Like your your enthusiasm Niallcc but not your comparison. Lyon and Matai were virtual demigods back then. Koula and Garrick aren't in their league. Anyway, welcome aboard Niallcc.
Just the reminder of a decent centre pairing complementing each other Eagle1. As a child (70s) John Gibbs was my favourite player. I grew up in Wollongong but Steve Matai is probably my favourite player of that time. And so modest as well. Thanks for the welcome!

The scoreboard flatters. We got given a lesson. We just need to learn from and be better and hopefully we meet again.

In the first 20 mins our starting pack just couldn't compete. Saab and Reubs were still out there than, it was our forward pack, and our middle that just got completely owned.

On comes Brown and Bull and line speed increases 10 fold, mobility decreases the holes in the middle, and up went our Manly fight.

I'm just not sure our teams better with an AOA Nella & Toff atm. Two might have been injured playing that game and one short of a run. And if that's the case perhaps we just can't afford to play all 3 ATM.

The roosters defence showed us up all game. Apart from Brooks with a solo run, our attack had nothing.

I didn't see a plan b with our attack all game. That needs to change.

They completely took turbo out of the game. Or did we? He just didn't seem to get the ball in the same spots?

Croker, will come into the side by the sound.

Guac helps. Just because it frees up a more mobile forward to play else where in the pack.

I still think Navale, is the one who can add to the team with that speed, and exhuberence of youth off the bench. Especially if all 3 props aren't firing in the next few weeks.

But if we build a plan on dismantling that roosters team, we can dismantle some other teams in the next month.

But we need to add something different, because we were given a lesson all the same.

After seeing the replay this arvo, I think you and @47MVEagle have it covered. We struggled in the 1st 20 mins but we were carrying Josh A from his 1st tackle. The Roosters were fired up and were clearly on top and we had to whether that coz it happens with the top teams, particularly in front of a big home crowd. Just like us.

But the Roosters also got a good chunk of luck to help their dominant possession. We also got found out with Ben in the centres. I don't know when Robinson decided to replace Tupouniua but it was a good call coz what looked like an even fight with Ben, proved decisive with the extra pace.

We were certainly loose in the middle but hopefully Croker got through the Blacktown game and can come back in to share the 9 with Simpkin or Gordie (he was pretty good yesterday, I thought) and tighten the middle in defence. I'm not sure about the prop line up that you mentioned coz it's hard to know how injured they really are. Josh A is strapped like a mummy every game but hasn't been too bad until yesterday's injury. Toff was good at the start and then had the injury and suspension but does seem to be getting fit again. I thought Tent was ok yesterday but he needed some help. Brown was his usual and Bulle tried hard against some good defence. I do like what I've seen of Navale so far and he could certainly be an option off the bench at some point.

But the upshot for me is that we still hung in there despite the start. And no, intercepts are not the best indicator of good attack but not that long ago we would've been getting flogged after a start like that. I look forward to getting a near full team back for the Raiders game as that will be the start of the run home and is crucial to making the 8. I'm confident we can knock them over, we just need a fit and fired up pack to get us moving.

To me the noticeable improvement this season is that we never give up.

I've been waiting on that from our team for a long time.

We are also developing the "next man up" mentality nicely......more of that, please.

Sipley.....I always feel he plays better for us when he is not an automatic pick for the 17.

Brown needs to start.....in saying that though I'd be selective in which matches he does that for us, as I certainly like the impact he and Bully bring off the bench. I also think we need to be mindful of his workload over a season so it's managed properly for the finals (yep, I reckon we'll play a couple of games at the pointy end....but not the most important one.....this year).

We were very unlucky to not be playing against 12 for ten minutes....Jennings should have been binned for that hit.

That 22 point start though...that was the killer.

Sipley has been hampered by leg injuries and it looks like Aloiai now is again, too.
When fully fit they each offer plenty.
But I think we've often played them when not fully fit because our depth middles such as Condon and James are not considered up to it.
Our depth is better this year but needs to go up another notch next year.

I thought Sipley had his best game since doing his MCL yesterday, was better in defence and got over the advantage line on most of his carries.

I know this wasn't the be all and end all - but all week the media made a point of hammering home how the roosters have lost against every top 8 side. Day after day.... they could have done the same in the previous week, but they weren't playing...Manly.

So no wonder they were primed, but it was like all the usual anti manly media were determined to be the roosters' motivational coach in the lead up.

Screw 'em all!

If Haumole had played
If Jennings was sin binned
If Garrick & Saab had passed their hia's
If Faulolo's first try had've been awarded
Things might've been different....and nearly were against the odds.
The way we fought back was a vast improvement from previous years when we would've given up. The other pleasing aspect is our next man up mentality, which wasn't apparent in the past.
Have to say it was such a buzz being there on Saturday night for my first visit to the new stadium and with such a large contingent of Manly fans.
This week's bye is very timely and should do us the world of good. Then onwards and upwards I say.

Not sure why we are so concerned with bounce of the ball stuff.
Because the score ended close ?

We were hammered and all the rest is trying to find a reason not to accept that . Its semi final style footy that needs to be practised but Manly have never really bought into that theory and were found out again

Got a whiff of 21 about it really. tom and manly. He is just heavily marked and we are not making space for him in the front line

Forwards struggled with the pace and were unable to dominate in defence and slow it down

DCE didnt stick his head of his shell until the game had passed. He really struggled . Despite us racking up a scoreline and he supposedly going gangbusters he had very limited impact on the scoreboard with try assists.

Sure the intercepts are cool. Maybe his 3rd of the year. Finding ways to stay relevent while ignoring ways to stay rekevent

Yeah, the first 10mins for us was so out of character from our normal starts. Putting this down to us being cought of balance by the Chooks aggressive start and us not responding in the same way. Also, didn't help with Ailoia hobbling after the first 5min. The bye has come at precisely the right time, we get back Ola and maybe Croker and Lehi also Saab and Garrick will be available from their head knock protocols.

A great finals rendition for our men.

As long as that hammering makes us stronger, meaner and faster.

You learn more from your losses than U do Ur wins.
