Bummer about Shackleton, he would've been a handy pick up for the back end of the season, could've really fought through for a bench spot come finals time too on his current form. He'll be a walk up starter at the Panthers. At least he's used to that losing feeling at Parra.

Can someone please explain to me how so many players can be signed mid year by ANY NRL club. I get that Inu supposedly only cost $50 000 plus incentives. Add to that Perrett (both of them), The Tiger they signed earlier this year who got injured as well and now Drury Low. The only reason plkayers are moved on is to make space in the cap. If we assume the Dogs are paying min $50 000 per player then that equates to $250 000 extra this year alone.
The other clubs aren't just giving the Dog's players for free! So we are to believe that this year the Dog's started the season at least $250 000 under the cap. A rich club who signed Des for a truckload started the year considerably under the cap in assembling their squad? They keep sprouting on about all the players off contract NEXT year. I fail to see how that affects this years signing spree. If anyone can, please enlighten me.

Does anyone else think Shackleton's release from Parramatta to join the Panthers was in part motivated by the fact that it was anyone but Manly?
I only mention that because, as we all know, Shackleton wanted to join Manly only two months ago. So why wasn't it ok to release him then, but now it is ok? Maybe because that would have been at odds with Parra's strategy of trying to buy our juniors out from under us in a massive dummy-spitting (but ultimately futile) tit-for-tat strategy?

BOOM New Zealand Warriors prop Ligi Sao has signed a three-year deal with the Sea Eagles.
The Manurewa Marlins junior made the headlines recently after allegedly being bitten on the wrist by Cronulla Sharks Toyota Cup player Daniel Moroko.
Considered one of the hottest prospects in the NRL, Sao was part of the Warriors' under-20s grand final winning team last season and will join Geoff Toovey's top squad in 2013.
Manly recruitment manager David Warwick was elated to secure 20-year-old Sao.
"Ligi is one of the leading front rowers in the Toyota Cup," he said.
"He plays long minutes and he has great speed combined with great skill.
"He's very excited about the opportunity to play with the senior, world-class players here and he's determined to make a go of it.
"We're looking forward to watching him develop under Tooves (coach Geoff Toovey) and the team.
"We've identified some top young talent in Michael Chee Kam, Clinton Gutherson, Jake Trbojevic and now Ligi, so our future certainly looks bright."

PARRAMATTA'S raid on Manly's ranks continued last night, with Daniel Harrison becoming the second young Sea Eagles forward to defect west in the past fortnight.
The back-rower agreed to a two-year deal yesterday, just hours after the Eels granted out-of-favour prop Shane Shackleton an immediate release to Penrith.
Shackleton's switch wrapped up a dizzying week of player movement ahead of today's June 30 deadline.
Exiled in NSW Cup after a falling out with Parramatta coach Steve Kearney, the City Origin representative was only given permission to leave on Tuesday and managed to secure a short-term lifeline at Penrith in the nick of time.
The 29-year-old's departure marks the beginning of Parramatta's youthful roster overhaul, which will continue with the swansongs of veteran heroes Nathan Hindmarsh and Luke Burt in September.

Harrison and fellow Sea Eagle Darcy Lussick have been recruited to fill the breach next season, while impressive youngsters Ken Sio, Junior Paulo and Matt Ryan were locked up earlier this month.
The 24-year-old Gosford product's off-load proved an attraction for Kearney, who is now tasting success on the recruitment front after striking out with Beau Scott, Tony Williams, Wade Graham and Ryan Hinchcliffe.
Harrison has also managed 14 appearances from 15 games in the star-studded Sea Eagles pack this year. "It's impressive how far Daniel's come along this year," Kearney said.
"What's probably not as obvious is he's got plenty of ability with the ball in hand, particularly on the edges with his off-loading ability."
Harrison admitted it would be tough to leave the premiers at the end of this year.
"But they are building a great team out at Parra and I'm really excited to be part of it," he said.
Ironically, the Eels denied Shackleton a mid-season release to Manly in May. From there it appeared he'd play out the year with NSW Cup feeder side Wentworthville as punishment for labelling Kearney a "f&*^wit" on Facebook. But Parramatta's 11th-hour change of heart was just reward for Shackleton, who is currently leading the NSW Cup Player of the Year standings.
He's also earned selection for NSW Residents in Wednesday night's Origin III curtain-raiser and will report straight to Penrith after that match.
The deal is only until the end of this season, with Penrith's salary cap still restricted despite releasing Sandor Earl (Canberra) and Nafe Seluini (Roosters) this week.
Canterbury, however, have been the most active club on the mid-season transfer market.
