That was probably the most comprehensive spanking I have seen in a long time. Yes some really good excuses for us but what really hurt in that 1st half was some piss poor tackling from some of our guys and some seriously embarrassing positional plays in defence. A couple of our players looked way out of their depth in top class company. Not the first time we have seen this from same guys. The only good news is that we get to fight another day and we hopefully get our full squad back on deck.

Indeed we do get another opportunity to fight and win the battle

The first 20 minutes was a poor start, Brooks recovered well and had a good game after his first kick was a 20m restart for the Rorters.

There were 3 players that were below par for me and they need to be better when they get another chance in Alioia, Ben T and Waddell.

You could say the attack was pedestrian in the way the tries came however the Rorters slowed the ruck down and were continually allowed to by Klown, I think it was far from a spanking and the team showed some good character to stay in the game after the Rorters got the bounce of the ball and the rub of the green go their way.

Their first three tries rattled us. Ben T zero speed and endurance got found out multiple times which led to tries/breaks. Simpkin and Waddell arm grabbing. The obligatory bad read by DCE/Garrick which let yet another try down our right side.

It didn’t help that Aloiai was injured after the first tackle and Paseka didn’t want to get his jumper dirty.

At full strength;
Second row has to be Lawton and Olakuatu.
Centres have to be Koula and Talau
Wingers have to be Saab and Garrick

Lawton, Bully and Jake were sensational in defence, no misses between them.

Felt a bit sorry for Ben, I think Suuali is the best centre in the game, if not he is certainly top 3.

Burbo forever banished from the centres. Worst defence since Morgan Harper. Tragically outclassed in this position.
For Chooks first try Burbo rushed up creating the gap, I'd say he did it because of the intimidation factor and threat of Sualii.
Seibold probably thought Burbo was a better hope of containing Sualii and Dom Young than novice Clayton would have been, I can't knock that decision as I think Clayton would probably have struggled there too.
Let's not forget Chooks players aren't millionaires for nothing, they are actually some of the biggest names in the game.

First 40 couldn’t get in the grind early with the Rorters having 75% of the ball for the first 15 minutes.

Some horrible individual missed tackles that led to tries, Alioia getting bumped off by Sam Walker was a horrible effort, Ben T got caught flat footed by Tedesco twice and DCE fell off Tupou.

Rorters got a try to Radley where Waddell was pushed off the ball by Radley, bad miss from the officials that one, bounce of the ball all the Rorters.

Rorters slowed the ruck down all game under Klown they got away with it, one of the worst referees in the game.

The attack lacked shape though wasn’t helped with the ruck speed being slow, tries came off a show and go, a barge over and three intercepts.

Alioia, Ben T and Waddell below par.

Good effort to stay in the game and go within 4 points without Saab and Garrick.
Aloiai below par? What game were you watching mate. He was on one leg most of the game & still gave it all!

That was a very ordinary effort from Alioia to get pushed off by Walker, the way he played was well below par and he may struggle to make the best 17 if Lodge returns well in reserve grade and Sipley built on his game tonight.
Aloiai was injured in the first play. Should have come off.

I think seibs might have considered playing ola in the second row if he'd been available 😉

With the benefit of hindsight, we would have been better off having Talau in that centre position with a speedy winger outside him - either Faulalo or even Jaxson Paulo, who was very good in his last NRL start for us against the Rabbits.

I'm generally not a fan of playing backrowers in the centres, especially against speedy opposition. It didn't work for Newcastle against us, and it didn't work for the Roosters against Melbourne.

Cliffy faulalo played well but he’s a bit lightweight and makes negative metres after contact. We already have Hoppa. He doesn’t seem to be manhandled as much in tackles.
I’d like to see vaega

Melbourne don’t roll out these $hit excuses. They build systems and believe in players to play their role. That’s the difference.

We get all happy about a near win on the back of 3 intercept passes from a nervous self-imploding Rorters team. Meanwhile, Storm go rolling on season after season after season….
To date, haven't seen Melb with a forward backline like we had last night. And i bet the Roosters are as happy as s... with those 2 fluky kicks and forward pass that they scored of. Always 2 sides to a story HK.

I wasnt all aloiai fault on that one. I see simpkin got hooked also not long after. Rubbish from both of them
I noticed Seidud dodged the question in the presser about what happened to Simpkin , why he didn't come back on. I'd say if Croker gets through today he'll come back in with Gordon at 14. He did much better when he came on yesterday.
