally.

You could tell that the couple of favourable calls to NSW in the early exchanges were enough to send the crowd mental and the ref's **** themselves & so they gifted QLD a glut of possession which they turned into 3 tries. From that point NSW realised the game was over and never recovered. Dont forget QLD were the former holders of the worst loss ever. And when the day comes and Thurston, Cronk, Smith, Slater, Myles, Thaiday and Parker all retire at once QLD are going to go through an almighty **** period. Just like we have after Johns and Fittler retired.

Nah not buying that

NSW Were blasted out of the game by the officials, the refs made site QLD won bit NSW was at fault for the score being as awful as it was

The refs should both be fired and investigated for corruption, I'm just glad origin is dead after QLD won 4 in a row and no manly players were involved in the poor attempt to continue a dead concept,I'm also glad the ashes were on during that Queensland appreciation game

I would have given Thurston a rating of 1 for doing stuff all and Myles a 10 for doing the hard work and winning the game for QLD.

Phil Gould
There is very little that needs to be said after such a flogging. No words good enough to describe the quality of the Queensland team. No words adequate to sympathise with the defeated.

I see the brainwashing is taking its toll on a lot of people here with replies like the blowout is a bad look for the sport and the refs gifted the game to the other side.

I'm a NSW fan but QLD took the game early and never let up, there were no b.s penalties to let the lesser team back into the fold which was absolutely brilliant to see and allowed for some amazing rugby league. Sure, unfortunate it was QLD and not NSW but amazing none the less.

Thurston, regardless of your opinion of him as a man is easily one of the best footballers to play the game. In regard to conversions he is a dead set freak. He had the chance to knock over ten from ten with the easiest kick of the nigh and handed it to Hodges only to be gifted a penalty in front on the buzzer and direct the to kick it seas.

NSW never wrapped the ball up in defence, were lazy at marker and around the ruck in general and just looked dejected the moment QLD scored their first try until the siren.
Just got back from the massacre and that is exactly as I saw it too Kue. They looked lethargic around the ruck, and at 22-2 I was expecting some dummy half scoots, second-phase play....nope...just keep hitting it up one out so we're nailed in our own 30! WTF Laurie?.
That was boys against men. Fkn embarrassing.

For the first time in my whole life....I stopped watching the decider before half time and just logged on the get the final score. Glad I did in a way.

I just couldn't take the stitch up that I was seeing. After game 2 I ranted against sutton and he's just done my head in.

It wasn't just the rubbish penalties that were being called...it was the no call of penalties that got qld out of trouble time and time again.

In the in goal? Nah qld just got the ball out so no drop out.

Shoulder charge leading to a try? Nah just the try thanks.

This was one of the most despicable performances since the grasshopper I have ever seen.

You can say nsw didn't turn up, embarrassing, men v boys etc....but you've got to be allowed to play the game.

What an absolute farce of an event.

Seventy thirty possession is unheard of.. Not as bad as the away team winning a penalty count at brookvale though

oops

Anyone know how under 20s went, i know they won, how were knight and demetriou

Nsw won....but it's bad for the young nsw teams to win as it doesn't adequately prepare them for the stitch ups they'll receive on the 'big stage!'
