Former NRL boss David Gallop linked with rugby league return

Former NRL chief executive David Gallop has emerged as a potential candidate to join the ARLC as clubs work through potential candidates.
The Sunday Telegraph has learnt Gallop is one of the names being put forward by some clubs as they look to appoint a person on to the commission as part of a dramatic constitution change. Gallop and another former boss of the game, John Quayle, along with North Queensland chairman Laurence Lancini and influential South Sydney figure Nick Pappas are some of the people being tossed up.

Former NRL boss David Gallop could be back involved in the game.

Club powerbrokers are expected to spend the summer flexing their muscles in a bid to have a major say on who joins the commission ahead of the annual meeting in February.
Clubs bosses agreed in principle to the radical changes to the commission last month. The move will give clubs greater power to appoint and remove commissioners. It could also mean the axing of the mandatory three-year stand down rule for club officials that has kept some of the game’s best administrators from joining the commission.

The in-depth proposal is in the midst of being drafted but is expected to be passed. The other big change is restricting commissioners to just two terms — a maximum of six years.
Other elements of the proposal included clubs needing 75 per cent
Gallop, 54, has stepped down after seven years as the boss of the Football Federation Australia. Prior to that he had spent a decade as NRL chief executive before leaving in 2012. Interestingly, it was reported Gallop left the NRL after falling foul of the game’s commission, with his resignation just months after the independent commission had formed.
Gallop was less than four months into a new four-year deal. He was appointed a director at Tabcorp in October.

Despite the history Gallop has with Manly and the Brett Stewart saga, I would be intrigued by his return to the NRL.
No leading administrator has done a better job than Gallop managed despite now having more resources and structures in place to operate the game.
I'm not that opposed to his return like you'd expect from a Manly fan and I'm ready for practically everyone to disagree, however after bumping into him in America a couple of years ago I realised it's hard for us fans to comprehend what it's like to run a national sport and protect the games best interest. If he was was a member of the commission I don't believe he'd be the worst commissioner of the lot..
Maybe I'm just getting soft..
: )

Surely the pool of people with half a brain isn't that small that we have to go back to this goose. He proved the first time around that he was out of his depth.

Is there any chance we can get Quayle to replace that muppet Turdburger ?

"Influential South Sydney figure Nick Pappas". They got that right . Why not throw in the other Nick as well. The Sydney Sopranos.

In other news Big Mal thinks increasing game time by 10 minutes could prove a huge windfall for the NRL...
The ARL Commission will explore a radical proposal from Australia coach Mal Meninga to expand NRL matches to 90 minutes in a bid to generate millions of extra dollars in broadcast revenue for the code.
The Sunday Mail can reveal Meninga has floated the idea of extending the duration of premiership games by 10 minutes to beef-up advertising opportunities amid fears the NRL could lose money on its next broadcast deal.
Meninga tabled the idea at an NRL competition committee forum last month. The suggestion would represent one of the most seismic shifts in rugby league’s 111-year history, with premiership matches having lasted 80 minutes since the birth of the sport in Australia in 1908.

Meanwhile the ICC are introducing a new even more shortened version the game after the successful time line of 50 overs, T20, and even T10 formats.

Teams will have to face one ball each.

Just give GreenTurd the power to increase the video replays .... would add an additional 30 minutes to the coverage with no extra wear and tear on players .....

We could have an additional 6 refs on the field dropping flags each play .... and a medicab with a monitor run out to the main referee so he could watch the replay .... consult the other 8 officials and make the "correct" decision play by play ..... could add another hour or more ....

That's up there with Mal's decision to enter politics. Expect that it'll end the same way
